I don`t know if MS will use the subscription model now. It could be useful if they need a price drop in the future without having to actually do one.

My guess is something from 400 to 500. Most likely using two models, with one at 400 and the other at 450.

If they go for 500 that will be really bad for them. Not as much if PS4 is in the same range.

They probably will or they will probably not.

I agree with you on 500 dollars being too much. The economy at the moment is in horrific shape, people won't be willing to throw 500 dollars away when they could use it more productively and intelligently.

In the US is was $300 for the Core, $400 for the premium.

Thanks. 300 is acceptable, but I'm not paying 500 for a console!

No sig.

Of course we poor Australians will have to suffer a much higher price tag, the WiiU is currently retailing for about $360 for the basic bundle and $420 for the premium. Im not sure how well the PS4 or 720 will fair based on prices.

Microsoft has been talking about subsidizing PC sales through a subscription plan attached to Windows for quite some time now, since Longhorn started development at least.  This is not out of the realm of possibility and if true would actually work in their favor.  Most people who own an XBOX already subscribe to LIVE, and this would actually make a value proposition out of the subscription fee by giving a rebate on hardware based on the subscription you were already going to buy.

But isn`t it also true that you end up paying more at the end? If true, not everyone is confortable with that.
I`m not saying that it can`t happen. I just think it may not be in MS`s best interest to do that with a product with which they will lose money for two years or so.
In that context, they will lose even more Money because they won`t be paid in full for the console and for the Live service.
As you said, people migrating from X360 will most likely adhere to Live anyway.

They probably will or they will probably not.

Truth is, things aren`t the same or better today than they were when the old gen went into the market. Things got worse and there`s more competition for gamer`s Money and attention. Even if that only means that gamers can wait for lower prices because they have other sources for enjoyment.

Microsoft has rainbowty first partys anyway, so the only way i would even consider buying a Xbox is if Nintendo fails to bring in more third party developers.

You end up paying more in the end, yes, but consider that the first 4ish years of LIVE service are actually free and you are paying $200 in installments on the hardware, just another way to look at it.  Most people are okay with this model, it's been the mobile model for two decades now.

All I see are rumors, after rumors, after more rumors... When are we going to get some god forsaken confirmations and facts? I'm pretty much tired of all of these bad rumors. I want to see the console itself and what Microsoft is offering. E3 needs to hurry up and put a rest to these rumors.

Yes, it`s another way. Well, it will really depend on the customer who wants to buy a Xbox 720 from the start.
But looking at the Xbox 360 (with Kinect) deal it really becomes a long term expense even if the first payment and monthly payments are smooth: 99$ + 2 years of Xbox live at 14.99 per month. Which in the turned out as: 99$ + 359.76 = 459.76$.

So basically you paid - taking into consideration the price of Xbox 360 4GB with Kinect, at the time (299$) of announcement -160.76$ more for the console.
Applying it to the new Xbox 720 you do save Money on Xbox live, BUT, it`s mandatory that you pay for it even if you don`t want it.

Basically, there`s a cheap model for hardcore gamers but no cheap solution for the rest of the market like kids or more casual gamers (i don`t mean non-gamers) who often play the hit titles of a generation like CoD.

After all the popularity of Xbox 360 in more recent years with CoD and Kinect, MS is basically closing the doors to those crowds.

Agreed, and I didn't know about the cost of that "deal".  I've paid ~$50 for Live per year for the last 10 years.

I didn`t know either! I only found out the real value to write my answer. :D

MS could aways opt and instead of offering live for the subscription model it could make a deal and offer a net flix subscription or something like that. I guess people would find that more attractive and probably wouldn`t mind paying the extra at the end of the deal.

What percentage do you suppose of current xbox 360 owners have the internet? I'm assuming a very high percentage. Given that, I would not be surprised to see the nextbox do VERY well. What if they let your friends list transfer over to the nextbox? Even more guarantee that it'll do well. I think people are underestimating Microsoft. Do they have shady business practices? Probably. Do they nickel and dime you to death like EA? Yep. They're also an INSANELY successful business.

What percentage of it will always have Internet when they want to play in the console's life time? How many countries have 100% working Internet 100% of the time? Do you even realise how they narrowed down the potential consumer base?
