#298697 Let's Talk IPs!

Posted by DarkMagician77 on 17 September 2014 - 09:46 AM in Wii U Games and Software

What Nintendo needs right now is a decent action adventure shooter like Metroid Prime on the Wii U!!!  They were one of the pioneers of this genre for crying out loud.  They also need  to revive IPs like Eternal Darkness, Starfox, FireEmblem, Custom Robo, F-Zero(FRN would make a great F0  Nintendo) etc for their home console.  They should tap into funding more quality indie titles like Festival of Magic, Shovel Knight, and SteamWorlds to fill in the gaps as well.

Fire Emblem isn't dead. We just got Awakening on 3ds last year and SMTXFE is coming out. Metroid has already been announced as in the planning. StarFox was at E3 and has a 2015 release date. Fast Racing Neo will take care of F zero and they have over 80 new IP's the last 13 years. They have Fatal Frame just need to bring it west for horror. They also have a Action/Shooter coming up from the creator of Ninja Gaiden in Devils Third.

I am aware that some of these games have come out on the 3DS; but they have not come out in years for a home console.  Metroid Prime for example have been missing from the home console scene almost 7 years and some games like FE, StarFox, F0, Custom Robo, Battallion Wars, etc are even longer.  Besides, W101, Drillon, Sakura Samurai, NintendoLand and Splatoon what other IP's have Nintendo created?  I know they have a backlog of IP's but they rarely use them regardless of how well received they are by the public for example Eternal Darkness.  I for one wished that Nintendo funded and co-owned Shadow of the Eternals and made it into a sequel to Eternal Darkness rather than funding a superfical game like Devil's 3rd from Itakagi.

Let just enjoy Wii U for what it is. We just need gameplay now. Let's stop with the crazy need to try and prove Wii U is not underpowered. Mainstream gaming has made up their mind on what Wii U is.

AMEN!!! The Wii U is fine for what it is...Nintendo games in full HD resolution!!! Let the fools still thing that the Wii U has "only 160 SPU"  and has less GFLOPS than the X360. The trolls will never see how good of a system it really is.  I for one have been enjoying Mario 3D World, MK8, W101, Pikmin 3, ZombieU (yes ZombieU), Child of Light, Rayman Legends, Trine 2 etc.  I am looking forward to picking up Bayo 2 , Hyrule Warriors, Smash, and Captain Toad.

Confirmed that this nice looking game is running at 720p @ 60fps, a nice thing to know; and shows that the Wii U MosDef has some muscle.

Im not sure if your saying its not that big of a deal, or trying to say that the Wii U doesnt have a 160 SPU GPU?  Its been pretty well proven that the 160 SPU theory is more than likely accurate.  All you need to do is look at the AMD HD6450, a 160spu GPU with 8 texture units and 4 rops (Wii U's GPU supposedly has 8 ROPS), but overall is very close to the Wii U's suggested specs, and as you can see from testing done, it can outclass the 360/PS3, and thats in the PC environment.  Take a look at this if your skeptical.

http://www.techpower..._Passive/9.html

People, and I am no exception got to hung up on the "flops" performance of the GPU.  The majority of developers gave positive reaction to the GPU and memory, it was the CPU that gave them some fits.  Time constraints and cruddy dev kits and support from Nintendo is what caused the underwhelming performance with the early ports, and then the low sales of Wii U resulted in publishers devoting very little resources to the Wii U ports.  Imagine if all the early ports had been as good as Need For Speed MW and Bayonetta, the perception of Wii U might be a bit different throughout the industry.

This is a much better source for the Wii U's Latte GPU:  http://www.techpower.../wii-u-gpu.html showing that it is indeed a step up from the very capable Xenos GPU http://www.techpower...-360-gpu.html.  The Latte is most probably derieved from the Evergreen GPU 5550 that was released nearly 3 years before the Latte went into production and not an AMD HD 4xxx because of power consumption and the Latte showing the capablity for DX11 equivalent effects. http://www.cinemable...ii-U-58370.html http://www.nintengen...-wii-u-gpu.html http://www.cinemable...hics-47126.html

Anyways here is a few more things that might help enlighten about the possible Wii U GPU:

http://www.extremete...-ibmamd-cpu-gpu

http://www.amd.com/e...ktop/5000/5550#

http://en.wikipedia...._5xxx.29_Series

The Wii U GPU is most definitely not in the same area code in terms of raw power compared to PS4/X1 but it is still a very capable GPU. It along with Nintendo's artistic style is going to be enough to create some of the most beautiful looking games this generation.

