#275401 Bill O'Reilly says White House/Obama must tell Gangsta Rappers to knock i...

Posted by Zinix on 02 March 2014 - 03:31 PM in The Café

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly on Thursday advised Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett to get "gangsta rappers" like Jay Z and Kanye West to say their behavior is wrong if the White House really wants to improve minority communities.

President Barack Obama had invited O'Reilly to the launch of his new initiative called "My Brother's Keeper" earlier Thursday. The program aims to create opportunities and improve conditions for young minority men, but O'Reilly said he doesn't believe the White House sees the "urgency" of the situation in the streets.

"You have to attack the fundamental disease if you want to cure it," O'Reilly told Jarrett. "Now I submit to you that you're gonna have to get people like Jay Z, Kanye West, all these gangsta rappers to knock it off."

"They idolize these guys with the hats on backwards, and the terrible rap lyrics and the drug and all of that," he continued, adding that high-profile figures need to hammer young people with that message to "reverse the peer pressure."

O'Reilly also challenged First Lady Michelle Obama to come on "The Factor" and tell teenage girls "You stop having sex. You stop getting pregnant. This is wrong."

Jarrett said the first lady's mentorship program accomplishes more for young women than a single Fox News interview could, but she conceded that perhaps the outreach program could find some musicians that kids respect to come and speak to them.

"Look, either tell them they do it or you audit them. That's it," O'Reilly joked.

O'Reilly has inveighed against "gangsta" rap culture for over a decade. He called for a boycott of Pepsi back in 2002 that led to Ludacris being dropped from his endorsement deal and debated Jon Stewart in 2011 over the Obama administration's invitation to Common to participate in a poetry event.

Last summer, he used the Trayvon Martin case as a jumping off point in his syndicated column to suggest that rappers like Jay Z, West and Lil' Wayne do a public service ad for the federal government urging kids to reject drugs and violence in order to fight the "black crime problem."

#275400 Official Titanfall Thread- Game of the Spring- Multiplayer Game of the Forever..

Posted by Zinix on 02 March 2014 - 03:24 PM in General Gaming

TitanfallReveal.jpg

Platforms: Xbox One, PC, 360.

Release Date: March 11th 2014(North America)

March 13th 2014 (Europe,AU,NZ)

March 25th,2014 (North America, Europe 360)

Game Play:

Players fight either on foot as free-running "pilots" or inside agile mech-style walkers called "Titans" to complete team-based objectives[2][3] on a derelict and war-torn planet[4] as either the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) or the Militia.[5] The game is online multiplayer-only, but injects single-player elements such as plot, character chatter, and non-player characters into its matches.[6] Bit-tech reported the game to have 15 maps, 33 weapons, and splitscreen support for the online multiplayer, though the developer had previously denied the latter.[7] Respawn founder Vince Zampella described the game as bringing "scale, verticality, and story" to first-person shooter multiplayer gaming.[8]

Up to twelve human players[9] choose their pilot types and are dropped on the map, beginning the game.[10] A timer displays the time until a Titan can be deployed, which is reduced by killing other players.[10] Once deployed, Titans are protected by a forcefield for about 30 seconds, which protects the player-pilot as well.[10] Pilots are agile and accumulate momentum while running (similar to Tribes), which lets players run on walls and chain together double jumps.[8] There are multiple types of Titans, each with unique abilities and animations.[8] Pilot and Titan controls are identical except where the pilot's double jump becomes the Titan's dash,[8] as Titans cannot jump, crouch, or cover.[10] The mechs are not slow, but their movement is slower than the nimble pilots.[10] Titan game-balancing abilities include the vortex blocker, which stops and returns enemy ammunition in midair, and electrified smoke, which hurts and repels pilots climbing the Titan's back.[8] Pilot abilities include the Smart Pistol, which shoots around corners.[11] Player-pilots can eject from Titans that take too much damage, and the Titan replacement timer is reset upon the Titan's death.[10] Titans can also act autonomously when put in guard and follow modes, which directs the Titan either to protect their vicinity or to tail their pilot, respectively.[12] Games end with a race to the losing team's evacuation dropship.[10]

