#85072 Reggie interview comments on the power of wii U

Posted by 10k on 06 June 2012 - 03:03 PM in Wii U Hardware

Guys, remember Reggie is a marketing major. He can talk out of his ass to hype ppl up. He said the Zelda tech demo was 1080p (it was 720p), he said E3 was about the games and he gave us a casual fest, and he said at E3 08 that animoa crossing was good enough for the hardcore lol. Reggie doesn't know specs.

Retros game is saved for next year.

And what you're saying is that neither Pikmin 3, NSMBU,NintendoLand or any title on the show floor matched the letter lengths?

Those are the three games they were hinting at on Facebook. Nin is clinging to some false hope rumors lol.

I'm gonna cheat (well its one disc anyway) and say the Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii.

#84758 Nintendo should release the Wii U next year

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 08:04 PM in Wii U Hardware

The Activision CEO or something pretty much confirmed blops2 for wii u by answering Geoff with a "we're not announcing that yet-- we're not announcing something like that yet."
The EA Sports fellow specifically said on Spike: All EA Sports titles are coming to Wii U this year.

Nintendo were pretty stupid not to show or even mention this on stage, but they'll be there.

Also, Ubisoft's pres coyly said "We'll see" when Geoff asked him if Watch Dogs would be coming to Wii U.

It'd be a mistake for Nintendo to backtrack after general release dates have been public. Besides, it has a decent amount of games altogether. Even though the more core titles are lacking at launch, there seems to be at least one game for everyone before December ends, which is where most of the purchases will happen anyways. There's probably a lot of projects we haven't heard of yet launching soon after... I think the Wii U is fine. The conference sucked but the console will still do well.

I did not know that, but that was a problem with the conference in itself. Nintendo consoles have a reputation of being casual and void of any decent third party games. The conference would have been 10x better if they had announced third party games like the EA Sports titles and maybe have Activision come out for BLOps2. Change the perception of people that the Wii U is for the hardcore and it won't miss out on all the big AAA multiplats. OR just announce them or a sizzle reel. It's sad that people have to navigate beyond the conference to find info like that, considering the point of the conference is to announce upcoming games of interest lol.

#84740 What Games Do You Want That Are Either Launch or Launch Window Games?

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 07:29 PM in Wii U Games and Software

  • Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition (only if it has better visuals then the PS360 versions i.e. tesselation)
  • New Super Mario Bros. U (can't say no to 2D Mario Plus it reminds me of my favourite Mario game, Super Mario World for the SNES)
  • Pikmin 3 (a fan of the franchise, happy to hear it will support Wii Remote and Nunchuk but was interested to see how tablet would work in selecting Pikmin and moving them)
  • Assassin's Creed III (Depends on GamePad use. The visuals are a little better on Wii U as confirmed by Ubisoft "better water effects, AA and AF"
  • Alien's Colonial Marines (not really launch window but the GamePad is going to be put to full use on this game)
  • Darksiders II (Depends on GamePad usage)
You forgot Darksiders II!

#84734 Nintendo should release the Wii U next year

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 07:23 PM in Wii U Hardware

Exactly. What makes me upset even more is that Nintendo promised a best of the best launch lineup, and it isn't (at the time).
How can Nintendo screw up something so simple?

But then again plenty of things can happen in 6 months.

*Nintendo cancels Wii U and goes third party with 3DS as only console* :o
:P ;)

1.
2D Mario sells the system, and sells more copies during the Christmas period, meaning more systems.

2.
It's not launching too early.
It has games, it has games coming.
Nintendo focused on launch games, all of which (excluding the casual ones) are looking great.

To us Nintendo fans it has games, but what about the audience they are trying to win over? If it is launching in November then why are there no announcements of the big third party games that the PS360 gamers care about? Why is there no annual AAA games on there like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Splinter Cell, FIFA, NHL, Tiger Woods, Madden, etc?. Without those, the Wii U becomes another GameCube or Wii, a machine good for nintendo games only (which is fine for some of us, but not for the audience Nintendo wants, which is what the shareholders want too, which is the most important thing to Nintendo). I'm sure some people don't want to pay $250+ for a console that will only play 4 or 5 games a year from Nintendo and maybe 20 games lifetime. From a business perspective, the Wii U launch is awful.