Sorry, but no.  Pointing to the good looking Nintendo first party games only prove Nintendo has talented artist and programmers.  The HD5550 can run Batman Arkham City in 1080p native, and hold a framerate well above 30 fps.  Wii U struggled to run it at 30fps in 720p native.  I dont argue that these ports werent properly optimized for Wii U, but PC games arent optimized either.  A PC with the same specs as a console should never outclass it.  Ignoring game performance, some pretty educated people wete able to actually count the registers, and there were only enough for 160 spu's.  So the two scenarios we have is that either Wii U's GPU is a close match to the HD6450, even power draw supports this, or its close to the HD5550 but for some reason severely underperforms.  The HD5550 can run ever single multi plat far better on PC than the Wii U runs them.  It would actually support the idea of incompetance if Nintendo built a console that is less than the sum of its parts.

We will just have to agree to disagree as many have already proven (check the links) that the Wii U GPU has 320 SPU's.http://www.techpower.../wii-u-gpu.html   http://www.eurogamer...inally-revealed . Only a few crackpots according to some in Gaf, Eurogamer, Beyond 3D, VGC are undercounting the SPU's for their demented pleasure; and believe that the SPUs are 160 Anyways, I'll stick to what I see instead of all that technical jargon which in the end of the day means null to enjoying beatiful Nintendo software.

Nintendo really needs to pick these guys up as their exclusive developers.  I know they only have 3-4 legit games as their IP but they could sure help Retro, Monolith Soft, and even Nintendo tap into the potential of the Wii U.

It's part of a dlc pack coming out .

wow...I ordered both packs not even knowing it had it!!! Anyways, FRN would make a proper sequel for F-Zero!!!  I hope Nintendo somehow wakes up and funds these quality games.  I agree with the w101 and Bayo2 funding but I have doubts about D3rd and think they missed an opportunity with Shadow of the Eternals.

It does look amazing... the amount of detail in the environments shown thus far for a racing game is pretty amazing. 60fps too. I am excited for the fzero course in Mk8.

There's an F course in MK8?   Anyways, this would make a great farmed out F0 for Nintendo if they do choose to release the game on the Wii U.  In fact, SoE was a good ED sequel which I was surprised that Nintendo didn't fund to make a sequel.

Somebody start a petition for Nintendo to add these guys to their stable of studios.  I know that Silicon Knights left a bad taste in their mouth; but Shin'en seems to be a lot more professional.  Whoever picks ups Shin'en not only gets their talent but a few decent IP's as well (Jett Rockett, Nano Assault, FRN, etc).

too late. They are making porting a ps4 game as we speak. Who knows what the future holds. They say they wont abandon nintendo fanbase. I will take a wait and see approach.

I think you guys are TOTALLY underestimating Sony gamers.

Just because they porting over a nearly 2 year old game for the PS4, doesn't mean that Nintendo can't buy them.  It's a long shot but stranger things have happened before (Nintendo buying Fatal Frame franchise, co-owning the IP for Bayo2, and having a 3rd party developer create a new Nintendo IP in the form of the W101).

#298835 FFXV Trailer does it's best Xenoblade impression

Posted by DarkMagician77 on 19 September 2014 - 05:43 PM in General Gaming

Yeah, I always have a soft spot for reality based fantasy too.

People arent comparing the games, just the visual themes, which 15 very blatantly 'borrowed' from Xenoblade and X.

Its pretty conspicuous too. The game was shown off many times before, had nothing remotely X like about it. It dissapears for an extended period of time after X is shown off, and resurfaces with a new director and X styled imagery duct taped all over it. Thats what we are comparing.

And while we are mocking the blatant copying and car full of beleiber fanboys a little, I know I would be lying if I said aping X wasnt working, it appeals to me much, MUCH more than it did pre X copying.

