#59700 Why it won't matter if Wii U is not as powerful as neXtBox and PS4.
Posted by MachineLaw on 04 February 2012 - 07:30 PM in Wii U Hardware
I don't think PS4 or NextBox will be that much more powerful, they don't have enough money to do something like last time. Besides, I believe that the Graphics race is over.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to the RAM race. Graphics are coming to a point that until we get past the Uncanny Valley, they won't be getting any better, so until that happens, it will be who can get more stuff happening on Screen with without a drop in quality. But the problem is that RAM is more expensive then GPUs and stuff, so Sony and Microsoft can't afford to try to take out the Wii U with that either.
In Conclusion, the Wii U is great, and will not be overshadowed by either of the new systems.
Agreed 100%. Sony should focus more on bringing the company back to profitability and Microsoft is still working on integrating all of their services into one, so I don't see new consoles for at least 2 years.

#52395 Why it won't matter if Wii U is not as powerful as neXtBox and PS4.

NES --->SNES (2x) --->Nintendo 64 (3x) --->GameCube (3x) --->Wii(1.5x) ---> Wii U (3x)
PlayStation One --->PlayStation2 (3x) --->PS3(3x) ---> PS4 (?)
GB ---> GBC (2x) --->GB Advance (3x) --->Nintendo DS (3x) --->Nintendo 3DS(3x)
PlaySation Portable --->PS Vita (3x)
As you can see in this pattern, the Wii is the only console that didn't have any substantial upgrade compared to all the other ones shown here, which meant that most of it's games were essentially Gamecube games with a little more detailed. Of course there were new ways to play the game and Wii hardware itself allowed for a heck of a lot more features than the Gamecube did, but we are strictly speaking about graphical capabilities here since this is all what Sony and MS fans want to hear about.
Quite the difference, right?
Even if Wii U graphics aren't as good as the other two it doesn't mean that players won't be amazed of what it would be able to do. Take a look at the screenshots above for a quick example. PSP had considerable more graphics capabilities than DS and games like God of War, Syphon Filter and Peace Walker demonstrated that, but actually seeing Pokemon the way it was shown on DS was amazing to Pokemon players because it was a great improvement over it's predecessor, so even though PSP had better looking games, it was more amazing to see the transition of Pokemon Ruby, Golden Sun, Mario & Luigi, etc. from the GBA to the DS, and since most of PSP games were transitions from PS2 games they actually looked worse or equal to their respective franchise games on the PS2.
The problem with the Wii was that Nintendo's franchises wouldn't have a drastic change of how they looked on the Gamecube, so people weren't expecting much amusement from seeing new entries from classic franchises. Granted Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 and Skyward Sword look really amazing, but Nintendo's creativity can only go so far with the limited hardware. Again, take in mind that we are only discussing graphical changes, I'm well aware of how awesome Skyward Sword motion controls are and that the Gamecube wouldn't be able to give me that experience.
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (GameCube)
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii)
Not much of a difference in graphics.
To conclude this post, I want you to think about how absolutely incredible a new Zelda, Metroid or F-Zero would look like with Wii U's capabilities, and how different they will look from the usual Wii games. Nintendo will once again show why they are one of the most creative developers out there.
I would really like to know what you guys think about this, and if you think that there would really be a drastic difference between Wii U's and PS4's graphics capabilities that would guarantee the Wii U to be outdated. I really hope I got my point across with this post.

Your figures are very wide of the mark.
The n64->GC was a MASSIVE leap. 10 times more RAM(and much faster), a CPU that was 10-20 more powerful and a GPU that was about 100 times more powerful(n64 could do about 150,000 textured poly the GC 15m). PS->PS2 was similar and the PS2->3 was about a 10-15 fold increase. The snes->n64 cant really be calculated because the snes was a 2D machine.
However your point will probably be proven correct but for other reasons- like diminishing returns on adding detail, cost of producing very detailed graphics makes it non-viable and the possibility that MS/Sony won't be as aggressive with their specs for those very reasons.
Ok, I agree with you, but I think you went too technical there, there's no real need for specifics like that. To the average consumer that will buy a Wii U, the separation between GC/Wii graphics will still be as relevant as the separation in graphics of the other consoles I listed. I also believe the Playstation brand needs to cut costs on producing ultra high-spec systems, since their last two aren't doing so good.

