I don't get it, it's Kingdom Hearts, what's the problem?

Jokes.

Square Enix have been iffy for a little while, not announcing whether or not Dragon Quest X will come outside of Japan and their endless insistence on IOS and Android ports baffle me.

But yeah, the Wii U can easily run Kingdom Hearts 3, just like any other game I saw at E3.

Bring the noise.

It doesnt do anything to graphics to make them better. Quite opposite really, its all about convenience at the expense of quality. What a system has a system has and no version of dx can change that.

DX is just a microsoft made graphics application programming interface, or api. Its basically a library that contains a bunch of graphical effects so that you dont have to make them yourself, but merely call on them. Direct3D/X frees the game programmer from accommodating the graphics hardware.

Obviously, microsoft is only going to make 1 version at a time, and not make a bunch of different versions to suit the individual needs of different architectures. Which is why open gl used to make direct x look like a joke. A bad joke.

Microsoft tackled the open gl problem with money. Lots and lots and lots of money. The end result is now most hardware is designed to accomodate dx. A very backwards and stupid notion.

However, we now have several generations of programmers who only know how to use dx, and dont actually know how to create proprietary graphics from scratch. The fruit of microsofts labours throughout the 90's.

Hence the statements at hand.

Ok, so OpenGL can do everything that DirectX can, it's just not as convenient for developers. But the PS4 and Wii U both have OpenGL, so this is just Square nkt wanting to develop for anything other than x86.

OpenGL comes with basically all of the same shaders and fragments with different monikers.  OpenGL is the standard used on every device on the planet, including PC's running Windows, while DirectX is used only for Microsoft based systems.  DirectX isn't any easier or better than OpenGL, just more used because most game development is done on PC.

The thing is, game engines themselves arent DX11 or even OpenGL, those are the feature sets available, but the actual game engines are typically capable of using a wide range of feature sets.  So even if the Wii U GPU did in fact only support DX10.1 equivilent features, that is of little issue because the majority of features can be substituted.  Can you imagine if someone who bought a top of the line DX10.1 GPU a few years ago couldnt play DX11 games today?  You might be missing some of the fancy new shaders and effects, but the majority of things will remain the same or very similar.  The Cry 3 Engine and even the Frostbite 3 engine can all run just fine with DX9 GPU's.  If game engines required the DX11 feature set, then that wouldnt be the case.  These are the latest and greatest engines, and there is little issue tailoring them to work on an older feature set.  Instead of having DX11 effects, your going to use DX9 effects in there place.

Or you can... You know, actually write your own effects for the hardware. The overdependancy on these shortcuts is manufacturing a crippling lack in basic fundamentals.

Which was exactly microsofts plan against the open graphics library.

Unfortunately this mentality is nothing new.  The Gamecube and Wii required you to do that using the TEV, but very few developers actually did.

Sad sad sad. :(

And the consumer doesn't even care.

I always wanted the first games in the series to come to Wii. I would so have bought them and an accessory to make my wiimote look like a keyblade. Would have been so much fun to swing that sucker around and break everything in my room. Wish they would at least give us the HD collections for wii u. If Kojima can get away with putting the HD collection for MGS on 360 without MGS4 than why not screw us on KH III but still troll us with HD collection? Here I stand, ready to be trolled.

I wonder would Sqaure rethink their decision once the Wii U's install base improves?

More proof the Wii U should have been more powerful.

Never going to get 3rd party support if this keeps happening every gen, build another GameCube Nintendo.