#84722 Nintendo should release the Wii U next year

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 07:13 PM in Wii U Hardware

There are so many complaint threads all over the net it's not even funny. Seriously, I think we can all admit that it was a decent conference; we all just over-hyped it, a lot. Releasing it next year could turn out to be a horrible move. I think it'll still sell regardless of what we think of it at the moment.

No, the other two were decent. Sony won imo. They both showed some killer games. Sony paced it right, they showed some new features, networking, crossplay, God of War demoed on stage, PS-Allstars demoed on staged with two new character announcements, giving free PS Plus for a year for attendees, giving away Infamous 2 and other games for free for PS Plus users, showing Quantic Dreams next game Beyond (beautiful), and finally, showing the big daddy of them all, The Last of Us (which looks better than any Wii U game shown).

All I expected from Nintendo was some details on the OS, Pikmin 3, SMBU, announce two GamePad support, EA announcing some games, and a sizzle real of upcoming games like E3 2006 and maybe a teaser from Retro or Monolith. Nothing unrealistic is it? Considering the hot air Reggie and Iwata talked about bringing the core and announcing 23 games.

Lol I am over reacting, but I was seriously upset about the conference. Will I buy a Wii U? Yes. Will it be on launch day? Yes. Am I going to try to buy as many launch games as possible? Yes. It is just really disheartening to see Nintendo slip like this.

After getting a Wii day 1 and experiencing a huge software droughts twice, and buying a 3DS after two months, I was worried about the Wii U and it's potential lack of third party support, which would ultimately lead to software droughts. I realized today after looking at the Wii and 3DS games I have played and money spent that, If I had waited a year or two I would have bought games in bunches at cheaper prices and never have experienced gaming droughts. Hell I would have got the Wii for $199 and the 3DS for $170 instead of the $250 I paid for each. But the Wii U was different(Plus I love Nintendo and it's hard not to buy their products), it had that vibe that it would return Nintendo to the glory days of the SNES and the software droughts would never happen. I would get my multiplats and excellent Nintendo games, but this conference and roundtable has proven me wrong. Therefore I have decided not to purchase a Wii U until maybe 2013 or 2014 barring any major game announcements over the summer or at the TGS or fall conference. Sad day indeed :(

#84712 Nintendo should release the Wii U next year

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 06:52 PM in Wii U Hardware

To further my point of the crap this console launch is compared to the Wii and why the U should be delayed, I bring you a quote from NeoGaf:

Here's something fun to think about.

The Nintendo Wii launched in November 2006. By this time, the following games had been announced and shown as either in-game footage or a CGI teaser. All of these games were published and/or developed by Nintendo specifically.

- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (enhanced GCN port)
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
- Excite Truck
- Disaster: Day of Crisis
- Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
- Battalion Wars 2
- Donkey Kong Barrel Blast (initially for the GCN)
- Mario Strikers Charged
- Mario Party 8
- Super Paper Mario (initially for the GCN)
- WarioWare: Smooth Moves
- Wii Sports
- Wii Play

As it stands, the Wii U is expected to launch around November 2012, operating on a similar schedule to the Wii. The following is a list of Nintendo published and/or developed titles that have been shown or teased with video.

- Pikmin 3
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii U
- Nintendo Land
- Wii Fit U
- SiNG
- LEGO City: Undercover
- Project P-100
- Wii U Panorama View
- Game & Wario
- Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge (enhanced 360/PS3 port)

A nice comparison of line-ups, don't cha think?

#84704 Nintendo should release the Wii U next year

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 06:42 PM in Wii U Hardware

I think it was kind of obvious that the Wii U wasn't going to get PlayStation All Stars.

What I meant by that is it will be competing with Sony and Xbox exclusive AAA games while also getting the most popular AAA third party games in CoD and GTA V while the Wii U will have some current gen stuff to show for it.

And you miss the holiday season with a 2D Mario title?
Better off launching early, and getting the games later.

Answer to point #1) Nintendo is diluting the market by having two 2D marios released within the same quarter. 2D Mario sells throughout it's entire lifespan. They have NSMB 2 for 3DS to carry them and the 3DS into next year. If you release SMBU at the same time you are taking sales away from one or the other. 2D Mario could debut in fricken February 2013 and still outsell the competition. It won't matter when it's launched, as long as it debuts with the Wii U launch.

Answer to point #2)Yes, because those strategies worked SO WELL for the 3DS, Vita, and PS3.