#39271 What I want in the Pokemon battle game
Posted by MachineLaw on 29 October 2011 - 11:04 AM in Wii U Games and Software
They should make a sequel to Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness. That's what I want in the next home console Pokemon game.Gen 5 just started so I think its too early for a gen 6, they should fix up Gen 5 with Pokemon "Gray" on 3DS by bringing Pokemon into the next gen handheld, and have it connect to Black and White normally, but it would be a 3DS game. Kind of like they did with the mystery dungeon games when the DS first came out. After they have that settled, they need to make the Ruby and Sapphire remakes for the 3DS. They screwed up the cycle so bad by putting B/w on the freaking DS.
Absolutely agree with you, I really don't understand how they couldn't just wait a little bit for the 3DS to release and start the 5th Gen on it. It would have been the PERFECT 3DS game that was needed to boost sales, even if it was released with the original DS graphics (although they really work hard to make them different form 4th gen and was one of the best looking games on DS).
Anyway, I dont want a main series game on Wii U simply because it would lose the charm of the series. I mean, this type of game doesn't suit a home console at all IMO. Genius Sonority is making a fine work with the battle series and if they just add compatibility with the handheld games and some RPG elements, it would make the next Pokemon game really great.

#39252 Should Nintendo make a Pokemon Snap 2

That will be really awesome, instead of making it on-rails, they could make specific areas again like Volcanoes or Valleys and let you control your character (which I would like to be Tom again), you could use your controller to point at the screen as if it were a camera and automatically get to FPS view (like they did with Other M) on the controller, while you can still view your character and move around on the TV. There are just so many ideas they can come up with. Another cool one is that since the controller has a mic (I think), you could use your voice to startle the pokemon by calling its name.
It would just be a must buy if something like this came to Wii U.

And I hope no one feels offended or isolated by this post in spanish.

So now the games I am looking forward to the most for 3DS are obviously Kingdom Hearts 3D, Pokemon "Gray" or "Chrome", Luigis Mansion 2, Mario Kart 7, ES Skyrim, Super Smash Bros. 4, GTA V(Recently Announced), Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter 4, Mario Tennis(if it is developed by Camelot) and many more!

I have a good feeling about Skyward Sword. Especially since it's taking a lot of what makes other Zelda games great and throwing them in a blender, while still adding it's own unique elements to the mix(at least that's the feeling I et from everything I learned fom E3. I have't looked at anything Skyward sword related since the Comic Con trailer. I want everything to be a surprise when I pop the game disk into my Wii this November).
Oh God you are so lucky, I don't have that type of strength to resist and I've already seen some videos, but at least I know nothing about the plot.

In my opinion all numbered final fantasy games are good, I started playing the DS remake of IV and I loved it, its just that some people don't like the changes that the series do on the new games. I think its because they liked VII, for example, and then they played XIII expecting the same.
Well, glad to meet you!

That's a beautiful signature you got there!
Yeah I know Majora's Mask was under appreciated, but there was just something on Wind Waker that made it so wonderful, it was a sort of hate-love story, since the first time I saw the screenshots on a magazine I hated it because I though it had kiddy graphics and was nothing like Ocarina of Time (oh boy I was SO wrong), so I rented it just for a day, and I just had to bought it the next day, I think I'm one of the few that actually enjoyed sailing. The bizarre nature of Majora's was really cool though, and the abilities were awesome. But who knows, can Skyward Sword take the precious place of Wind Waker for me? We are less than a month away!

From the moment I set eyes on the unveiling of the Wii U, even though so many people were skeptical (and still are), I knew it was going to be the cause of excitement for so many people, simply because of the possibilities it brings to the table. Definitely one of the consoles I have been most excited about in my life.
I'm sorry if I often make mistakes while writing, but being from another country my main language is spanish and I wont get mad if you point the mistakes I make, since that's one of the ways I can improve it. My first console was a N64 and my favorite game of all time is WInd Waker, followed by Fallout 3(don't know why I became so addicted to this game).
There are many things more I wish to say but since this is just my introduction, I'm happy to be welcomed to these forums.

Also in reply to giggitty3000, Iwata was just mentioning Zelda as an example, we all know Pikmin, F-Zero, Metroid and other series rely heavily on graphics so that both gameplay and presentation contribute to the experience.
