,Some guy said this, and I think he hit the nail on the head:
PK Wonder said "Honestly, I think this is good news, and
here's why: Nintendo is going to focus on games
throughout the timeframe, and doesn't
have to limit itself to a one-hour
presentation on a stage, where two other
presentations from their competitors will
be showing off two brand new consoles. Nintendo gets multiple chances to show
everything they're going to be doing right;
the major games will be available to play
at the show, and there will be a
discussion specifically with investors to
encourage them. They also get to have one or more Nintendo Directs aimed
specifically at us, the American audience.
Iwata also didn't clearly say they weren't
going to have some sort of stage-show.
He just said it's going to be non-
traditional and spread out. I'm sure there will be dozens of trailers popping up all
over the Internet. We don't have to worry
about the Usher, lame dance games,
cheesy family playing games, playing
with books, thirty minutes of fitness, lame
motion games, and shaking wands that all three of Big Three are guilty of."

Also, @Blade of Dyna, I hope your name on NintendoLife is datamonkey, or you just stole his thoughts.

No, but it's rather rude to call someone else's thoughts your own without even quoting them.

“As you’ve already seen, a lot of news about Nintendo games and services that traditionally would be held until E3 is being delivered this year through Nintendo Directs, and various press events. This approach will continue between now and E3. No matter where you are in the world, you’ll be fully informed. We look forward to continuing to provide you with Nintendo news and content in ways you haven’t before experienced. Beyond the news that will be communicated through Nintendo Direct videos in the run up to E3, at the show itself we’re hosting two smaller events on Tuesday morning before the LACC opens instead of just our traditional one event. A media event and a partner presentation will both occur that morning. While the audiences will be different between the two events, both will occur on the Tuesday morning of E3 (June 11) which is the date and time period the public has come to expect for Nintendo to deliver E3 news.

At the Nokia theater we’ll meet with business partners (retailers, publishers, analysts, etc.) from the NOA territory and discuss our plans for driving the business and providing tailored information that this group finds useful to their operations. Nintendo has done these same type of business meetings at past E3 shows, but has not in the past few years. This year we are returning to that business partner meeting format. New this year at our booth in the LACC, prior to the show opening, we’ll invite a small group of media to play our games. We will have a strong line-up of beloved franchise experiences available for immediate hands-on play. We are continuing to consider exciting new ways to bring the news of our games and information directly to the players at home during the E3 timeframe, and will have more to say about that at a later date.”

How exactly?

Microsoft and Sony's E3's are probably going to be big because they have new consoles to show. NIntendo just needs to show loads of must have games and blow peoples minds but if they take this approach they probably won't.

Think about what the hour long presentation is usually focused on.  Most of the time much of that hour is spent with market statistics, very little of it is spent on games.  They are taking the investor relations stuff, putting that in a different meeting with investors, they are taking the distribution related stuff, and talking about it with distributors.  Then they are taking the software announcements, and splitting them up to make separate pitches, one to fans, and one to non fans (or several to each, i dunno).  This means that all of the information they present to us will be about games, not statistics, and not stuff we care little about (but will learn about anyway through news aggregates and leaks) but glorious games.

Cut all the unnecessary fat and give us GAMES. Nintendo's approach this year sounds smart. They can pretty much feed us their info any way they want. They can do one big Direct and focus on multiple titles or they can present multiple Directs that focus on one specific title at a time. It's all up to them. Companies don't have this luxury when it comes to their E3 conferences. There's not enough time to really focus on each title you have. Imagine if we get a Direct for Mario 3D.....or one for Mario Kart...or Zelda:WW HD, Retro's game, X, SSB, etc... One ND for each game. That would be amazing! I'm open to this approach as I believe it'll allow Nintendo to really connect with the gamer and present details that would otherwise be passed up at an E3 conference.

But they are still showing there games. They are going to E3. They just won't have one big show. This way they might actually do better then last year.

As long as the games shown at the Nintendo Direct are shown to the media. That's what matters most.
