Well, it's good that you're being reasonable about it and not just another "Apple knows best" type of consumer. Kudos to you sir.
edit: I don't like macs for two reasons. 1. I refuse to support a company that is fascist in their control of their product and give me 100 percent control and 2. the lack of support for gaming compared to pc.
I'll give you the second point. Even though you can run windows on the Mac. Though the hardware is there, gaming hasn't been Apples forte. Steve jobs hated gamin. But things are changing. ESP. After apple has seen huge revenues coming from mobile games. A Direct X type API would be great. But who knows about that.
I was a windows guy personally and professionally and worked in IT right out of college before deciding a more creative computing career was what I was made for. I used to make fun of macs, though I'd never used one. Then a close friend went Mac. They showed me how simple it was to do things compared to windows. And the workstations I had people rebooting during their lunch breaks in order to minimize crashes during critical work sessions-not the macs. So I bought one to see what the fuss was about. In about one month, I had felt deprived all those years. Almost any software on windows you can find native for Mac. Often times the superior version. Or equivalent. Next thing you know, everyone wants to work on a Mac. The video editors, the accountants, the art teams, the web guys, the modelers, everyone. So we created a performance incentive program. They earned they macs. And I have to say they didn't need one eighth the support the pcs did. Nor the reboots, etc. we ran antivirus on them, but they never needed them. It was mostly so that email attachments containing viruses sent to us by people using windows could be cleaned before we forwarded them (can't be blamed for viruses in attachments we didn't create now can we?). Some folks still chose to work on PC. It's cool. It kept me working a little more. But it's good to stay sharp. Lol. Just a personal story.
But the first one I LOL'd a bit. It's basically an opinion and a philosophy. But we are all entitled to that and I do the same thing. I refuse to buy samsung for shamelessly copying and refuse to invest in Google for stealing ideas out od boardrooms and for their still unaccounted for theft of Sun Microsystems code (verbatim, for i dont know how many lines of code). I also refuse to support Xbox one based on principle as well. Even though they changed their tune, I have a huge problem with the fact that they tried their hardest to foist one of the most draconian schemes on consumers since adobe made the creative suite a mandatory subscription... Lol. The thing that stinks is that I HAVE to use adobe for some of my work. And no one makes those tools as good as they do.
I think it takes a very high level of perfectionism to make products as great as apple does and part of the "control" they exercise is what keep their systems more secure than their competitors (though not perfect. It is man-made product after all) and to make sure the Mac "just works." You'd be surprised how many times someone tinkers with the registry on windows or e terminal on Mac and then blames the ensuing problems on the computer maker.
I am a bit confused by the term "control" though since macs give you access to the Unix underpinnings via the Terminal and you can do just about anything with that.
Then there is the choice of OS as well. You can run Windows. natively.
Unless you mean IOS. That's more of a closed system. Though it seems more open than Windows Mobile. And Android being rooted doesn't seem to offer many abilities beyond jail breaking an iPhone. Maybe changing home screen icon layouts? Of course Android app launch layouts seem to need all the help they can get.
Unless there is something I'm not thinking of.
There's a good reason everyone tries to copy them. I'm giving credit where it's due. I've supported ms software for years. Once I went Mac, I was like "why the heck doesn't MS do this." Apparently it's a hard act to follow. Steve ballmer said years ago they want to do what apple does.
But there are times when the price point doesn't work or you just don't personally care for a certain company. That's the great thing about having more than one to choose from.
Didn't realize I'd stir up some anti-apple sentiment by suggesting a Mac. It was just a suggestion that I thought would be helpful.
