I'll reserve my judgement for when there is concrete news about exactly what form this DLC will take and how much its going to cost. If Nintendo were smart they would release it for free.
Considering they said it's basically a completely different game, storyline, main character, etc. I wouldn't mind coughing up some dough for it.

They sell NSMBU for 50 euro, they're not going to give away what's basically a sequel to it.
They done shared 3 screens on facebooke:

I hope that Luigi has his different physics with him (higher jump and worse traction)

I think that is overshooting the price, it is true that this is extremely large scale content, but Nintendo knows that they cannot release DLC for that much. I'd say $20 is the maximum price they can possibly get away with. But I think it will be $15.I really doubt the DLC will be free, it's an entirely new campaign of levels. I'd say anywhere between $20 and $40.

I never said they would. I just said it would be smart if they did. I suspect they will charge for it but what makes you so sure it won't be free. Do you have some magical way to look into the future.

I think they shouldn't give a quality expansion away for free.I never said they would. I just said it would be smart if they did. I suspect they will charge for it but what makes you so sure it won't be free. Do you have some magical way to look into the future.
I don't need a crystal balls to think that, as I'm not saying they will charge for it, nor how much, nor when, nor anything which could in any way be taken as concrete information.
It is an opinion, that a quality product which costs them money to produce, shouldn't be given away for free when it would likely gain them many coins by selling it.

I can understand where Gamejunkie is coming from, releasing it for free would result in more people buying NSMBU. But yeah, Nintendo did say it was gonna be a "large scale add-on" not just some new game modes.

Cd Projekt Red with The Witcher series disagrees with you and has had great success doing so (along with providing DRM free games).

You may not think that but not everyone thinks the same way. My point was if they were to give it away for free not only would it help the sales of the NSMB U game but it would also help towards incentivising the purchase of the Wii U. In other words it make Nintendo look a lot better in the eyes of gamers yet to invest in the system. It would also go some way to appease those who already own the system and game.
