looks great, but the wii upscale still shows. starting to wonder if lighting is fix function. pikmin lighting doesnt take into account time of day in any of the above pictures, same with X footage... other than that the game looks great.


That's interesting. It looks to me that Pikmin has some kind of global lighting going on. But wouldn't be surprised if they had completely written the code for that yet. Even unreal 4 for ps4 is tossing that out the window for now.

And I think you mean prebuilt lighting. Not fixed function. Fixed function is sims a hardwired effect that you can turn on and off. You are probably referring to light sourcing, blending, refraction, and shadows, no?

sourcing+shadows mostly, dont know the names of the effect well. as for code not being written, well this far in and ruffly 1 month from going gold then its something they need to start now/soon. i dont see how slowly moving the direction of the sun would be hard, the color i can see adding some load but not much.

 

i still hope we end up seeing caves or something similar at some point.

Because this is a wii switch up, which would obviosly have shadows completely baked into the diffuse layer of the texture, they would likely have to completely redo every single texture tile made for the game instead of just using the high res/not compressed assets. Having real time.l shadows mixing with prebaked like that would end up looking super bizarre. They likely simply just didnt want to redo all that work.

Think once a demo is released we will really see what's going on. Screens only do so much. But the screens you provided 3Dude are impressive.

Those are cave bulborbs dude (love the new effect they have for native cave creature eyes, the kind of eyes that are never exposed to sunlight, spot on), and the light shrooms only appear in caves.

I have a feeling Pikmin 3 will be THE graphical experience to own, literally the next Crysis 1 for PC.
