Just before Sony's E3 press conference, analyst Michael "Frog Touch" Pachter predicted a practical no-show for the PS Vita. He wasn't too wrong about that, either. The analyst went further than that, however, declaring the system dead. 

"Sure there will be the occasional game, but the market's dominated by smartphones, 3DS, Vita's too hardcore," he told GameTrailers. "Sony will try to revitalize Vita, but it'll fall flat."

Pachter also said Sony's desire to have the PS Vita work as a companion device to the PlayStation 4 will fail, stating that while Sony may want that, he doesn't think it matters, advising users to "just buy an extra controller" if they want multiplayer experiences, and writing the system off as a "gimmick."

"Nobody cares about playing the Vita on a train," he declared. 

There's no denying Sony disappointed with its PS Vita efforts on Tuesday, delivering little more than the same vague promises we've been hearing for over a year. I want to believe Sony's more dedicated to the handheld, but until I see proof, I'm not biting. I fear instead, Sony will just believe its ability to stream PS4 games will be enough of a library and leave it at that.

 

Maybe they should have made Sony puppys to make the thing sell.

 

Well, he gets alot of hate but I agree with him, the Vita has been out for a year and a half and there's nothing to buy besides watered down PS3 ports, never any killer exclusive. gamers say the Wii U is dead but its only been out for roughly 9 months and the games are coming this holiday and 2014 that I'm really exited about, like X.

An original Metal Gear Solid game needs to come to the Vita right now. MGS4 saved the PS3, Portable Ops and Peace Walker made the PSP worth getting, and MGS2 made the PS2 something more than just a DVD player.

I find it funny how Pachter declaring the Vita dead doesn't make it to any major gaming journalism sites (IGN as an example) yet anytime he says something against Nintendo, the press is all over it.

1. Because he's telling us the obvious here The PSVita is already dead, we already know that, hum telling us that isn't news, while when he bashed Nintendo there's no evidence to suggest the Wii U will die or the 3DS will sink.

2. Bearly anyone cares about the PSVita so you don't really have any audience to tell this too, while if he bashes Nintendo then almost all the Nintendo fans who see it will read it and start fan wars. Making it news worthy.

Haha, maybe. This guy has a knack of predicting precisely the opposite of what's actually going to happen.

I literally just bought a Vita this Saturday, lol. A cheap ($200) one from a Pawn Shop, but it was in mint condition. Like... Literally, mint condition box and everything. Sort of wondering if I bought a hot system. >_>

 

The shocking part is that I mostly just wanted it for the free games from PlayStation Plus that stacked up over time, but looking further into the games, there's enough here to keep me going for a good year plus - Games that are already out, even (No worrying about delays like on Wii U)! Even if the Vita flipped over dead at this very moment, never getting anymore titles, I think I can say that what is here makes it well worth it. 

 

I don't agree with what he says here specifically, though I also saw a quote elsewhere from him that said something along the lines of, "People don't know that they want a Vita, but the people who do own one love it. The issue is that the system isn't making it into the former's hands." That, I completely agree with.

 

Edit: Though mine came with an 8GB card - I'm sure this outlook wouldn't be so bright if it only had the 4GB. I'm already full and playing the fridge-clearing game, and I've only got a few games.

Lol I'll be glad to support the Vita as soon as it comes out with more games I can't already get on PS3. Oh, and they drop the price of the memory. That stuff is just insane.

Bought a Vita in 2011 for 90 bucks only played 5 games so far lol.

I haven't played them all yet, though the games I'm looking at/playing are as follows:

 

Gravity Rush - Playing it now, and it's pretty fun. Kind of feels like Infamous with the open-world.

Uncharted - Not the biggest fan of the genre, but I've got it free from Plus, so I look forward to giving it a shot.

Persona 4 Golden - Constant praise, must be worth trying out.

LittleBigPlanet Vita - Console-levels of LBP on the go? Yes. Please. (PSP version was ridiculously weak.)

Lumines: Electronic Symphony - Again, I see a bunch of praise for it. Looks pretty fun, so it deserves a place on the list.

New Little King's Story - It looks and has been compared to Pikmin. I think anything compared to Pikmin deserves a play. 

 

These are just off the top of my head, and are all PS Vita only games. Going into a list of multi-console games and PS1 Classic I could easily triple that number. 

 

I'm a total sucker for handhelds though, so, yeah. Give me a weaker Handheld game over powerful Console any day.

I recommend Resistance and Gravity Rush.

I play my vita almost every day, and it's not like I don't have other things to play, I have pretty much every video games machine since the commodore 64

Nice that there's finally some good news for the Vita but I don't really care much either way.