UNFORTUNATELY, unlike X... Its not looking like its going to be remotely close to X in terms of open world exploration... Or even open world at all.

Given all of the interviews, and now the latest trailer, it does indeed look to be styled after the action games Nomura keeps likening it too, complete with an on rails adventure, and that highway looks like its your rails, looks like you get off when the game tells you can, tells you to go do your scripted events in the scripted areas and missions, and then get right back on the rails to go to the next attraction.

3Dude summed it up pretty well; you just left out the part where plot and strory will be typical SE where it either confuses the hell out of you with so many twist; or a boring, predictable cliched script that once again is covered in eye candy.  Seriously think that SE had gone downhill since letting go of Sakaguchi san.

They seem like two different games to me. I don't see the point in comparing them. Both are probably going to be great anyway. On the subject of Final Fantasy XV, this is probably the most i've been excited about a Final Fantasy game in a very long time. It's an interesting concept, a fantasy world based on reality. The characters move so smoothly in combat and the graphics are pretty gorgeous.  I think it's going to be pretty cool. Xenoblade X looks pretty cool too (even though I don't have a Wii U).

check out the two videos I posted earlier; FF15 design is really influenced by XBC and XB!!!

Grandia series perfected Turn Based. FFIV took it to ATB. CT polished it. Grandia revitalized and perfected it.

Last Grandia game I played was for the Dreamcast!!!  Man I loved that system...just like the Wii U the console is much loved by the few who own them!!!

#298825 FFXV Trailer does it's best Xenoblade impression

Posted by DarkMagician77 on 19 September 2014 - 12:15 PM in General Gaming

FF15 most definitely drew inspiration from Xenoblade Chronicles.  It maybe a step or two above XBC in terms of graphics but originality and gameplay seems to favor XBC over FF15.   Also with SE predictable and cliche plots recently; XBC also is a step above that!!!  It's gonna be a good battle between these 2 rpgs.  I think XBC will out score FF15 in reviews but FF15 will mosdef win in the sales dept.  I predict XBC will sell between 1.2-1.5 mil units lifetime and FF15 will get >5mil easily

okay ppl Bayo2 it is!!!

Posted by DarkMagician77 on 17 September 2014 - 12:14 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Bayonetta you get 2 games for the price of one. Tho I am biased as I love PG games in general. Warriors games I enjoy but it's more niche as people either like or hate those games. Bayonetta is just the best Action game ever made period and Bayo2 can likely top it.

HW I think you need to ask yourself how big a Zelda fan are you and have you played a Warriors game before. If not might be best to try some others first to get a basic idea. HW is not a reskin so other Warriors games don't give a full idea but a basic idea what to expect.

Thanks, the 2 games in 1 does sound mighty tempting!!!  Anyways, I've played a little bit of Warriors on the 3DS and it was somewhat boring as I did not know any of the characters or the point to the story.  However, having a story based on Hylian lore might make it more interesting to us Nintendo gamers.  By the way does Bayonetta play similar to DmC, Darkstalkers, or Dante's Inferno?

#299194 Bayonetta 2-First Print Edition Sold Out

I'm hoping this is a good sign on what sales will be like for Bayo2 for the region.  It'll be considered a success if Bayo2 sells ~100K units for the month in the EU alone.

I mean ZombieU sure isn't going to win awards in visuals but it ain't that far from many PS3/360 top tier First Person games.

I think Zombi U at first got a bad rap because the game looks ok and not spectacular. (time restraints and budget had a lot to do with it) The game has amazing gameplay, there are some times I thought the character models could have been better but some of the scenery.. and again that Wii U lighting helps capture the mood perfectly.

ZombiU-Kitchen.jpg

Yeah despite the time constraints and lower budget (Ubisoft is unicorn tongueing that this hasn't made a profit) it turned out to be a decent/good game comparable to some mid-late gen games on the Xbox 360!!!

After playing wind waker HD, I don't understand why people still hates cell-shaded Zelda game. It might not be best, but it is still not a bad decision

I actually think this will age better screenshot1.jpg
