#152333 HDMI Flickers then goes black
Posted by naadofett on 26 December 2012 - 05:55 PM in Wii U Hardware
Did you try HDMI inputs on another device? Maybe it's a handshake issue. I had an issue like that once with my PS3. If I plugged the PS3 into my Onkyo AVR (audio/video receiver for those who don't know), I would get intermittent video (video then blank screen, rinse & repeat). Then if I plugged the HDMI from the PS3 directly into the TV itself and bypassed my AVR altogether that soloved the issue completely. So, maybe this is a similar case.
This is the video I made of the problem ages ago.

The Wii Shop points can only be used in the Wii Shop, not the Wii U Shop. The good news is you haven't lost your points, but the bad news is you can only use them in Wii mode.
As I feared. Oh well. I forgot I even had the points on the Wii so it's not like it's a big deal. I just thought it'd be convenient if I could've used them in the Wii U eShop.

#135894 YouTube app is now live!
Posted by naadofett on 21 November 2012 - 09:53 PM in Wii U Hardware
Such a shame that the app is pretty much garbage. I mean, you can't even browse from the gamepad and the interface is a sloppy mess. I'll stick to the browser.
Who do you suppose was in charge of developing the app? Nintendo or Youtube? I'm trying to think of where else I saw a similar complaint about Youtube on a device. Oh, I think it was people complaining about how crappy the iOS version of the Youtube app is compared to simply just using the Safari browser on iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch. Maybe this isn't a coincidence.

The opposite for me. I shop with Amazon all the time so I really like their shipping. I never even used the video service up until about 2 weeks ago when I nearly cancelled my cable. Then I realized I could use Amazon instead of my Netflix streaming account that I never used. So, for me I finally realized I could get use out of something I didn't even really know about before.
#132581 Wii U Available at Walmart
Posted by naadofett on 18 November 2012 - 02:51 PM in Wii U Hardware
Hmm, I ordered mine online with in store pickup without a hitch. I was kind of concerned, but absolutely no issues here.
I saw your original post, which is what gave me hope this morning. When I went on the website it would not allow me to order online for in-store pickup. Regardless, I ended up getting one at Best Buy across the street 20 minutes after I went into Walmart.

I agree with this. You'll be happily browsing through Miiverse, then you suddenly realise you're sat all on your own in a silent room...
It seems like such an easy fix to me. Just have the audio loop just the same way it does at the home screen. Maybe even add an option to disable the ambient sound in Miiverse, etc if you don't like it or something. But to start playing the audio and cut it off after a few minutes (or whatever the actual time is) seems really odd to me.

#137631 Digital Download Details?
Posted by naadofett on 24 November 2012 - 05:36 PM in Wii U Hardware
A couple nice things about the downloads come to mind:
1. All the games are sitting right there on the U and/or external hard drive. I'm not concerned with taking games to a friend's house to play or use on a second console at home or something.
2. Quick access to any game without having to get up and pop in a disc.
3. Not having to physically use the disc drive and listen to it spin up all the time. No, that's not a deal-breaker and completely annoying, but it would be a nice touch for me.
4. eShop discount points.
5. Download games when you feel like it.
But then there are the concerns:
1. Have to get over the "collector" aspect of my mindset that likes to see games sitting on a shelf even if I don't use them regularly.
2. Can't sell a game at a later date, but then again, being a collector I tend to not sell them at all anyway.
3. Have to hook up an external hard drive, but this doesn't bother me too much overall.
4. What if the external hard drive and/or Wii U console itself take a dump. Is there some way you'd be able to re-download the games again without being charged for it?
5. How do the digital downloads of full retail games work? You obviously download them from the eShop, but then do they show up as a new "channel" on your Wii U menu interface? I'd rather not spend $60 to experiment and find out. I'm sure others here could explain how this looks/works.
#159701 Gamepad signal extender?
Posted by naadofett on 15 January 2013 - 08:05 PM in Wii U Hardware
its IR they are using. ..OP - is your wiiU in a cupboard? i had that issue until i put it on top of the cupboard (TV unit) ..now i can play in bed -
IR = more or less line of sight. Last I checked, IR doesn't travel through walls....
#141624 How do u 'use/charge' your gamepad?
Posted by naadofett on 01 December 2012 - 04:47 PM in Wii U Hardware
Yea its like pouring water into a bucket with a whole in it. It will fill up but will take longer then if it didnt have a whole in it.
Also here is the nyko battery pack

#132651 Teardown?
Posted by naadofett on 18 November 2012 - 03:45 PM in Wii U Hardware
Yes there was a live stream but it was pretty useless.
To be fair, I'm not sure what's to be expected, really. If the innards don't explicitly show what the part details are, it makes it a little difficult to provide new information. Of course, that being said, this is what I inferred about the teardown since I didn't even know it was going on until they had already practically started reassembling it.

#132327 Wii U Pick-Up Stories
Posted by naadofett on 18 November 2012 - 11:28 AM in Wii U Hardware
Went to Walmart around 9:15 this morning (no pre-order) since the webiste said this store had them in stock 15 minutes before going over. They were sold out. Went across the street to Best Buy where there were already about 10 people in line just before 9:30 (non-preorders) and the guy came out and handed out papers for 12x deluxe units for people who didn't preorder (I was #11) and they had a stack of 8gb papers, but only a couple people in line after me at that point so they took 8gb units. After that I went to Fry's and got a Pro controller. They said they only had 5 deluxe units, which were all sold out. They had about 8x 8gb units there unclaimed, but were all stupid Fry's bundles that they couldn't sell the unit separately from. Then I went to Target near my apartment and grabbed their very last deluxe unit (non-preorder) for a friend of mine who is on a waiting list at GameStop and didn't make an attempt to get one on launch day because he thought they were sold out everywhere. Finally I went to the Target they recently added to our mall and they were 100% sold out already.
