well i dont think you should be so quick to say the room for innovation will run out cos "what else are they going to do." believe me i had this thought soo many times before "what could they possibly do next" then bam they hit me with the wii, then bam they hit me with the wii u!! the key to innovation, is that you would never think of it until its been done by the one company that can think of it for themselves, thats why not everyone can innovate :)

so really, they're probably not going to run out of room to innovate, rather we couldnt possibly imagine what how they will innovate yet.

#57427 The Wii U is 2x the power of the Xbox 720

Posted by 10k on 25 January 2012 - 11:30 PM

Based on the IGN rumors (which are probably BS) the power increases for each console go like this: (keep in mind an increase of 100% is a fancy way of saying "double". So to triple you would actually need 200% (200% plus initial value of 100% = 300"))

Xbox 360 = 100% (Base Point)

Xbox 720 = 500% (6x the power of the 360, 100+500)

Wii U = 400% ( 4x the power of the 360, 100+300)

The 720 is said to be 20% more powerful than the Wii U, so I took the value of 500 and multiplied it by 0.8 (80%) and you get 400%. But, if you take increase 400 by 20% you get 480, meaning the difference between the 720 and U is 500 and 480.

The math doesn't add up. If the 720 is 6x the power of the 360, there is no way it is 20% more powerful than the U because the U would be 5.8x the power of the 360, a miniscule difference that is only 3.33%. So somebody is lying here. In order for the 720 to be 20% more powerful than the Wii U AND be 6x or more powerful than the 360 it would need to be a power increase of 576% or 6.76x (lets just round it to 7x).

Basically, the 720 has to be 7x more powerful than the 360 in order to be 20% more powerful than the Wii U. So either the 6x more powerful rumor was a mistake (too high or low) or the rumor of being 20% more powerful than Wii U was wrong.

(I'm no expert in math but I got by percentages down haha)

#57138 PS4 and 720 more powerful than Wii U?

Posted by SuperCow on 24 January 2012 - 07:37 PM

What are you people doing debating about which console is the strongest in the 6th generation?
Your in this thread to discuss the topic title.

You know what happends to threads when you get too sidetracked...

The cookie monster comes and takes all their cookies?

I think I'll answer this thread though.

The answer you've all been waiting for!!!!!!
The defining moment of your lifetime!
The answer is:
We dont know for certain, and can only make educated guesses based on history.
Such a guess may or may not be true for this generation because no one can see the future.
In fact, history isnt entirely consistent regarding this ;)

#56584 Wii U camera

Posted by Gruff on 23 January 2012 - 08:13 AM

I hope to see a somewhat decent, but not too expensive camera. Something like 3 MP isn't bad and is not expensive. And a video resolution of 854x480 isn't bad either. I'm not picky with these things, if I got something like I said, I would be more than happy with the Wii U controller's camera. The camera doesn't need to be all out. If people want to take HD video or massive 12 MP pictures then they can go out buy a camera made for those kind of things, but we don't need the price of the Wii U controller to go up because of the camera.

#56368 Future Proof?

Posted by HaoSenVastForest on 22 January 2012 - 10:27 AM

I think that the Wii U will be future proof for some time. I agree it may not be too much more than 5 years though but it should hold up pretty well. I think that the only reason that the Wii was underpowered was that the GCN sales as we all know didnt work out the best so why put all this massive power into a counsel that may not sell too well? Well that is why I am guessing the Wii wasnt too powerful. Also I dont think that Sony is going to make any massive improvements on the PS3 because attempting to make another leap is just suicide. Microsoft I dont think will make an actual gaming counsel more of a entertainment system for things like watching movies or just something similar to Apple TV. And of course nothing is quite time proof and Nintendo will of course want to improve on their ideas. So honestly I think that the Wii U will be time proof enough.

#52596 WiiU most powerful in the next gen?

Posted by Crackkat on 08 January 2012 - 12:46 PM

sheesh fanboy must be a forbidden word the way people take it so personally any you are incorrect like i said as nintendo's revenue is

1 trillion yen=12.984000 billion us dollars

and sony's revenue is

86.64 billion us dollars these are your facts you sirs are wrong anyway i wasnt trying to be so offensive by calling you a fanboy lol

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony for sony's revenue

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo for nintendo's revenue

sorry bro, this is not sony's gaming department, im sure you know that sony makes tonnes of different things, each division in a company has a budget, they cant all take unlimited funds from the whole companies bank account, it doesnt work that way. the gaming division has not made a penny this gen, the others have, but as a result those in charge of gaming will not be trusted with as much money as they previously have been by the other divisions so they will not be given as large a capital to make ps4. this is why they may have to go weak, surprising things happen in the gaming world, but really they make perfect sense from a business stand point.

and btw i agree the word fan boy should not be taken so harshly, i like to define fanboy as someone who prefers something. im a nintendo fanboy, but not a nintendo drone because i dont argue in favor of nintendo blindly, sorry i got defensive.

#50265 Future of Pokemon

Posted by Bill Cipher on 01 January 2012 - 12:03 PM

Well, being the resident pokefreak, I think it's only fair to state what I think will happen in the future of pokemon. Something that many people seem to forget is that Black/White both were advertised as a new beginning. This, along with various evidence leads me to believe that Gen V is as close to fully fledged reboot that we will get from the series. for those of you who haven't played, Gen V takes place in Unova, an completely isolated region of the Pokemon world. Until you beat the primary story, you can not catch Pokemon from other regions. This symbolizes that the game was meant to be a new game entirely underneath the Pokemon umbrella. Another fact that supports this is that Gen V takes place several years after the events of the previous generations (This is evidenced by how a former member of Team Rocket now has a family in the Unova region), and it was obvious that this was GameFreak's attempt to, for lack of a better term, reintroduce/reboot Pokemon to a new generation by creating a game that is still inside the primary world that they had built, but yet isolated enough that new fans could pick up and play without having to concern themselves beyond the Unova region if they want to. The final fact that proves that, at least as far as I'm concerned, that Gen V-VI will not have remakes, is that in the offical Pokemon Tournaments that the Pokemon company hosts, that every team for last years entry was only allowed to have Pokemon from Unova.

As for the future,we can make logical guess about what will occur. First piece of evidence about the future of pokemon games is simple. In June, Nintendo released Pokedex 3D, which featured fully 3D models. From this, we can assume two things, the first of which is that the next pokemon game will be on the 3DS, while the second is that it will feature fully 3D sprites for the pokemon. Another assumption that we can make about the future of Pokemon is that it will involve my namesake as a character at some point in the future, as after the story has been completed in B/W, you learn that N has been spotted in a faraway land.

As for Them reusing pokemon designs, I will state that while the general idea is the same between Woobat and Zubat, the two are different enough to prevent confusion. I believe that pokemon could truly be able to exist as long as they keep the designs between generations different enough. If they ever run dry, I'm certain that they could take inspiration from the various different wildlife that exists outside of japan. I would enjoy a pokemon game that features a pokemon models/inspiration from Australia.

Anyways, that's just my 2 cents :P
