#316387 Comics Thread: Ultimate Detective Guardians of the Multiversity, Now with ACTION

Posted by Portal on 31 July 2015 - 04:34 PM in The Café

Random comics update. I bought the Fury's Big Week trade for my dad's b-day, and Batman #42 for myself.

I was surprised by the length and price of Batman. $4.99 again, but it also felt twice as long as Kanan, so I guess I'm alright with it. I really liked how it's such a great jumping on point. I mean, my brother gets a few references since he's watched so much of the DCAU, but I can just as easily enjoy simply thinking "New villain making superpowers? Cool."
MUST KEEP READING.

#316351 Final Fantasy Explorers is coming to the West on the Nintendo 3DS in 2016

I know what the first 3DS retail game I'll be getting next year is. :D

#316334 Best game ever?

Posted by Portal on 29 July 2015 - 06:56 PM in General Gaming

So like, EAD, second-party, or Nintendo published? I immediately think of the Galaxy games. Metroid Prime, and Kid Icarus: Uprising. Not in that order.

#316282 Dragon Quest XI - PS4, 3DS, NX

Posted by Portal on 28 July 2015 - 05:18 AM in General Gaming

I was really excited when I saw the announcement. Now I have more than one reason to get a New 3DS later on. Except SE thinks the west doesn't want DQ. Still waiting on DQ7 and DQ8...

#316209 Resident Evil Revelations 2 Coming to PS Vita August 18th

$40 digitally with no physical version. When the physical PS4/XBO versions are $30 new.

Complete digital versions are $25.

And it's not on 3DS either. You know, 'cus the first game was originally on 3DS and sold the most in comparison to other platforms.

Just a heads up, that copy of RotJ is the "Noooo" version. And do you use Netflix at all? I know you like physical copies, but with Netflix you can watch those movies or tv shows you'd only watch once without paying $10-$30 each. Just curious.

#316146 SuperMarioMaker-inspired episode of CakeWars tonight at 8pm ET/ on Food Network

Posted by Portal on 20 July 2015 - 09:27 AM in The Café

Man! I'm going to miss this. I'm more of CutThroat Kitchen and Chopped guy, but I'd watch this for Super Mario Maker. Sounds quite interesting.

#315977 Legend of Korra Book 4 discussion

Posted by Portal on 10 July 2015 - 04:23 PM in The Café

http://darkhorsecomi...st/123734652322

Three volumes of Korra graphic novels announced. Take place after Book 4 and is supposed to focus more on Korrasami. Both Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are involved. I know the show was divisive, but I've been waiting for this announcement since Book 4 ended. And yes, I am currently going through A:TLA. I'm almost done with Book 1. Hopefully TLA and both series of graphic novels can hold me over until Geniuses, and then Threadworlds.

#315894 New 3DS games

Posted by Portal on 07 July 2015 - 06:28 PM in General Gaming

Xenoblade Chronicles is an exclusive. RE: Rev, MH3U, MH4U, MM3D, KH3D, Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3, Ironfall, and Moon Chronicles immediately come to mind as games that use the C-stick as the CPP. I think that's generally it.

#315890 New Interview from Gunpei Yokoi

Posted by Portal on 07 July 2015 - 05:19 PM in General Gaming

http://www.nintendol...last_interviews

I find it interesting how a lot of what he says is even more meaningful now. What with greater graphics and a seeming lack of originality or even much potential for it. It's a shame his life was cut short. He really seemed ahead of his time. I'd imagine if he were still around he'd be a rather unique indie. Even dabbling in other areas.

#315883 Bryan Konietzko Reveals Threadworld

Posted by Portal on 07 July 2015 - 04:28 AM in The Café

http://www.ew.com/ar...dworlds-preview

Threadworlds is a new graphic novel coming from Bryan Konietzko. You know, the guy who gave us the awesomeness that is Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Oh, and there's FIVE PLANETS IN A SINGLE ORBIT. God only knows what that means for the story, but it sounds REALLY cool!

#315845 Microsoft didn't consider Nintendo a competitor last gen

Posted by Portal on 05 July 2015 - 06:16 PM in General Gaming

Wii kicked their ass in sales from start to finish. 101 million sold. MS and Sony didn't make a dime on hardware for years. Nintendo made about 100$ profit on every Wii sold. At one point there was more Wii's sold than PS360 combined. While PS360 sold well they never caught up to Wii but also lost billions.

I think we should all take a step back and remember that pure console sales don't determine who "won" each generation. It's the awesome games and classics. For example, SMG1/2 AND 101 million Wii sales. Not that I'm saying Wii won. I've barely scratched the surface of last gen's catalog and I'd hate to start that discussion.

#315806 Comics Thread: Ultimate Detective Guardians of the Multiversity, Now with ACTION

Posted by Portal on 04 July 2015 - 04:06 PM in The Café

Batman #41 is the one with Mecha Bunny Batman, right? :P I need to pick that up when I get the chance, especially since Snyder's done such a good job with his previous Nu52 Batman work. If you get the chance, I reccomend reading all the Mainline Batman books from the Nu52. Court of Owls is honestly amazing.

Spiderman was basically the only consistently good thing the Ultimate Universe produced. We got Incest in the Avengers FFS :P

SpOck's whole character kind of makes me want a Superior Spiderman Movie, I'll be honest.

