I know he isn't the CEO... that's why I said "I know he is on the gaming side of things" but he definitely has a tremendous amount of pull within Nintendo... and if he was absolutely against the Wii U, it wouldn't exist.
Maybe he should try branching out from the Mario umbrella and try a new IP... something groundbreaking... something as big as Mario was in the 80's. That is what is will take to make Nintendo a serious player in the gaming landscape again
It has been confirmed in multiple interviews with him that he is working on a new IP with a lot of new Nintendo employees. He's basically taking them under his wing, teaching them how to make new IP's, and making them good. I'll try to find an interview now...
Here's one link I found

Miyamoto doesnt need to go anywhere, Iwata does
I agree with you.
Iwata has given us false promises. He's responsible for why the 3DS was in the state it was in and why the Wii U is in the state it is in right now. Iwata I believed said he would resign from Nintendo by the end of the year, if things don't look "positive".
I'm not bashing Iwata because I "hate" him, I'm bashing him due to the obvious fact he shouldn't run Nintendo anymore. He's simply lost sight of what games truly want.

I don't understand why Iwata needs to go. I mean...because of him, Wii is their best selling home system ever, and Nintendo DS is the best selling console in history. Heck, look at Nintendo 3DS, it's at 30 million right now and Pokémon X/Y and Monster Hunter 4 aren't even released yet. He has literally made money flow through the company. I think you guys aren't giving the Wii U enough time. I'm pretty sure Xbox 360 and PS3 had this problem when it was launched. Wii U is also a powerful system. PS4 is at most 3x Wii U. That's nothing like 20x Wii to PS3. The power gap is much smaller. As for third-party games competing with Nintendo's first-party, Ubisoft is releasing their games on Wii U. But I haven't actually made my point yet; it will compete because developers need to put in more effort into making their games. Monster Hunter 3 on Wii has sold a lot because of this. People were actually interested in it. As for multiplats, developers could supposedly put some exclusive Wii U features (I honestly don't know about this), but I believe in Iwata that he could iron these problems out.

Iwata said he would resign if they don't end the year with 100Bn Yen in operating income, I think. The Yen situation might turn that on its head though.

Miyamoto IS Nintendo.
False. According to Wikipedia:
"Nintendo Co., Ltd. (任天堂株式会社 Nintendō Kabushiki gaisha?) is a Japanese multinational consumer electronics company headquartered in Kyoto, Japan."

he has lost touch with the gamer. he has promised many things and all we get is apologies from him saying it was not his intention for things to go the way they did. he needs to step down.

As I was saying we need someone younger and more in touch with general audience.

As for why does the Wii U have the GamePad, what would you have proposed as an alternative? Without the GamePad then the Wii U has nothing unique to offer, hardware wise.
The second screen is part of the "in every living room" strategy. Sure, lots of people have several consoles in different rooms with their own TVs, at least in the US. However the Wii U is not about the US, its about a global strategy. For people who DO only have a single TV in the house off-screen play becomes REALLY useful, its just a shame its not mandatory.
So while personally I would have preferred the Wii U to be more powerful at the cost of NOT having the touchscreen GamePad, I can see the logic behind offering something unique.
