#23771 Will the WII U have a brand new sensor bar?

Posted by Dementis on 24 August 2011 - 01:13 AM in Wii U Hardware

[If they use a new sensor bar] they will be forced to sell new Wii remotes or they will use the old sensor bar. It's just simple logic really.

It's not simple logic. They would have to go way out of their way just to make it not work. It's just two sets of inferred LEDs. You can replace the sensor bar with candles and it'd work (depending on light in the room, of course). It's nothing special.

Or are you not talking about what I think you are? You worded it badly.

#22979 Retro Studios are working on a Wii U game

Posted by Dementis on 20 August 2011 - 10:26 AM in Wii U Games and Software

The only official mention of Metroid was talking about possible concepts, which included the scan visor. As evidenced by Other M, Sakamoto cares more about gameplay (Actually, Other M is a terrible example) than writing short scientific logs about the creatures in the Metroid world, so either Retro are making another Metroid game or they it's just speculation.

Also for people whining about Metroid and saying they won't make another, a quick google search of "Retro not making anymore Metroid games?" shows random links and the only thing of relation is a blog post on 1Up entitled "Retro may return to Metroid one day".

#22822 Known facts

Posted by Dementis on 19 August 2011 - 07:16 AM in Wii U Hardware

So show me, I'm prepared to be astounded. Don't forget, I'm talking about comparing both at a resolution of 1080p, what most modern T.V.'s are capable of, as console players tend to use T.V.'s, and this thread is about consoles. I'm just using high-end P.C.'s as a measure of what "next-gen" consoles might be like.

I'm perfectly prepared to accept that you find the differences "jaw-dropping", fine, I don't, but does that change the points I made? A: That even a "next-gen" console which was as good as, or better than, a current high-end P.C. will not make the Wii U obsolete, and B: If gamers were really that "moved" by such things then we would all be playing on P.C.'s, not consoles.

The Wii U is very likely to hold it's own with "Next-gen" consoles, regardless of their power-ups.

It changes your points because:

A: A console with the same amount of current top of the range PCs is impossible, and if it weren't it would make the Wii U obsolete if just for the cool kid factor.

B: No, no we wouldn't. A PS3, which is considered to be amazing graphics can be bought for $299 last time I check, where as a top of the range PC costs well over $1000

#22809 Wii U's Rejection.

Posted by Dementis on 19 August 2011 - 01:04 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Yeah but the point is what if the 3rd parties fail at first then they completly stop making games on the console so once again people will switch consoles for different games and will end up like a wii with only 1st party master pieces that "Core" gamers don't and other garbage that no one likes.

Ever heard of dudebro? They're people who buy games solely on popularity or graphics. 3rd parties will appeal to them. And say, for example, you could use the Wii Zapper with the Wii U remote as a scope, that'd put you at an advantage in games like COD, and loads of people will eat it up for that sole reason.

And do you know how many people are massive fans of Nintendo games but don't own a Nintendo console for the fact that they can't afford to own 2 consoles and that the PS3 and 360 have more and better third party games? Loads. And if they can get all the first party Nintendo games and all the great third party games on one console it will do brilliantly.

NO MP4. IT WAS A TRILOGY FOR A REASON.
I'd like to see them do a new IP for Nintendo.

Sort-of like how they released a PotC Trilogy?
But before you die of rage, hear me out. A Metroid game that is developed by Retro doesn't need to be part of the Prime Arc. The sooner everyone realizes this, the better.

Also, Retro never actually said this, it was another one of those lies/rumors by that Emily Rogers person.

EDIT:

Retro isn't developing Mario Kart 7, they're helping design a track based on Donkey Kong Country Returns, that's all.

#22596 Known facts

Posted by Dementis on 18 August 2011 - 01:46 AM in Wii U Hardware

No, the comparison was specifically to show the quality of P.C. graphics over console graphics.

This is more like it though a little older;

It looks good when the video is stopped and the differences are pointed out, but how many would find this compelling enough, in gameplay, to buy a new machine? It certainly does not make the less powerful machine obsolete, as many "next-gen" evangelists are claiming would happen to the Wii U. I doubt the differences between the PS4 and the Wii U, at least graphically, would be much greater then the differences shown here.

I don't think you understand what we're saying. The difference between even PS3 and top of the range computers are jaw dropping. The ones posted here don't even show actual in game scenes.

And the differences must be bigger than that if Zelda won't be possible on PS3.

#22595 So whats gonna protect the controller?

Posted by Dementis on 18 August 2011 - 01:35 AM in Wii U Hardware

Have you ever seen someone drop a tablet by accident, or it sliding out of their slightly sweaty hands. No? Didn't think so...

That's a terrible argument because a tablet slipping out of your hands is actually plausible and the Wii U isn't a bloody tablet.

The Wii U remote is BIG. There is no way in hell you're gonna drop it by accident and concerns about motion controls are obsolete because there will be no game in which you're holding a Wii U controller loosely with one hand and waving it like a flag.

#22090 Pikmin 3

Posted by Dementis on 16 August 2011 - 11:05 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Well yeah i know you guys obviously don't care about graphics but if you're expecting Pikmin 3 to have ultra realistic plants and enviroments or to even have large maps and more pikmin onscreen well you can just put those dreams aside cause it was developed on the Wii and all they might do is just upscale the resolution and add new controls.

Bull. Nintendo have never done such a thing and never will because it would upset fans that much it'd probably get minimal sales.

You're saying that this looks the same as this?

Even that can't be used in an argument because the PS3 example was using the full power of the console, i.e, that's all it can show at one time, at a push.

