Eh, as long as it's not buggy I'm happy. I've watched the videos and I still don't see what the problem is. Yes, there are games that look nicer than it. But this is still a decent game. Complaining about it won't do much, except maybe reducing the launch price (I'll admit I won't pay 75 Canuckistan Pesos for this)

#317745 Nintendo NX Rumors

Posted by grahamf on 26 January 2016 - 09:53 AM in Wii U Hardware

Eh, I don't know. I can try to guess the logical evolution of an existing Nintendo product (hence my believe in what the console will be) but I can't even begin to predict when Nintendo goes all left field. All I know is that it'll be a little weird then I'll want it badly.

Blackberry's QNX OS is capable of dynamic network distributed processing, where a device can link to other devices on a network and offload work to them as if they were another video card and such. It would be interesting if the NX can do something similar.

#317716 Even More New Footage of Twilight Princess HD - Nintendo Minute

Posted by grahamf on 24 January 2016 - 09:13 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Well I'll have to see if they make it a $30 game or a $70 game. $30 I still won't care, but admittedly $70 (thanks to the falling Canadian dollar) would prefer more polish.

Still, it is a 10 year old game. It's not like the PC world where people will spend countless unpaid hours patching Skyrim so it's super high def.

OK to be honest I think you're being a little picky. It still looks pretty great, and any "low polygon" parts seem to suite the art style well. I don't understand why people want things to be hyperrealistic, is it to cater to some sort of "god complex" where you have to convince yourself that the characters on screen are real people who's lives are in your hands?

It is a game. There are better ones, and there are worse ones. But TP stands up to time pretty well, much better than games who were all the rage for their time and are now complete and utter rainbow. Whatever happened to letting your imagination fill in the missing details, or simply skipping the details that don't matter? Will having rounded edges on the walls and such really affect the gameplay that much?

#317704 Paper Mario by Intelligent Systems - Rumored for Wii U this year

Posted by grahamf on 22 January 2016 - 07:41 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I really hope they find a way to make it as real as possible, Like you're looking at a stop-motion papercraft diorama.

...This may actually be a game that benefits from a lower framerate.

Maybe add a 3DS section? It would be nice to talk about the Mario&Luigi: Paper jam game that comes out in a few hours (It's predownloaded and the OS says it came out today but the game refuses to launch and says it's too early.)

#317631 What do you want the NX to be or what do you think it will be?

Because that's the industry's standard architecture.

You really think Nintendo is "Industry Standard"?

#317601 Wii U can't connect to wifi networks?

Posted by grahamf on 03 January 2016 - 08:36 AM in Wii U Hardware

I left my Wii U unplugged while I went home for New Years. Came back Saturday and it works fine now. I'm keeping my new adapter on hand though as it might stop working again.

Didn't help. Still the "could not find wifi networks" error instead of any other error.

#317585 Wii U can't connect to wifi networks?

Posted by grahamf on 28 December 2015 - 11:08 AM in Wii U Hardware

I'm scratching my head on this.

When I got home from holidays I fired up my Wii U to download SMG, but it refused to connect to the internet.

Rebooting the Wii U and router multiple times did not help.

The Wii U can see all wifi networks and recognizes the encryption used, but attempting to connect to mine, my phone, and any other gets the error of "no WIfi networks found." despite being able to see all networks in the vicinity just two screens ago. I verified that I'm typing the correct password

Eventually I got it working, but only for twenty minutes after which it refused to connect again.

I reset my router to factory defaults and set up a completely different network, which made no difference.

I suspect my wifi card is gone. I'm away for a little longer but I left my Wii U unplugged and ordered a USB ethernet adapter.

Is there anything else I can do? I don't want to call Nintendo as I have a massive library on my hard drive and upgraded the Wii U's gamepad battery.

#317550 Considering Hard Drives for my Wii U.

Posted by grahamf on 18 December 2015 - 03:51 AM in Wii U Hardware

Hi sorry for necroing an old thread, but I figured this is something to consider: http://www.amazon.ca...duct/B011TX62KS

it's a 2.5" USB enclosure with a built in hub and includes a power adapter. I can plug this into the back of my Wii U and plug my GameCube adapter (and Pebble charger) into this, without as much of a rat's nest as I currently have. it doesn't come with a drive, but I'm putting in it the 1TB Hybrid drive I pulled from my laptop when I upgraded to a SSD.

#317549 What do you want the NX to be or what do you think it will be?

Posted by grahamf on 18 December 2015 - 03:46 AM in Wii U Hardware

That's not a very viable take.

The 3DS is a MOBILE system. POWER is not what it's supposed t excel at. That's where the Vita whiffed - they focused on screen and power - while system support and battery life sucked.

a HOME CONSOLE must be based on power.

In case you missed it, the PS4 and Xbox One both easily outsold the Wii U - and gained much more third party enthusiasm BECAUSE THEY WERE MUCH MORE POWERFUL.

And they did so at a reasonable price.

I didn't say the time for a cheapie mobile is past. I said the time for a cheapie console is.

Big difference between what I said, the reality of the PS4/X1 vs wii u in the home space, and what your example was.

There may be room for weak mobile units. But there is no tolerance for a home based system that is weak.

It makes no sense to have it weak since it doesn't need to be concerned about the compromises a mobile system does.

Watch. The NX will pack some muscle. Because if it doesn't, it will be a catastrophic failure.

The 3Ds sold more because it was cheaper and had a large library.

No matter what Nintendo does, they will not do what is needed to cater to the whims of the AAA developers - who don't even meet Nintendo's quality control and family safety preferences. Big developers want insanely powerful systems at low costs to make up for the poor optimizations of their bloated and buggy engines, and demand the manufacturers bend over backwards to meet their demands. Nintendo would effectively destroy itself attempting to meet that criteria. that pretty much rules out major third party support.

While the Wii's controllers were a major selling point, I also believe that the low cost of the system and the approachable games were also just as important. It wasn't proper competition to the PS3 and 360, but it was a step up from those lousy Vtech consoles (and more tween friendly). It worked great as a secondary console to play the Nintendo library, and as a cheap console for families that wanted an introduction to the latest console generation.

All Nintendo needs to do is to make sure it's affordable and have a decent library available at launch (and just before Christmas and summer break).

I'm torn between Nintendo's choice in partnerships and the fact that Nintendo seems to be increasing it's media app portfolio.