Respawn has unveiled three Titan classes: the agile Atlas, the ponderous Ogre, and the nimble Stryder.[13] The Attrition multiplayer mode pits hostage rescuers against defensive kidnappers.[11] The game's campaign multiplayer is separate from the game's "classic mode" multiplayer. It plays as multiplayer with single-player elements, such as scripted sequences and character dialogue. There are separate campaigns for the two teams.[14] The Militia are the civilian military of the Frontier and the resistance against IMC use of colony resources. Their most important members include Titan War veteran and former mutiny leader MacAllan, intel specialist and engineer Bish, and Marauder Corps leader Sarah.[15] The corporate conglomerate IMC specializes in natural resource extraction, and came to the resource-rich Frontier for business. Their major players are Frontier operations commander-in-chief Vice Admiral Graves, intel specialist Blisk, and artificial intelligence companion Spyglass (Wikipedia)

#275262 Digital Foundry: Thief for Xbox One edges out the PS4 version

Posted by Zinix on 01 March 2014 - 02:00 PM in General Gaming

In the spirit of openness among developers as of late, the studio has already declared in advance that the game is running at a full 1920x1080 on PS4, while the Microsoft next-gen release runs at 1600x900 - a state of affairs confirmed by our own pixel count. However, due to the use of high quality FXAA post-processing on both platforms, the dropped pixel tally isn't a major point of differentiation. Bird cages shimmer, while hair and fur shaders show up aliasing artefacts to a more notable degree on Xbox One in motion - but they are also an issue on PS4 and PC too. But for the rest of Garrett's clambering across The City, Thief's base image is neatly presented regardless of platform.

Sony's platform does run at a disadvantage in another regard though. Unlike the other versions, the PS4 uses trilinear filtering to treat floor and wall textures, creating a blur across far-away surfaces. It's a difference that sticks out when using the PC version's 16x anisotropic filtering, which itself is like-for-like with the clarity of the Xbox One release. Trilinear filtering is a cost-saving trick that suits games running at lower resolutions, where the tail-off in texture sharpness isn't so visible at a distance. For a game running at full 1080p though, Thief is doing itself a disservice here, and there's little to demonstrate why Sony's console can't compete with Microsoft's platform here.
Each version is guilty of genuine frame-rate drops too, especially when traversing main roads in The City. This manifests more aggressively on Microsoft's platform, where drops down to 20fps are possible, as compared to 25fps on PS4 - but in amongst the frame-pacing issues this is trivial. The stimulus seems to be interactions with multiple guards, and travelling at high speeds around the game world - neither of which are necessarily the core tenets of a stealth game. In either case, the PS4 version technically holds steadier at these particular stress points, but the end result still appears choppy.
In terms of PC-side performance, there's nothing to worry about where any gameplay is concerned. As expected for a game based on Unreal Engine 3, its scalability across a range of hardware is dependable, and hitting 1080p at 60fps with all settings maxed out proves no issue. Our test rig, equipped with an Intel i7-3770K clocked at 4.3GHz, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 780 Ti manages to hit this target easily enough - the only strain coming from the game's benchmark test, which drops us down to 50fps as we pass through heavily fortified city gates.
Verdict:

If you've just bought a next-gen console, this Thief reboot is likely not your best choice for showing off its strengths. Visually, the PS4 should be the front-runner given its 1080p presentation, but through the virtues of effective anti-aliasing, the 900p frame-buffer used on Xbox One holds its own in practice. However, the PS4's weaker texture filtering does factor into the comparison more visibly, with assets appearing blurrier than they should at a distance, and asset pop-in proving slightly more evident. Given that all other settings are a match between next-gen platforms, the Xbox One release - surprisingly - stacks up favourable against a maxed-out PC playthrough.
Performance on PS4 and Xbox One counts as a bigger concern, and neither deserves any sort of recommendation here. Frankly, it feels unpleasant to control Garrett when moving with any haste - not due to frame-rate dips alone, but because of the pacing of these frames, leading to stuttering. We'd encourage buying the well-optimised PC version, as handled by port veterans Nixxes, over either of these next-gen releases as there are far fewer issues in this regard.
All in all, it's hard not to be disappointed on a technical level with Thief. It's often our refrain, but in this case we'd strongly urge opting for the PC release if it's an option. If you're committed to buying for one next-gen platform or another, the superior texture filtering on Xbox One means it carries itself slightly better in the visual stakes - but frame-pacing aside, for the most part all three versions match up very closely indeed.

#275261 New Matrix Trilogy Supposedly in the works

Posted by Zinix on 01 March 2014 - 01:58 PM in The Café

We’ve heard about a return to the world of the Matrix on the big screen here and there over the years, but now a new report indicates that Warner Bros. and series creators the Wachowski siblings are moving ahead on a new trilogy in the series.

