#229075 Kamiya concerned that Nintendo isn't marketing Wonderful 101 much at all

Posted by routerbad on 05 July 2013 - 02:06 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Yeah. Nintendo's marketing is TERRIBLE. Outside of a few AC:NL commercials from time to time, I haven't seen anything.

I saw an ACNL ad last night at the movie theatre, it ran before Despicable Me 2.

#229074 Iwata: The whole industry is dealing with region locking

Posted by routerbad on 05 July 2013 - 02:04 PM in Wii U Hardware

this. people always assume no one lives overseas. I spent like 6 years in Asia, and it was a pain when I had a 360. Me and my buddies all switched to ps3 as soon as we could because it had no region lock.

As soon as I saw that woman have to tell her son that she has to find a way to get the Japanese version for him I went online and signed the petition, which actually has quite a few signatures, over 12K last I saw IIRC.

Never played the original so yes.  My preorder is almost paid off.

#229070 Iwata: The whole industry is dealing with region locking

Posted by routerbad on 05 July 2013 - 01:57 PM in Wii U Hardware

Honestly why do people care? It's not like there are 100's of thousands of players wanting to play games in japanese language anyway, Also there's bearly any GOOD games that came out on other countries in the language you want. When has region locking ever been a problem? Seriously name 5 examples of GOOD games that were in the language you wanted and wasn't available in your country of a game you really wanted.

I was in the same mindset not a week ago.  Until two days ago I went into Gamestop to pay down my preorders, add more preorders, and pick up The Last Story.

I'll preface this with the fact that I live in a Military town (San Diego) and there are LOTS of people that move in between the west coast and Asia (namely Guam, Australia, and Japan).  Yes I know AUS is not Asia.

A Japanese woman came into the store with her children and had to return a 3DS game she bought for her son's birthday, Mario Kart 7.  She had to return it because her son owns a Japanese 3DS and they just recently moved to America with her servicemember husband.  Because of region locking she has to import any title she wants to get for her son or buy him another 3DS, at a decently high cost.

This whole thing put the entire situation into perspective for me, as I may be moving to Japan in the next couple of years when my wife gets orders, so I may be faced with the same issues when I go to the local game store in Japan to buy some games.

#229066 Pachter: “Why Would Anybody Buy A Wii U?”

Posted by routerbad on 05 July 2013 - 01:46 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Patchers right this time, Nintendo screwed up this gen or should that be last gen, Miyamoto has even said that Nintendo's own teams have had problems getting to grips with HD gaming, come on now what sort of a lame excuse is that ?

http://mynintendonew...es-than-before/

That unfamiliarity with HD game creation only lasts so long.  Even as it is some of the games coming out look fantastic.  Retgardless of that fact, Nintendo still make great games, and games will sell the system.

Pachter said that Nintendo games were the only reason anyone bought an NES (it was a Nintendo delivery system).  While that is correct sales wise, it isn't correct with regard to support from other developers and publishers.  NES had plenty of third party games, though none sold anywhere near as well as Nintendo games save for Megaman and a few others.

Pachter made the same idiotic comments regarding the 3DS, and has only given a cursory mention that he "may have been wrong" about it.  He still doesn't even acknowledge its existence most of the time, because its a prime example of how moronic his predictions are.  The guy is definitely not an impartial person, and he flaunts his bias regularly.

#228199 Wii u Pro Controller battery in a gamepad?

There is a big difference between buttons and buttons with screen, camera, mic, NFC, sensor bar, etc.  That battery would be dead very quick

#227240 Ubisoft waiting until after Christmas to assess Wii U support

Posted by routerbad on 28 June 2013 - 03:52 PM in Wii U Games and Software

The parent approved sadly is very few. Kids + teens play shooters and driving games and their parents don't bat an eye. There is a reason every year COD is the biggest sales numbers. I agree parents should look in to it. But most don't now and it's shocking.

