Not sure how reliable my data is, but I heard it was beyond 3 million after the e3 conference.

I think it's a lot more simple.

Wii-U hardware sales.

/thread

If the Wii-U sold more, it would get more 3rd party titles. It's honestly that simple.

It has to have the attach rate, or it will get shovel ware. It needs hardware sales to people who buy software, but that software needs to be worth buying.

It's money. It's not system specs.

It's competition from Nintendo.

And it has been that way since the N64 days.

The Gamecube came out swinging, scoring a KO over PS2 and a draw with the Xbox.

And it had no real third party support.

I can't stand Reggie. He talks funny, thinks too much of himself, and rarely has anything truthful or meaningful to say that isn't spin.

BUT... he said something truly great this week to developers worried about game sales (used or otherwise). MAKE BETTER GAMES!!!

If they put the effort in, it will show.  And people will buy it.

That's why Nintendo makes bank on their games.  They make great games.

That's why Bungie banks.  they make great games.

It's why people are excited about X. Monolithsoft (love that name. LOL) puts the time and effort in.

Look at the Division.  that game is going to sell.  why? Because it's a well crafted game.

Forza sells.  Because it's a very well crafted game.

Final Fintasy USED to sell.  Because it was so well crafted.

On the Xbox, developers are competing with MS Studios.  so they know they can easily overcome that.

On PS4, it's the same thing.

On any Nintendo console, things are a little different.  when a Nintendo game launches, people want the Nintendo game.

Of course, all this can be mitigated with staggering the launch schedules, but they don't want to do that when it conflicts with launches on other systems.

Basically, there are a lot of politics and Nintendo doesn't "play sorority games" like the others do.

Really, because the launch of the Wii U had a bunch of great 3rd party games that weren't watered down, but look at what sold. It was Mario, and Nintendo Land. We're lucky we're even getting the watered down versions of games at this point.

The fact that cod blops 2 and me3 are not supported with dlc turns a bunch of people away from buying those multiplats in wii u

If nintendo is not gonna bother much with third party they should make more first party titles.

There's too much EA references on this topic. You can't take EA as a valid example since what they've been doing since the Wii U's release. These half-games EA has made and released are not representative of Nintendo's third party situation.

Nintendo has handed third parties 2 system launches with virtually no first party competition. I am talking about 3ds and Wii U. They did not make the most of it, and both times it has cost Nintendo dearly.

If they concentrated on one game per genre, maybe 2, and made them from the ground up, they could all make money. Imagine if they did this for Wii and DS?

Third parties really need a different model for Nintendo. Some ports if they can fit it to the platform, and unique versions that come at different times. Obviously less is more.

Because most gamers think Nintendo's for kids. :(
