When I preordered my 3DS it was priced at 9999 NOK which is like 1800 USD. The price was changed to 2300 NOK when Nintendo announced the retail prices on the 19th of January

So nothing to worry about here. It is a Nintendo console after all.

I am going with my initial idea of $299.99-$349.99 until they announce something, but they could take an Xbox 360 route and come out with multiple versions like a pro, arcade, and regular versions that could cost a vary of prices, but that isn't something Nintendo is known to do.

-Is there any price you would not go over? I would not pay for the system until I see what MS and Sony are doing... But if I were to buy it at launch no more than $350.
-Do Nintendo's next consoles have to be more media friendly to justify prices? I suppose, for the western market.

Now if you think about it you are comparing tech prices of 2006 to tech prices to now. A HD tv in 2006 was about $2000 for a 42 inch and a 3D HD tv of the same size is just over $1000 today. Wii price of $250 now if you estimate that the Wii was underpowered at that time so I have to guess around $300-350. Simple economics.