I agree

#227238 Iwata: More unannounced games coming to Wii U by 2014

Posted by routerbad on 28 June 2013 - 03:33 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Yeah heard it all before Iwata. We want results.

You heard Iwata say in the past that there are unannounced titles coming in 2014?  Who'da thunk it?

Of course they have unannounced titles.

And why the tone?  He's at an investor meeting, not in a Nintendo Direct.

#227142 Ubisoft waiting until after Christmas to assess Wii U support

Posted by routerbad on 28 June 2013 - 09:02 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I disagree. The PS4 and Xbox One are going to have a far more compelling and varied line up this holiday season then the Wii U. They don't just have FPS, sports and racing games. And its not just about the games but the game playing experience and the ecosystem they have built up from the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively. Both will sell far more consoles then the Wii U this holiday season. Just reading the reports about the level of preorders indicates that.

Their launch lineups are not going to be any better than the Wii U launch lineup was, and Wii U will have many of the multiplats coming this year from the likes of Ubisoft, WB, etc. as well as several Nintendo exclusives including Sonic, M3DW, Pikmin, W101, DKTF, and a whole host of indie games that have reached their kickstarter goals and are bringing their games to Wii U.  Some of those, like Road Redemption, is next gen exclusive on Wii U.

Also, Wii U preorders were sold out as well, if you remember.  If it hadn't been for the lack of first party titles (they had too many 3rd party games at launch, go figure) the momentum would not have stalled.

#227130 What if in a few years Nintendo made a Wii U RAM Expansion Pak?

Posted by routerbad on 28 June 2013 - 08:41 AM in Wii U Hardware

The WiiU has 1GB for games & the other 1GB is for the OS, so it has twice the amount as the PS3, which is not a lot, the laptop i am using which was £400 has 8GB or GDDR3 & is twelve months old.

The WiiU should of had 5GB, that's 1GB for the OS & 4GB for games, both the PS4 & X1 are said to use a lot of RAM for the OS & other things like Kinect & the game/video streaming, so even if they use half of their 8GB they have 4GB left for games where the WiiU only has 1GB.

Developers & programmers have always wanted more RAM, they always have & always will.

The only way a RAM pack could work is if Nintendo gave everyone the sticks of RAM & had them install it as it's very easy & simple to do, this is for everyone that already has a WiiU & then on a set day release a update that recognises the updated RAM & new WiiU units already have the more RAM installed.

PS3 had, initially, 256MB available for games.  They expanded that later by 70MB.  So no, it has 4X the usable RAM for games, and with a little OS optimization they can free up another 512MB no problem,

Nintendo is always on the cutting edge of cartoon graphics. The Wii U is plenty powerful enough for the next gen of red/ green overalls, giant gorillas, bananas, mini-carts etc.

No one cares if the Wii U can beat the ps3 or 360. The ante as been upped and we all saw it coming. Nintendo knew they were not going to be close to the performance of the next gen but went along anyway with their strategy of living off the popularity of their 25 year old franchises.

I like my Wii U. I don't love it. Consumers are agreeing with me and waiting for real gaming machines this year.

My Wii U will be my Nintendo 1ST party game machine and that is it. Developers know this is how many feel about Nintendo consoles now. We can see the results of this now.

"cartoon graphics" isn't a level of graphical fidelity.  It's an art style, that works for certain games that Nintendo makes, that is all.

The only reason Nintendo every started using a cartoony art style in their 3D games was the lack of RAM and cartridge space in the N64.  They had to use incredibly small textures stretched and blended and blurred over large areas to create environments.

Gamecube did a lot more, TP and Pikmin showed that they were able to create more realistic environments on their hardware.  The characters in those games certainly were not uber realistic, but the environments were incredible.

#227126 Defending the Xbox One against the hate

Posted by routerbad on 28 June 2013 - 08:34 AM in General Gaming

Yes, I like looking at similar environments over and over too.

Also, corrected a little spelling mistake you had.