Latino Review has the scoop, saying that the Wachowskis have started the writing process and have turned in treatments and outlines to Warners. It’s not clear whether or not they’ll direct the films, if they actually come to pass.

#275119 Retro Studio: Wii U "great box to make games on." New game already in...

Posted by Zinix on 28 February 2014 - 01:52 PM in Wii U Games and Software

The Wii U, from a technical standpoint, is a "powerhouse," Donkey Kong and Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios believes. Speaking with GameSpot editor Peter Brown recently, Retro Studios president and CEO Michael Kelbaugh said developers shouldn't brush the console aside over fears that it's under-powered.

"Unfortunately, the perception is that it's not a very powerful machine," Kelbaugh said about the Wii U. "That's just not true. It's a powerhouse. It's more than adequate to make great games on."

Kelbaugh went on to label the Wii U a "great box to make games on." Retro Studios' first project for the Wii U was Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, released last week. He said his team had to overcome a steep learning curve that came with transitioning from Wii to Wii U. But he was happy to face this challenge, as it meant his artists became "uncorked" and free from the "traditional limitations" they'd been under for so long with the original Wii.

Also in our interview, veteran Nintendo producer Kensuke Tanabe confirmed that Retro Studios is working on a new game, but he would not say anything more than that. This game has been in development for a few months now, as Retro wrapped work on Tropical Freeze in November and hasn't been sitting by idly, Kelbaugh assured us.

But what might the new game be? Last year, iconic Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto singled out Retro as a "high-priority" studio to make a new Metroid game, leading some to believe the Austin, Texas outfit is indeed working on the beloved franchise. Miyamoto has also said previously that it "could be possible" for Retro to work on a new Zelda. But Kelbaugh won't say.

Snowden Leaks: XBOX KINECT CAMERA Targeted by Intelligence Services; Mass Collection of Webcam Feeds"

It was all true.
Everything they posted about, all that "hyperbole" about the Kinect camera, turned out to be the case. We have a physical document that explicitly states that it was and is all true.

Britain's surveillance agency GCHQ, with aid from the US National Security Agency, intercepted and stored the webcam images of millions of internet users not suspected of wrongdoing, secret documents reveal. [...] a surveillance program codenamed Optic Nerve collected still images of Yahoo webcam chats in bulk and saved them to agency databases, regardless of whether individual users were an intelligence target or not.

>Optic Nerve was just one of a series of GCHQ efforts at biometric detection, whether for target recognition or general security. [...] One presentation discusses with interest the potential and capabilities of the Xbox 360's Kinect camera, saying it generated "fairly normal webcam traffic" and was being evaluated as part of a wider program.

#274998 McDonalds Man Sues for $1.5 Million

Posted by Zinix on 27 February 2014 - 04:22 PM in The Café

McDonalds has made a new golden arch enemy -- a California man is suing the company for $1.5 MILLION ... because he says he only got ONE NAPKIN with his meal.

Webster Lucas claims he was stiffed on napkins at the Mickey D's in Pacoima, CA on January 29th -- after ordering a Quarter Pounder Deluxe -- and when he went up to the counter to ask for more, he was rudely rebuffed by the manager ... who insisted he already got some.

According to his lawsuit, Lucas -- who is black -- then retorted, "I should have went to eat at the Jack-in-the-Box because I didn't come here to argue over napkins. I came here to eat."

That's when Lucas says things got racist -- claiming the manager (a Mexican-American) mumbled something about "you people."

Lucas subsequently emailed the general manager to complain -- insisting he couldn't work because of the "undue mental anguish" he was suffering as a result of the napkin debacle -- and says he was insultingly offered free burgers in return.

Lucas wants to super size instead -- $1.5 million.

What a loser. Hope his case gets thrown out of court.

#274987 Rumor: Dino Crisis reboot as an Xbox One exclusive.

Posted by Zinix on 27 February 2014 - 03:54 PM in General Gaming

The classic Capcom series "Dino Crisis" is going to come back in the near future, according to a rumor that has started circulating today.

According to the Official Xbox Magazine UK Capcom will announce a "Dino Crisis" reboot later this year. This is surprising, considering that Capcom is currently more interested in developing new IPs rather than bringing back older ones, as confirmed by "Resident Evil: Revelations" producer Masachika Kawata some time ago.

Probably true since Capcom has been favoring Microsoft lately.
