Nintendo might have a better shot to up it's visuals with killer software design tools. It's sounds like most HD twins developers don't want to take the time to make their game engines run with the GPU instead of the CPU's like last generation. All Nintendo can do is has the best game design tools that anyone has ever had so the developers don't have to think or struggle to port a game over from the HD twins.

Maybe Nintendo is floating a trial balloon like it did the DS, third pillar and such. I would be tempted to buy something like the Amazon Fire TV combo, tablet, phone and streaming/gaming box. They should just rip-off the Amazon ecosystem and slap Nintendo on it and call it good. Both Amazon and Nintendo are chasing the causal market so copying what Amazon is doing in their space.

What I hope they do is go for a unified CPU/GPU based on ARM, breaking backward compatibility. Roughly a 4 to 8 core ARM processor and GPU comfiguration found in high-end phones we currently have today for the next DS. A 12-core ARM processor that runs at the highest clock-speeds and a custom GPU based on the phone stuff for the home console. If they think they have the resources to coble together a custom phone that works on the 2 American spectrums with DRM embedded so people can download and play Nintendo games on it. A Nintendo phone made by a third party, sure. See what works and sells then adjust their plans for the next generation. What I think makes sense for Nintendo is to follow what Amazon has done with their closed App store and New Fire TV line. Will Nintendo every do any of this? NO!

For me personally, I really only enjoy their portable systems. It has JRPG's and some sports games I enjoy, but I still buy Sony's stuff to have modern games or sports titles on the go. I think most people are like me but may like more western RPG's than I do. When you get to the console games they truly are missing the western style games, sport titles, which are king in the western world. I personally can't play 3rd person shooters, but most of world only plays these type of games. How can anyone justify having only having Nintendo system which lacks modern games and genres. So if the western studio's are going to shun you like a leper you either have to produce it like Sony (Better software house than Nintendo?) does or buy it like Microsoft does. Nintendo only makes money creating software for their hardware, so bulk up and produce the software people demand. They are stubborn or over-thinking it.
