It's in HD and there is online multiplayer, it's not like there isn't any difference.

You could apply that very same argument to Wind Waker HD. (Probably not the $20 but you get what I mean)

Yeah but WW is over ten years old.

Who really cares about the "HD" part? The original game looked fine to me.

And the online... how many people that own a Wii U are actually gonna spend money to play online on a six year old game?

You underestimate the power of Wii Bowling.

I don't really see your point about WW. It's still a HD remake of an old game with minimal additions.

And no offense but you're making quite the assumption by implying no one cares about HD visuals and that no one is going to buy the game. In fact there are a number of people in this thread who have expressed an interest in purchasing some of the sports because of the online aspect.

You can buy wii sports for 20 bucks NEW...

Same as with every game.
I loved Wii sports boxing and tennis, will enjoy pwning all you noobs over my internet connection.

Out of all the titles to pick to make an HD version they pick this?!? Dumb move Nintendo. People already have Nintendo Land.

Kinda tempted to pick up bowling and tennis now, even though I have the original. >> Can't see them giving Resort the same treatment, as that would be $120 total. Perhaps $5 each would've been a better price point, especially since they didn't seem to give the remake that much love, (noticed lack of AA in screenshots...) but guess we'll see.

They're just ports, not remakes.
There's nothing to remake.
No story, the graphics were designed to be super simple so people wouldn't be put off by it.

They're charging a tenner because they're a business, they believe they can get away with it.
When Nintendo have released these kinds of things they usually have a get them all for the full price less one of the pieces. (streetpass games, nsmb2 dlc)
I'd like that offer because I'm a sucker for completionism. I'd probably never play the baseball one, but knowing it's in the full package but not available to me would kill me.
Tennis and boxing were the ones I'd actually put the disc in my wii every once in a while for back when I had countless other wii games to play.

"Wii Sports Club" is the actual name by the way, not Wii Sports HD. It's either a port or a sequel, however you want to think of it.
The model looks like they won't stop at just the original 5 sports from Wii Sports either, they'd be stupid to stop there.
Treat it like a hub as the name suggests, adding new sports as they feel our money-holding devices are ready for them.

What I wonder is if they're using the upad for anything?
I think a simple videochat service while you're playing online would be kinda fun, put the upad on the stand in front of the tv, it'd be like what nintendo keep telling us they want, like you're both in the same room playing together.

Remember back in 2011 when they showed a Golf game where the Gamepad showed the ball's position? I see the Gamepad being used in ways similar to that.

I would get Bowling and Boxing first, then maybe Baseball and Tennis. Sorry Golf, I just never played you.

Pay $1.99 for 24 hour access to any club sports and test it out when it releases.

I already know what I'm getting, I just don't know that the game that's currently being sold for $20 new is worth $50 just because of smoothed-out visuals and online play.

um..., id just bring them all to HD, make some improvement if possible, like allowing online tournements, double the amount of games, ect.

then advertise the new version with new games/HD/ect. not sell in seperate boundles of 1 minigame for 10 bucks.

Seriously, I consider this game the big change in the WIiU's life cycle.

First, Nintendo is releasing a framework, not a game. You'll download pieces of the same software. That means that today, unlike in the past, they are able to release brand new sports whenever they find it's ready for deployment. And that people that just bought a wiiU can pick their favorite sports for $10 and play online.

Second, Tennis was my favorite sport in Wii Sports and I hated two things:

1- I had to play alone or wait until my friends came over. They solved that with online gameplay.

2- I had much better controls in Wii Sports Resort's table tennis. They solved that giving it motion plus too.

Now the question: why nintendo didn't release every single game in the package?

Simple, as we saw in the old e3 videos, golf and baseball will use the gamepad. Gold will have the ball in the gamepad while baseball will aim with the gamepad. Or at least, these are the options they were researching back then.

Because these games will have big changes, they are holding them for later. They released two popular ones and will release the new golf and baseball whenever they think the controls are good or the audience demands it.

Now about boxing, I'm not really sure. I don't see motion plus helping boxing at all, because the nunchuck doesn't have it. :( But I know it's a popular game too, so a lot of people will buy only to be able to fight other players online.

I guess it depends on what they look like and how they play.  I think there's other titles on eShop that I'd rather get.

In principle I agree with you, but remember, it actually costs money to maintain the servers for any length of time. If you don't want to pay as much for your stuff then would you settle for a subscription model like xbox live and the new psplus? I would rather pay a little more on the front end and never have to pay for the multiplayer again instead of constantly throwing $60 at Nintendo.

Iwata Asks aboot it, eh.

A big tidbit is this:
If you have 1.3GB free space and have your wii u to auto download updates and stuff it'll be downloaded automagically.

And this:
You'll get 24 hours free play of both the existing and new sports every time a new sport is added to the club.

I for one am looking forward to this as I stopped playing Wii Sports / Resort as the people I used to play it with no longer have time to come visit.  While none of them have a Wii U either at least the new online functionality means I can find some other people to compete with.

It IS a bit expensive per-sport, but from what I have read its NOT a simple HD upgrade of Wii Sports.  If I am able to choose just the best of Wii Sports and Resort plus extra sports too, that is pretty awesome.  Its always been kinda annoying that these sports games I only end up liking one or two sports.

Baseball in particular I was disappointed that it wasn't in Resort so I will be getting that as it should be much better with motion plus.

A shame about the online banter function though, it really needs an "adult mode" that bypasses Nintendos vetting process.  I really don't want to have to generate all my taunts an hour before playing AND keep them polite.  As an adult, I should be able to request to only PLAY against adults, and turn off this BS.  Its hard to believe Nintendo are still sticking to this obsession with everything having to be family friendly.