#84700 Where can I watch the roundtable? And what time is it uk time

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 06:37 PM in Wii U Hardware

Roundtable summary condensed version:
  • NintendoLand talked about with all the minigames demoed and how it will work
  • Super Mario Bros. U talked about and shown how the gamepad can be used by a player to spawn blocks and platforms to help your partner out. Miiverse integration shown with SMBU.
  • Nintendo will develop a spoiler free feature for Miiverse
  • Security will be tight and looking out for offensive language and threatening messages
  • Gameplay experiences are important
  • Fine line is needed between performance and graphics (they won't go into detail about how powerful, more on par news to spawn on the internet for sure)
  • Want to create games for people who really love games, not differentiating between core and casual (yet they are making casual games that people who really love games don't enjoy playing, how ironic.)
No megatons, no retro reveal, no surprise reveal like Brawl at 06, Pikmin 3 in 08, or Skyward Sword in 09 at the roundtable. Nintendo just took a giant crap on it's fanbase but the casual carp will impress the stockholders which is what Nintendo truly cares about.

Give nintendo a break. It's not easy to make Zelda games.

Nintendo actually has more "core" franchises then casual, not just Zelda. Yet they managed to not announce any. Metroid, F-Zero, Smash Bros., Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Fire Emblem, Monolith's game, Retro's game, Eternal Darkness sequel, anything! But they somehow managed to show more casual carp lol.

Project P-100 is a new ip isn't it?

they said they would announce more then 1 and Miyamoto said new Nintendo characters will be born. BTW that game looks like some kiddy carp for kids. Jaggies everywhere.

Haha I secretly want the new Wii Fit too. >> << >>;;

What happened at the round table? I missed it.

They spend half on hour on NintendoLand. They moved on to how Miiverse will work with NSMBU.

http://live.theverge.com/e3-2012-nintendo-wii-u-developer-discussion/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

It started over an hour ago.

"There's sort of this attitude that Nintendo is targeting more casual consumers, but actually we're more interested in making games for people who really love games." Then why don't you show us games that gamers will love to play and move on from this casual crap!

#84680 Nintendo should release the Wii U next year

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 06:11 PM in Wii U Hardware

Yes, this sounds crazy, and yes, it may be an overreaction due to today's (un)events. But hear out my craziness.

April 2011, Project Cafe is rumored and leaked onto the internet as the Wii HD. Nintendo finally confirms it in May that they are working on the Wii's successor and it will be debuted at E3 2011.

Fast forward to E3 2011 and we get a Wii U protoype that seemed rushed (perhaps due to the leak of Project Cafe forcing Nintendo's hand) full of tech demo's and a weird tablet controller with circle pads. Some people (stupid ones mostly) thought it was just a new controller for the Wii while others thought it was a new gimmick. While some games were announced, nothing was shown (Super Smash Bros, Zelda, Mario).

After E3 2011 was over, all Nintendo revealed about the Wii U was that it would release sometime after April 2012, it was HD, it had a 6.2 touchscreen on a standard controller, it would play 25GB discs, and it would feature online and third party support (EA seemed to be excited).

After much hype over the summer until the holiday season, Iwata reveals that Nintendo will rereveal the Wii U in it's final form and focus on it's new features and games at E3 2012. Many assumed Nintendo would be better prepared this year and have some actual gameplay trailers ready.

Two days before E3 2012 we learn of Miiverse, we see the new redesigned GamePad, the Wii U controller pro is revealed, and Iwata says the E3 presentation will be all about games.

Fast forward to E3 2012 (today) and we got a regurgitation of the Nintendo Direct info, some casual garbage, some features we already know about, and two first party games that we already knew about (Pikmin 3, which looks like an upscaled Wii game, and NSMBU). Nintendo shows no gameplay trailers for any first party games, or hell, even Wii U tablet usage footage of the Aliens game or Darksiders II. So after a year of preparation, no unintentional leaks, Nintendo in complete control, and Nintendo still has nothing to show for the Wii U that interests hardcore gamers (the audience they vowed to win back with the Wii U).

