I highly recommend that people listen to Nintendo World Reports Telethon for Child's Play charity. It is a good cause and their content is great to listen to. Right now they are talking about Metroid Prime with a ex-Retro Developer. http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/sitenews/32097

closest competition mario kart ever had if you want to call it that was modnation racers and crash team racing those games were pretty fun but they were def no mariokart.