If you've bought a shooter, sports game, or sim racer in the last few years you must.  Considering a 3D Mario comes out (other than Galaxy2) once in a generation while we've had a new Madden, NBA2K, NFS, and COD every year in the last generation I think using the same IP is just fine.  The "environments" are never the same.  If you are referring to "mushroom kingdom" as an "environment" that damn place must be the largest kingdom known in history.  Seriously where do all of these platforms come from?

On some emotional level, I agree with this strongly... But this just doesnt line up with reality.

Nintendos highest selling games of all time, just came this last gen, and the vast majority of them were brand new franchises unlike anything nintendo, or anyone else seriously tried to do before, and they crush everything, brutally in sales.

The problem is, i just dont, and i suspect you dont, care about any of them.

You mention not innovating anything since galaxy, yet, well, galaxy just came out last gen, and this gen hasnt even fully started yet. Some players havent even stepped up to the starting line yet. Its not exactly a long time ago.

The last zeldas core gameplay mechanics was completely unlike any zelda that came before, and can only remotely be compared to one other game in existence.

It also made breakthroughs in ai design and actually somehow had a working proprietary digital molecular matter solution on the freaking wii, (long story not short enough, notice how objects that can be cut, bamboo, shields, signs etc, always cut to the exact angle and position of contact no matter what strange angle or position you try to hit? You can make tooth picks or carve shapes? Its not model swapping like 99.99% of every game ever made including every previous zelda, its an ai that creates two entirely seperate brand new models custom made by your input and data from a physics engine, on ps360, this is rare and impressive, and very glitchy, on wii, its insane) you used for actual gameplay purposes, including combat and puzzles, feats untouched and unattempted anywhere in the industry that no one wants to talk about because 'lol wii'. Of course, skyward sword suffered from 'pioneering pains' or what a fma fan would call equivilant exchange. All that focus on changing up core mechanics, getting an impossible dmm technology working flawlessly, and revolutionizing ai, meant they had to fall back hard on old tropes for world and progress design, or the game would still be in development.

I dont think the problem is that they arent innovating. They are. Its just, they arent innovating what we want, and certainly not enough, and they are currently giving people who want more of the same (who historically buy waaaaaaayyyy more than us im afraid) their fair shares, and then some more shares, and then continue to pour content down their fat insatiable face holes.....

While i sit, alone, in my dusty hovel, skin stretched tight across my parched skeletal face, licking a screen playing a trailer for x, desperately trying to find any manner of fresh palatable gaming sustenence.

When I look out the window and see all the satisfied, way past full, now completely engorged gamers still getting the same content they can never get enough of crammed down their gaping maws, spilling all over their clothes and onto the floor, it makes me feel

...
......

Not. Happy.

Amen

#227083 Ubisoft waiting until after Christmas to assess Wii U support

Posted by routerbad on 28 June 2013 - 05:58 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I will agree to disagree. To me Mario + DK are strong but with mainly Nintendo die hards who will already own a WiiU. (Though if NSMBU is just HD wii game how is DKC not?) Also Mario 3D World I want it, however the general thoughts i saw online A LOT after it was revealed was "Meh it's a 3ds game sequel. I'll wait for nexrt galaxy before I buy wiiu"

2 exlusive games on WiiU (or even more) does not compaire either to the sheer amount of PS4 launch games + announced games http://www.ibtimes.c...ames-price.htm  that is pretty huge.

Add GTA V as a competitor (this years biggest sellier I predict, and I want saints row IV more) and I dont see Wiiu competing to much. I mean even the parent factor. Wiiu $300 very few games Ps4 $399 a lot of games + will be heavily advertised in stores. $99 is not too big a diffrence and most will go with PS4. even now ps4 preorders http://www.digitaltr...ords-during-e3/ and I quote "n total, PS4 and Xbox One orders during the week of E3 beat console orders from the same period in 2012 by 4,000 percent.

I'm not saying nintendo is doomed but I think 2014 = Nintendo's year. This year is not good for it.

There's something very wrong here.