Microsoft and Sony handed E3 on a silver platter for Nintendo thinking that they can't compete with a next-gen console reveal, and Nintendo blew it! Now, next E3, we will have a struggling Wii U showing trailers of games with current gen graphics trying to out due the big releases of the current gen that are not making it to the Wii U such as GTA V, Last of Us, God of War, PS All-Stars, and Halo 4 AND the inevitable reveal of the Playstation 4 and Xbox 720 that will come with launch trailers, future game releases (even if they are far off), a huge graphical leap, better online, and maybe even a better implementation of touch screen controls (Sony will go with multitouch for sure) while offering blu-ray playback and more.

Nintendo has set itself up for failure and just lost all momentum and buzz for the Wii U. So how do you fix this? Well since no compelling games are coming out with the Wii U launch anyways, just delay it another year. Maybe a summer 2013 launch. It gives you an extra year to develop better games that take advantage of the power of the Wii U, it allows you to build a better network and OS, and components become even cheaper, meaning a more powerful Wii U that will compete with the 720/PS4. It is also possible that in order to avoid the negative press the Wii U received this year and for being delayed, a renaming would do the console good. Nintendo has the 3DS to keep it afloat right now, and every Wii sold is profitable and the casual games still sell. What's another year anyway?

If you're not gonna go big in 2012-Q2 2013 for the Wii U with killer exclusives to build up an audience and sales, then why bother selling the console at a loss and facing a Dreamcast/Saturn like scenario? Just delay the thing and do it right!

EDIT: I also forgot to add this paragraph. The same third parties that seemed so excited about the Wii U were a no show at E3 2012 (EA not announcing any of their sports titles or coming on stage?). Nothing from Capcom, Square Enix (Dragon Quest X footage at least?), THQ (Darksiders II), Aliens (Gearbox), all no shows and all have playable game footage to show for the Wii U right now. Further proving my point that Nintendo is not ready to release the Wii U, and it doesn;t have any games right now. It will end up like the Vita, launch with 2 or 3 killer games and then collect dust until new games are unveiled at the next E3. Those new games will fail miserably at retail because of the abandonment of third parties and the launches of the PS4 and 720.

the gamecube did not fail in my eyes it was a good console with a good selection of games gamecube gave me my best gaming memories with 3 games eternal darkness metroid and rogue leader

the thing with wii u is its just another wii so far in my eyes

i thought the third party support would be amazing and at this stage its not ubisoft have given us ass creed 3 and zombiu but wat about far cry 3??

and the third party titles that are coming quite francly look like ports!!

so is this it?? im still praying they just punked us all with that conference with the real one still too be shown but its not gunna happen.

its a console with 6 year old tech and a touch screen.
i say this because they havnt showed me anything to think otherwise.

i think we xan say byebye to unreal engine 4.
mAybe even good 3rd party games.
ohh well what can you do i know wat im doin though waiting and waiting either till im proved wrong about the console or the real next gen platforms come out

There were some funny jokes today that the "U" in Wii U stood for "Ubisoft" since most of the good games announced were from them (of all the third party publishers, Ubisoft actually saved E3 and Nintendo for that matter, who knew?).

#84657 Why I'm still excited for Wii U

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 05:30 PM in Wii U Hardware

Like, ffs, when the great software drought of 08-holiday 09 happened at least nintendo rewarded us with NSMB Wii, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Super Mario Galaxy 2, NMH 2, Metroid Other M and Donkey Kong Country Returns in 2010.

2011 was a barren year for Wii except for Kirby and Skyward Sword and 2012 is only good in North America because of late ports of the Operation Rainfall games. So my theory was that all the development had gone into the Wii U and they would announce the schedule for 2012-2013 so I know the software drought had a reason and I wouldn't need to suffer long.

But they showed me nothing and just confirmed that my Wii was useless after Xmas 2010 (I have played 3 games on my Wii since Xmas 2010, Skyward Sword, Return to Dreamland, and Xenoblade. I plan on buying the Last Story). How many people do you know who survive off of 4 games a year from their consoles? This is ridiculous.

Nintendo better pray the roundtable reveals future games, or the Wii will be my last Nintendo console. Nintendo needs to realize that they can't sell a console just for Nintendo games. Not everyone can buy a PC or PS4 or Xbox 720 to get their complete gaming fix. It all has to be available for the Wii U and Nintendo has dropped the ball so far.

