The only thing I really need is an update so the disc does not spin constantly regardless of being in use or not. As a side bonus I would like the option to install games on the USB memory to cut down loading times.

If I remember correctly the disc drive issue was resolved in the Spring Update (Version 3.0.0). And you can install games on any type USB memory since Version 2.0.0, although a Hard Disc Drive is advised. Have you updated your console recently?

Yes, I've had the most recent firmware for months and the problem is still there. How can you install retail discs onto the USB/HDD? I haven't seen that anywhere.

He might have meant if you download it off the eShop. Technically it does install it, but that's not what Uldkraemmeren meant.

Oh, I thought you meant installing eShop digital titles onto the HDD. Why would you want to install retail discs onto the HDD, if you bought the retail copy in the first place?

The reason for this is the price. I got Assassin's Creed 3 for 18$ a few weeks ago. The Eshop version costs 98$(!) So in order to cut down on loading times and noise, as well as wear and tear on the disc drive and, I would have liked to install it unto the USB memory. I consider this a standard feature, since the Xbox 360 (which is 8 years old now) has had it for years.

its not free its subsidized by a fee

 

as for the eshop version, prices are set by publishers.

Ok so I pay fourty quid a year for the service, but the service offers lots of free games, hence why I asked if the WiiU version had extra content due to high price of the game and higher spec console than the PS3.

like i said, you subsidize the games with that fee, and publishers set the price point on the eshop.

Yes I guess so but with how many games you get for that fee each game must end up costing the user peanuts.

The average read speed for USB 2.0 disc drive drive is about 28 MB/s and the Wii U's disc drive is 22.5 MB/S. I don't think loading times would be substantially dropped with this setting. Xbox 360 is a different case because its HDD is connected through SATA, not USB 2.0.

Well, Nintendo did say that Nintendo TVii will be coming to Europe in 2013, so there's a possibility that could happen. But it'll probably delayed to 2014.
