You haven't responded on your topic about that. I agree with Gamecollector check out the thrift store's in your area and pick the ones that look the best to you and you could post them on your topic.

RIght now I would probably save up to $500 at least for the Wii U. If it is cheaper than I will be able to get myself some games.

thrift? and I thought I had :S I said that I was gonna go look as soon as I think I have enough for one :P

anyway, back on-topic- I'll also need a game for it aswell, I hadn't thought about that until now XD

There is nothing actually that expensive in the Wii U. It doesn't have the huge cost of a hard drive, high density read only optical drives now are pretty cheap, the screen in the pad is a low resolution screen cheap as chips. The overall package looks more impressive than the actual parts it contains. It doesn't appear to require any licensing or royalties for playing blurays or dvds. It could actually cost less to make than ps3 and even a hard drive based 360. However I still think Nintendo will push the price up as high as they think they can get away with. At the end of the day if it can offer a more impressive game experience than the earlier consoles through clever design then it will warrant a premium above them. With regard UK price if I was being ridiculously optimistic I would say £199, realistic £249-279 and negative perhaps £299-349. I think at anything close to £300 or above it will be a complete disaster over here and could destroy the chances of the Wii U. PS3 was £425 at launch over here and it just handed the market over the Microsoft for a while. Launching at £300 plus when the 360 and PS3 now exist sub £200 and sometimes close to £100 in the case of the non hard drive 360 would be ridiculous.

Even if the Wii U was realistically 3x more powerful than either PS3 or 360 the wii U is going to get a lot of ports that aren't going to harness this power and in the real world the games aren't going to look much better. Its clear the similar architecture of the 360 and Wii U is going to mean very similar games with possibly many not enhanced for the Wii U apart from perhaps 1080p output. The 360 cleverly has a 1080p upscaler built in anyway that will negate some of the wii U's visual advantage. I must admit I'm not convinced myself that the Wii U will be 3x as powerful. Even the latest revisions of Xbox Slim and PS3 Slim need extensive cooling and they are larger than the Wii U. I don't see how a much smaller console can achieve much more power without more aggressive cooling even if the fabrication of the chips are reduced to next year's level. I'm expecting the gpu to be weaker than many people are expecting even if the cpu performance is a class above 360 and PS3.

The big issue is if Microsoft announce at 2012 E3 a much more powerful console it will effect interest in Wii U which I think they plan to do.

Nintendo is now starting to realize that they can't afford to make huge profits anymore. If the 3DS would have still cost $249 today, then the Big N would probably be losing retailers, developers, and most importantly, customers. In my opinion, Nintendo was being extremely arrogant by pricing their handheld at $250 ($50 more than its biggest competitor, the iPod Touch, mind you). One would hope that Nintendo would learn from its mistakes and charge the Wii U at a reasonable price. $249-$279.

The Wii U will definitely be more than $30 above the 3DS launch price. It's way too much of a powerhouse to be that low.

My idea: $299-$329.

My guess is 299$ - 399$. Nintendo knows that it can't be too high (599 US Dollars anyone?), but it also can't be too low because it will mean less power = no solid next gen console.

Anyway, if they stay at that price, the PS4 and Xbox 720 will have to be more expensive to beat that hardware, and it will be too expensive and they will fail.
Fanboys who says that it will be beaten by PS4 and Xbox 720 easily are wrong, it will be too expensive, so as long Nintendo makes it somewhere between 300-400 they will be just fine.

Anything over $300 would be ridiculous. Here's why:

SNES was originally $199, and the Genesis (its biggest rival) cost the same price. The SNES was more powerful than the Genesis.
N64 was $199, and the Playstation was $299 at launch. The N64 was more powerful than the Playstation.
Gamecube was $199, and the PS2 was $299 at launch. The Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2.

Now, if the rumors are true that the Wii U is anywhere from 50%-500% more powerful than a PS3, that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be the most expensive console. Nintendo has never had the most expensive console on the market. Sony learned from the PS3 that consumers won't pay $500 for technology that won't mature for another 3 years. Microsoft knows that the lowest they'll go on a console launch is $299. This means that Nintendo will NOT have a $300 launch price, because they strive for the lowest price (and when they don't-3DS, anyone?-they suffer badly). This leaves my final guesstimate at anywhere from $250-$280.

I think it will be around $400, because of the added touch screen controller.
It's like handheld+console

Well I have heard a rumour from someone who's brother works for a big game developer and he told me the the price in the UK will be £250-299....Of course I can't say this is definite...but his brother has worked for this company for many years on Xbox,360 and PS2,PS3 software and they working on Wii-U now too.
The Wii-U looks great and is...but its not really next gen.A lot of it is of the shelf parts that have been around a while.
The days of massive profits are over (for now) and adaptability is the name of the game.
My friend did stress this is a rumour within the company but I think this sounds about right.

It wouldn't overly surprise me if PS4 is heavily based on off the shelf parts with their direction with PS Vita, but I highly doubt this will be the case with Nintendo's Wii U. Its highly unlikely that the final chips will be off the shelf parts especially with Nintendo's history. Early dev kits often are made using off the shelf parts, but early dev kits don't usually represent final components. First, second, and maybe even third generation dev kits for Wii U no doubt use off the shelf parts, but the final components will be heavily customized.

Another point to consider is, what happens when you try to have multiple tablets on your wii u?. I mean, just look at any tablet price, they go from $200 up, so getting the console plus a bunch of controllers could literally cost a fortune.

400 is the magic number. anything over that and you have a problem... anything under that and you have a good deal. i couldn't see nintendo going over 400. this console has the satisfy a lot of demands. the economy isn't good right now. truth is a lot of the next gen(microsoft and sony) will depend on how well the Wii U does. if it comes out at good price point with good above this gen graphics and sells well.... microsoft and sony will be dummies to try and bring out a high spec expensive console and expect people to choose that over Wii u( excluding the fanboys).

It'll be over $300 and below $450. Anywhere between those two figures.

It must be hanging around $400, it's a fair compromise to start with between those figures..

It could be in their advantage to either offer $389 or $419 too! For either setting quality, or competitive price structure etc..I know things are cheaper in exchange over in the US, so at the very cheapest, I cannot see them offering Wii U for any less than $349.99. But what do I know on the retail business in the US?

[EDIT] It would be similar with the pound, as it hangs around the £250 mark..but it would be unlikely they would offer Wii U lower than £250..so my guess is around £260..can't do no better than that really! Probably will be a lot more. Always ends up that way! Playstation 3 is now £199.99 here..doubt that will drop any further any time soon. That's ridiculous!

I already knew that. I was making a joke. Lower the price, raises the demand, lowers the supply, raises the mad employees that aren't getting paid