My comments on The-Man-Who-Dresses-like-a-Bat from above remain true. I've never really been a Superman guy(Though I have enjoyed several of his stuff). The new series sounds at least interesting, especially with the 3 books running one arc but different timing and such. I picked up Starfire #1 and it's decent. I enjoy the art and it's nice to see Starfire not being what she was in the Nu52 :P

Mainline Batman volumes, got it. I'll see if I can't pick up the first one next month. I find it funny that a year or two ago I didn't buy too many books, and now I'm trying to figure out to read all these different ones.

#315801 Rumour - NX will NOT be competing in power with PS4

Posted by Portal on 04 July 2015 - 02:31 PM in General Gaming

That's not good. WiiU wasn't too bad. Look at Bayonetta 2 or Zelda U. But NX needs to be ATLEAST as powerful as PS4, preferably more.

#315790 Comics Thread: Ultimate Detective Guardians of the Multiversity, Now with ACTION

Posted by Portal on 04 July 2015 - 11:49 AM in The Café

Picked up a copy of Batman #41 today. First Batman comic I've read. All my Batman generally comes from pop culture and what I've seen of the DCAU and various other TV shows. I REALLY enjoyed it! It had great length, great art, dialogue, and was a REALLY easy jumping on point. Pretty much Batman's dead, here's an energy monster, and here's a few flashbacks to set up the new Batman. I only intended on reading #41, but I'll definitely read this volume. It's so interesting!

#315772 Comics Thread: Ultimate Detective Guardians of the Multiversity, Now with ACTION

Posted by Portal on 03 July 2015 - 04:43 PM in The Café

I am bumping this thread. What with Marvel's new Star Wars series, both DC and Marvel reboots, and some user interest, this doesn't seem like a bad idea.

To kick off some discussion, I followed the Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Son of Dathomir(SoD) from Dark Horse last year. I am currently reading Marvel's Star Wars: Kanan: The Last Padawan. I plan on getting Star Wars: Lando #1 and Star Wars #7 this month and the Volume 1 TPBs for the other Marvel Star Wars series as they release. If that means anything.

Any thoughts on the DC and Marvel reboots? I'm interested in Marvel's new Avengers, Spectacular Spider-Man, and Ms. Marvel series. Of course, I'll probably just follow Avengers because of the multiple characters and my lack of money. I do however, plan on buying the Ms. Marvel Volume 1 TPB soon, given I've heard such good things.

So after my mega-post, someone needs to reply to this thread so I don't look stupid? ;D

#315757 MEGA MAN LEGENDS IS BACK! Maybe

Posted by Portal on 02 July 2015 - 05:55 PM in General Gaming

I'd prefer Kao: King of Pirates, but whatever. I enjoyed ASG, but I was really only hyped for the MML3 demo way back in 2011. 'Cus eShop and next-gen online. I feel old. Kinda hype?

#315660 Shovel Knight coming to retail

Well, I haven't downloaded yet, so I might as well get this physical copy. It's supposed to be amazing.

#315617 Your Top 5 or 10 DS Games

Posted by Portal on 30 June 2015 - 02:09 PM in General Gaming

Then why am I having so much fun playing this game?

I didn't mean for my post to sound like M&L:PiT is less of a game because it's digital. More like in regards to this thread, digital has minimal bearing on the topic. If that makes sense. IMO DS games should be played on either original hardware or 3DS. Authenticity and all that.

#315610 Your Top 5 or 10 DS Games

Posted by Portal on 30 June 2015 - 11:01 AM in General Gaming

Wii U eShop

PHYSICAL COPIES, MAN. EShop prices are pretty decent, but eBay is generally cheaper and if it's not the game is complete. GBA and DS games on WiiU are practically glorified iOS or emu ports. It's not quite right.

#315482 Nintendo gone Mobile/Nintendo NX system

Posted by Portal on 27 June 2015 - 06:30 PM in General Gaming

Nintendo started talking about NX to third parties at E3, reaction was positive

http://fortune.com/2...-miyamoto-wii-u/

Well, I'm now counting on a ND maybe around February 2016 to somewhat show off the 3DS successor. Kinda like the New 3DS reveal, but a bit less so. E3 2016 will swansong the 3DS and WiiU with the first NX hardware(or software if it's more of an OS) being fully revealed with a 2017 release in March, September, or November. Keeping in mind Japan gets handhelds well before the rest of the world. I think that's a decently educated guess.

#315475 Mario Is Unreal

Posted by Portal on 27 June 2015 - 04:47 PM in The Café

I gotta be honest, that's pretty much what I expected Galaxy 3 or Super Mario U to look like. Albeit more cartoony/stylized. When he showed off the castle, I immediately thought "Zelda!". Bayonetta 2 proves the WiiU can do this and a heck of a lot more, but I do remember that Fire and Ice Unreal demo, and I wouldn't mind seeing OoT or Prime 4 looking like that. Maybe in a few more years...

#315414 8 SEGA 3D CLASSICS ON-SALE FOR 50% OFF

Posted by Portal on 26 June 2015 - 08:10 AM in General Gaming

Ugh. I told myself when they first released whenever they went on sale, I'd get a couple. A $10 eShop isn't much, but it'll mess with my wallet/budget.

#315389 Nintendo - The 75th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders

Posted by Portal on 25 June 2015 - 06:26 PM in General Gaming

This is the kind of stuff I thought would be mentioned at E3. I was really expecting more when Reggie mentioned "transformation" at Nintendo.