#22055 Known facts

Posted by Dementis on 16 August 2011 - 07:28 AM in Wii U Hardware

The way I look at it is, to compare the PS3 and Xbox with high-end P.C.'s. I saw a comparison not long ago, possibly at IGN, and they had to slow the clips down to point out the differences, even then, I was less than astounded. I doubt the "next-gen" consoles will be much more powerful than a current top of the range P.C., and I don't see a stampede of gamers from current consoles to P.C.'s, so, though the differences will be hyped to the heavens, in reality, I doubt they will be Earth-shaking.

Erm... what? You might have to check a real comparison there because top of the range PCs are really ahead of consoles.

#22039 Secrecy

Posted by Dementis on 16 August 2011 - 05:18 AM in Wii U Hardware

Why are they being secretive? Ugh.

1. It's a year away from release, we don't need to know anything.

2. It's Nintendo, they never give out specifications.

#21056 Zelda Wii U Art Style

Posted by Dementis on 13 August 2011 - 04:11 AM in Wii U Games and Software

It's just an art style. But I would like realistic the most to make the most of the new hardware. Cel-shaded is usually used to reduce the file size of the game so you have room for other stuff, and it shouldn't be an issue for the Wii U.

I don't know where you read that, but it's not true, it's completely based on art style. Cel shaded games can have the most beautiful graphics and in some cases have the same amount or more polygons than other styled games, which wouldn't reduce the file size.

#21050 Wii U's Rejection.

What. Nintendo games sell to the Nintendo fans. 3rd party games sell to everyone else because most will (should) have extra features and better graphics.

#21038 The mystery HDMI port? It's just a weirdly shaped connection port

Posted by Dementis on 13 August 2011 - 03:00 AM in Wii U Hardware

Thinking about it, what else apart from the Wii Zapper could it be used for?

#21035 The mystery HDMI port? It's just a weirdly shaped connection port

Yes, this has been confirmed, by both ONM (The Official Nintendo Magazine, it's like the UK version of Nintendo Power) and the recently discovered patent sheet.

#17370 Will Wii U Change the "Hardcore" Opinion?

Posted by Dementis on 29 July 2011 - 09:19 AM in Wii U Hardware

Exactly. But people think back and remember Halo being an Xbox exclusive. Then, Xbox 360 and PS3 come out with all sorts of "hardcore" games. I think hardcore means online multiplayer that you can enjoy for hours. Hardcore in the literal sense would mean people screaming while banging they're heads against a plate of metal when playing a video game.

You evidently are very deluded. Hardcore games are games that are loyal to fans of the series. Hardcore gamers are gamers that are loyal to a specific game.

#17367 3DS/DS Player for Wii U?

Posted by Dementis on 29 July 2011 - 08:39 AM in Wii U Hardware

I doubt it because it would be just too complicated and lots of games use the two screens as one. The games at the time had 8-bit graphics as well, and quite a lot games on the DS use 3D graphics, which would look ugly because of low-poly counts and stretched textures.

Andy, I don't think you understand what upscale means. Upscale basically means stretching the image to fit the screen. It is impossible to be "upscaled to HD" and they won't be in HD for the same reason Wii games won't get a HD update. The reason why the Super Game Boy was so brilliant because it was a sort of HD upgrade at the time, it gave the Gameboy color upgrade and some games had extra assets in the data to upgrade sprites to better ones. This cannot be used with the 3DS or DS, mainly because it can only be done with a few games due to how the game is made and extra size on the cart and because it'd cannibalize the sales of the DS and 3DS.

The amount of times games have been ripped apart, people would notice if there were extra upgraded assets in the game, so they won't be upgraded for the Wii U so there wouldn't be much point, because the upscaling from such a small screen to the massive TVs most people have these days would make the 3D models look ugly.

#17362 Games don't need to use both screens at once?

Posted by Dementis on 29 July 2011 - 08:20 AM in Wii U Games and Software

What if you get information fast and your busy in a war and getting info through the controller?

What is this I don't even

#17330 Games don't need to use both screens at once?

Posted by Dementis on 29 July 2011 - 01:21 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Why would you even need to look at both screens as once? You can just quickly glance down to see your health, inventory, ect.

#16523 Let's Talk IPs!

Posted by Dementis on 22 July 2011 - 12:57 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Not that hard though. Just take a look at Fusionfall. They managed to mix most of Cartoon Networks shows into a single universe, so why can't nintendo do the same

Yeah, but they could actually fit relatively easy into the same universe. It's not easy to combine medieval Zelda with futuristic Metroid.

Donkey Kong Four?

A sequel to the gameboy Donkey Kong and with bigger levels. Donkey Kong Jr. returns.

#16498 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Dementis on 22 July 2011 - 10:50 AM in Wii U Hardware

Well Reggie did say that the Wii U will be affordable but then other sources say it will be expensive.

There are no other sources. If it's not from Nintendo it's not a reliable source. It's a year off even, so not even Nintendo can say.

#16451 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Dementis on 22 July 2011 - 05:56 AM in Wii U Hardware

Oh for god's sake. It's a year off! It's a place holder! There is no way in hell Nintendo would even think of selling it for $500!

#16414 The Legend of Paper Zelda Thread

Posted by Dementis on 21 July 2011 - 10:25 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Paper Zelda would look like the phantom hourglass intro.

Maybe

Hah, yeah, I was going to post this earlier but I couldn't find it for some reason.

#16171 Possible leaked Smash 4 Roster Found

Posted by Dementis on 20 July 2011 - 09:29 AM in Wii U Games and Software

That "Legend of Skulkid" thing is Skullkid from Majora's mask/Ocarina of Time

Weather this is real or not, I decided I'd keep a little hope by creating a guide that has a correct translation and goes through the list itself. http://www.mediafire...rege9rkzbesfyty

According to my translation, Lucario was the only SSBB character cut. :P

Ugh, please don't use a file hosting site. Post it here or use drop box.
