Posting this from Wii U, so kinda limited right here, but apparently Retro had the decision to make DKC or Metroid, but went with Tropical Freeze. Good to know Metroid is atleast a consideration. Who's to say it ain't coming now?

So they're making a metroid after DKCTF?
Well, I've finally found my Starfox, and I love it.

Good decision. Donkey Kong needed a good game to bring back the old DKC 1-3 feeling. Some people considered those the greatest SNES games of all time.

Yea but 3D Donkey Kong would've been nice. No offense but 2D games are easier to make than 3D. They probably just used DKCR's engine.
On the bright side, the game is looking good considering purchasing this.

I would have to argue with that, 2D and 3D platforming is drastically different. 2D tends to focus more on speed and pure platforming. 3D is not as fast and requires more exploration and a depth to things.
The challenge in 2D platformers is the challenging raw platforming. 3D is constructed differently and feels like it includes an ascent in all levels (to some tower or mountain).

I would have prefered Metroid over DKCTF. We need a new one.
DKCTF looks like a good game, though. If they made a 3D DK game (*cough* spiritual sequel to DK64 *cough*) then I would have been more satisfied

What worries me is that they didn't consider a new IP. Retro Studios would be the perfect developer to create an IP that would entice the gamers on PS4.

HD amazing Metroid = System seller
2D side scroller DK = decent game that I might pick up for $30 down the track and play maybe 5 times

Well, the game looks amazing. I was crushed when I saw it though, and kept thinking that it had to be developed by someone else. However, maybe Metroid is getting special treatment, or at least, special time treatment, after the last game destroyed Samus (I now understand why Nintendo characters never talk).
That said, game is pre-ordered and looks like a blast. The 3d elements look like an interesting element to add into the series.

a hd metroid would have blown people out of the park, its what people who arnt into nintendo needed to see... not another platformer.

Considering they have or will have- Mario Kart, Mario Bros. Luigi, Mario 3D, Smash Bros.- maybe a different genre would have been nice.

While I would prefer a new Starfox title, the new DK games looks really fun. And is it just me, or does "Tropical Freeze" sound like some $58 rum cocktail they'd sell in Honolulu resort?

I would say donkey kong was better choice as it has sold so much better than metroid in the past.

I think you are seriously underestimating Donkey Kong. First of all, he is a more iconic character/franchise than Samus/Metroid. Second of all DKC is played by everyone: old gamers, new gamers "casual" gamers, "core" gamers etc.
Donkey Kong Country is definitely a system seller. As Mourn said they're considered by many to be the best games on SNES and we all know Returns is the best platformer on Wii.