Not only is your logic flawed in that the games that the WiiU is missing out on aren't exactly family friendly parent-approved titles.  Wii U will have a much stronger and deeper lineup this Christmas than both of the other consoles as well.  The lineup this fall for both of the other ones is (quite literally) shooters, sports, and cars.

#226849 Is true JRPGs dying?

Posted by routerbad on 27 June 2013 - 12:29 PM in General Gaming

http://kotaku.com/is...rying-595254819

If Atlus goes under JRPG gaming may be dead as we know it. Face it FF15 is an action game and X lacks true grinding (I'm not saying it's bad i'm just saying it's more adventure based) so without Atlus RPGs will be a thing of the past. It was my favorite genre too. Your thoughts?

Do we really know that X is strictly adventure based?  Also, JRPGs don't only include strategy games.

#226337 Broken Gamepad Cradle?

#226332 Nintendo @ Gamescom

Posted by routerbad on 26 June 2013 - 08:42 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Like I said I disagree the Vita is dead. People are coming to conclusions regards the Vita way sooner then they should be. Its still got a lot of life left in it and will likely bounce back.

Agreed.  I think it will find a market, and when it does, there are already some halfway decent games to play for it.  It really needs a price drop though.

#226299 Smash for Wii U/3DS will not have a Story Mode. Reason: Cutscenes will End Up On

Posted by routerbad on 26 June 2013 - 06:24 AM in Wii U Games and Software

They already confirmed there will be an all new story mode in Smash, if they decide to find another way to tell the story without cutscenes I say all the better. They should be able to make the story telling elements more interactive and engaging rather than relying on cutscenes anyway. Don't we all kind if moan a little inside when a game has too many cutscenes that end up telling the story for us rather than letting us experience it?

#226021 I think Bias is the reason for the Wii U's lack of third-party support

Posted by routerbad on 25 June 2013 - 12:15 PM in Wii U Hardware

I personally feel that Nintendo is going to transition into a portable/home console hybrid.  Think about about everything Nintendo has done.  They merged their portable and home console hardware divisions into one.  They have been very concious about getting a lot of performance with very low power draw.  The Gamepad already looks like a portable.  Nintendo could release a portable that has a wireless HDMI connection with the TV for the home console experience.  In five years time, Nintendo could do this and have more powerful hardware than both Sony and Microsoft.  Mobile technology has been advancing quickly.  I think the Wii U is the last traditonal home console Nintendo will ever make.

The reason behind merging the hardware divisions is unified brand vision.  In order to have competent cross play between handheld and home console, they need to be designed each with the other in mind.  I think this is what Nintendo really want in the next 5 years, this would also create more opportunity for resource sharing and multifaceted production teams.

#225377 why no watchdogs wiiu 360 ps3 footage?

Posted by routerbad on 22 June 2013 - 04:31 PM in Wii U Games and Software

The reason is didn't look as "impressive" on the ND was the fact that the video was choppy, leggy, and ridiculously compressed. It will look the same as the ps4 version as ubisoft have said. Anyone who still doesnt know that watch dogs x360 and ps3 development begins after Wiiu development is complete, here is your notice.

#224632 Lack of DirectX 11 support blocking Kingdom Hearts III from Wii U

Posted by routerbad on 20 June 2013 - 12:26 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Ok, so OpenGL can do everything that DirectX can, it's just not as convenient for developers. But the PS4 and Wii U both have OpenGL, so this is just Square nkt wanting to develop for anything other than x86.

OpenGL comes with basically all of the same shaders and fragments with different monikers.  OpenGL is the standard used on every device on the planet, including PC's running Windows, while DirectX is used only for Microsoft based systems.  DirectX isn't any easier or better than OpenGL, just more used because most game development is done on PC.

We'll have to agree to disagree, because the NSA's actions are entirely illegal.

We can disagree on a great many things, but the fact of the matter is that based on current law, which remains unchallenged by the Judiciary system, it is legal.  Unless more information comes out that makes it clear that their actions were outside the scope of FISA, its the unfortunate truth.
