There has been a lot of talk aboot the ability to download GameCube games to the Wii U. But there has been an issue with that: the pressure-sensitive trigger of the GameCube controller. The Wii U controller, nor any Nintendo controller, except GameCube, does not have this feature. If the rumor of downloadable GameCube games is true, how will those games be played?

I have the following ideas:
  • GameCube controller (with some sort of adapter to allow connectivity with the Wii U)
  • An enhanced classic controller with pressure-sensitive triggers
  • The Wii U controller or Classic Controller [pro], removing the pressure-sensitive feature from the games

What do you think is going to happen?

I wish they had compatibilty with the original control. Oh well. I'd want the Wii U controller to be the one to be able to play those games. I don't want to buy anything. But I don't think that'll happen. Oh well.

I'm surprised so many people think that GameCube games should be played with a Wii U controller of Classic Controller... the pressure sensitive trigger are important in some games; Super Mario Sunshine is the only one I can think of. Not being able to control how much water flows out of F.L.U.D.D., or more importantly not being able to run while spraying (as holding the trigger all that way down would keep Mario in place) could seriously impact the gameplay.

They'll make a new controller. Though the Wii U controller will probably also be supported.

This. I think they will mainly focus on the Wii U controller though.

I agree with this. Not meaning to rude to the classic controller, but the Gamecube controller is so much better to hold

Games that refuse to use Gameplay effectively to do anything are like films that refuse to use cinematography in film to do anything.

Unless you add the extension for better grip on the Classic controller. Then it's somewhat equal, or at least for me.

I believe it has already been confirmed that there are no GameCube ports in the current design. There really isn't a reason to even use GameCube controllers if there are no GameCube games as Wii U controller is very similar as far as traditional controls go.

That obviously won't work. Wii games weren't designed to be played with Dual analogs, 4 face button, a d-pad, and 2 sets of trigger buttons. (Unless they were designed to work with classic controllers, but there aren't very many of those)

And we are talking about GameCube here.

Figure 1
This Controller is pressure sensitive, the Pro version however, is not.

Since not all people have this version it will probably be the Wii U controller instead.
Or they can re-release this version or make an updated version & support both.

They could make an adapter for the hdmi-looking port on the wiiUpad for use with a GCN controller. Then if you are playing a wii game, the wiiUpad works like a wireless reciever...thing..(dont know wat its called)

Nintendo are smart, they'll work it out, but my guess is that the Wii U controller will work, but there will also be the option for a new kind of controller that will be released after the Wii U comes out.