#84654 Why I'm still excited for Wii U

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 05:25 PM in Wii U Hardware

The GameCube was a sales failure but it won the hearts of many Nintendo fans over. It saw excellent entries in the Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Mario Kart, Starfox, Smash Bros, franchises. It saw the revival of Metroid in the criticially acclaimed Metroid Prime 1& 2. It saw a brand new IP in Pikmin and it's sequel. It got decent third party support for most of its life (it got all the FIFA's, NHL's, Maddens, Soul Calibur II, Sonic games, Resident Evil 4, etc). It was graphically capable with it's competitors and it had a normal controller with awesome triggers and comfort. No gimmicks. When it was revealed at E3 2001 they showed Pikmin, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race, Star Fox Adventures and Eternal Darkness.

Wii U showed us Pikmin 3 and NSMBU. No new IP's, nothing from their most talented studios (EAD Tokyo 1 of Super Mario Galaxy 1 fame, Retro, Monolith, etc.) It has no identity, it is a tablet but also a controller. Do they want the core or casuals? Because that conference was 95% casual with the first 10 minutes or so dedicated to us. There was no graphical showcase of a game, no teaser trailers, no gameplay trailers of core games, nothing! What have they done for 1 year? They have 3 first party studios that havent relesed a game in 2+ years (the 3 I mentioned above, EAD 1 actually hasn't made a new game since 2007). You're telling me none of those studios had even a 30 second trailer of alpha footage or a cgi trailer two years into development time?

#84628 Rumor: WiiU Dev-Kit specs leaked ?

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 04:46 PM in Wii U Hardware

Hehe, I had to quote you, i knew people are going to mix things as ideman and his poems weren't totally sure. Not your fault, from what i've read, I had no idea which memory they meant, from how it sounded, they meant RAM. But this is pretty hard to believe technologically.

So they were apparently talking about the 512MB RAM reserve, or they thought they were.

There is a separate non-ideaman rumor spec about a 512MB STORAGE reserve. Seems like you mixed these.

Now, looks like the STORAGE OS reserve is not taking away from the 8 GB Flash, but, we still don't have idea on the RAM side.

Better yet, there might be not 512MB RAM reserve at all if the neogaf ideamans totally took the previous rumors out of context and other majorit who has no idea, followed.

People don't have idea what they're talking about is the biggest source of false rumors and speculatino than the rumors them selves, perception, perception, perception.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WARNING: This specs are from the EARLY target specifications.

http://www.neogaf.co...8;postcount=149

This is pretty encouraging now, might make the UBISOFT rumor of 2 GB RAM and 4-core ... etc ... a bit more belivable.

This is based on the old dev kits as we know it was hinted that retail has 1.5 GB RAM, that's because of the 3GB devkits had, that was months ago, and even by then it was weeks or months old information, everything that we heard, points to that the final dev kit got a bigger specs bump, and that's exatly ties the UE4 rumors of "nintendo making sure UE4 runs" ... as silly as the title is as it's taken completey out of context, that means: SPECS BUMP , it does not only benefit UE4, it benefits obviously everything.

SUBJECTIVE OPINION: To me, this specs sheet looks like to have been constructed to PURPOSELLY hide the KEY specifications that would determine it's total performance. These are only the features of the hardware, and ladies and gentlemen, tesselation unit, compute shaders ... this is very good.

ok the batman trailer looked sick with the tablet use. If the game supports tesselation I will get the wii u version. If they skimp out on it then it's pc for me.

#84627 What are you buying on launch day?

Posted by 10k on 05 June 2012 - 04:43 PM in Wii U Hardware

Guys there is a rumor Nintendo will not have the black one at launch... If so I won't be getting it at launch. The black one is so sexy. Can't get that dull looking white one. Nintendo better offer both at launch I not its a fail.

http://wiiublog.com/oh-so-now-it-seems-like-the-black-version-of-the-wii-u-wont-be-available-at-launch/

Agreed. White shows dirt and stains from aging and handling. I clean my wii weekly but I'm starting to notice the glossy white it used to be is yellowing in some parts lol.

I want black, but anything dark is acceptable.

I always dont care much about first party support, because first party support is locked.. We will always have our good marios, metroids, zeldas, etc... I cared about 3rd party and we didnt see anything new...  We saw zombie yesterday from ubisoft, avengers, what else..

At least they could spend some time with the ALIEN game and its features. What about mmo rumors.. nothing.. diablo 3?  Diablo 3 is announced for ps3 though...

As Great as Nintendo's exclusives are they are not enough to satisfy gamers for 5-6 years. They are spread too far apart. Nintendo NEEDS AAA third party games.
