DAMMIT, I require a TV to turn on the wii mode in Wii U. So you can't play Wii games on the Wii U gamepad without using the TV to boot it up.

    The HDMI cord is what prevents you from doing it with the TV off. Use the other cord with the censor bar and you should be able to. That's why 3Dude found out.

    Or, for convenience sake, jist use the gamepad to turn the tv on and off. The remote function is always available
