...There's a LBPKart? The heck. I just got a PS3 for Xmas that was bundled with LBP2. I don't even know if I managed to play over an hour on it. I don't get the hype. :/ It feels like Mario but without a goal. (I don't even really like Mario much, but I do enjoy platformers. Such as Klonoa.) Does it just have a slow start?

Anyways to be on topic. Around $350 sounds like a fair price but I was hoping for closer to $300. Just means I need to save my money a little more carefully. Hopefully the games don't reach $60 but with the price of 3DS games it seems likely. :/

Alright don't feed the trolls.

Hey, should we make a little contest? Just for fun. We could guess the price, and the person(s) closest to it wins. :D

Personally I think it's going to cost $299 in the US, ¥25,000 in Japan, £249 in the UK and €300 in the EU. I think $299 is the sweet spot and any price above that it will struggle. Of course the actual prices will depend on exchange rates at the time. I very much doubt it will be $350 or any price over $299 in the US.

30,000 Yen
350 USD
350 EUR

Despite 350 USD being 270 EUR right now, and 30,000 yen being 280 EUR.

I'd imagine the Wii U would be around $600-$700, seeing that price was around the first Wii's price, plus a bit more for the new techology that was put into the Wii U.

^ wut, no USD right?

ALRIGHT NEW ANALYSIS. It's a shame no-one reads this topic again. It's one of the most interesting things to speculate about, Wii U-wise.

So I've been researching past console prices, and not just Nintendo's. For example, the Xbox and Xbox 360 both launched at a price of 300USD. And I remember, they both were new and 'mindblowing' technology back then. So a price from 300 or just slightly higher should be enough for the Wii U to have 'next-gen' tech. Also, the 360 is selling for 200USD now. So Nintendo could already release a console that is on-par with current-gen for just $200. So in short, my Xbox research fits with my hypotesis that the Wii U should be around $350 with next-gen tech and a modern controller.

For Nintendo analysis: The NES, SNES, N64 and GC ALL released for just a mere 200 dollars! The Wii is their most expensive console, with a launchprice of $250, but currently selling for also 200. Aside from the Wii, all these consoles had 'new tech' and they were not expensive. So that mean the Wii U should not be that expensive either, using next-gen tech and stuff. 300 - 350 again seems likely for Wii U.

Lastly, Wii launched for 250. DS launched for 150 (in my country at least). That's a difference of 100 euros. 3DS launched for 250, so if the 100 euro difference is to stay, the Wii U should be 350 euros.

Conclusion: the Wii U will be not too expensive, with a likely pricerange from 300-350 USD/Euros.

That's just plain false.

Entertainment enthusiasts wanting Blu-ray players also spend 599 US Dollars on consoles.

Many people I know of would much rather pay more for a more capable console that will be enjoyed for 6 years or so. You get what you pay for. The wii launched at $250 and it was largely a GameCube but with gyros added. By then, GameCube was $49. So clearly, Nintendo rolled in the cash.

$450 would be a sweet spot for the wii u.

But Nintendo is obsessed with price.

I imagine they are shooting for $350-$399.

$450 for a new console with the power of wii u and that revolutionary controller is a good deal.

I am going to say the Wii U will be between $300-$400. If it is anything more, I think I will be a hard sell to the mass market.
Mass Market: Why would I need a Wii U, I already have a Wii?

I'm putting my vote in at 379.99 CAD. It's not as daunting as 400 but it's close enough. Since they won't be dropping the price they'll be driving it as low as they can. However they're reluctance to give a release date at e3 may be because with a release date you must reveal a price and they may be worried that their price is high enough to defer hype. 379.99 would defer some.

the price will be over, under, or at $400.00 but it should not be ps3 or xbox 360 price when they first came out

If they wan't uber high success it's got to be under $400 preferably under $350. The question is do we sacrifice power for cost affordability?
