One year is not quite a "looooong" time. Especially since they're revealing veterans (including unlockable ones) left and right. You'd think they could spare us one newcomer.

They're getting the confirmed veterans out of the way, but it takes time for them to decide which ones are returning. After that, then we'll probably have more newcomers.

I respect your opinion but... I don't know...I'm loving everything about this one.

1. The online play and overall mechanics are bound to be great improvements from Brawl.

2. MegaMan is included. (Well deserved for the NES days and Capcom's lack of support)

3. I love handhelds so I finally get to play Smash on the toilet with 3DS.

4. The inclusion of Wii Fit Trainer and the Villager are hilarious.

5. Sonic's back.

6. The 3DS version focuses on stages based of handheld games (that Spirit Tracks stage for example)

Besides, we haven't seen that much of the game to make that kind of judgment.

We'll see, though.

You know what I'm really concerned about? The game playing almost exactly like Brawl but faster. By that, I mean no L-cancelling and the lack of histun. After playing Melee and Project M, I really can't stand Brawl's gameplay anymore. It has grown stale over the years in my opinion.

For me, two things alone make this worth buying.
1. actual, reliable online
2. Patches. The possibility of a WELL BALANCED SMASH GAME?!!?!?!!!?!11/1!?1/1?11!?1///1???1/!?/!?!?
WORTH. EVERY PENNY.

agreed.

But if the game moves faster, lack of hitstun is essentially made up for.

And from what I saw with that Sonic trailer, it looked like someone managed to convince competitive play isn't the devil's doing. I have some hope.

I've seen nothing to suggest that there's any plan of getting veterans out of the way first. =/

The only logic I see in the character reveals is related to advertising of games releasing (Toon Link being revealed right alongside Wind Waker HD), or for special events (like Luigi being revealed because it's their "Year of Luigi").

I'm just afraid they really don't have many new characters to announce. However, I'm very anxious to see what Pokemon/Pokemon character they announce if this pattern stays true and they want to reveal one alongside the release of X/Y.

Of course they're going to announce characters as their respective games come out. Like you said, it's to advertise the games being released. However, there is still plenty of time for them to announce the entire roster of characters. The date isn't set in stone, the game can be delayed, which is actually what I expect to happen. You know how companies are when it comes the the quality of their system selling franchises.

*sigh* Well, if they delay Mario Kart 8 and SSB4, they're only delaying my purchase of this console.

My point is that I think they could release at least one new character every once in a while. I'm not expecting lots of newcomers to be revealed immediately, but it has been four months since the reveal and we've only gotten veterans.

I mean, with the announcement trailer of Brawl we got FIVE new characters. With SSB4 we got TWO and then a third one very shortly after. It just all feels very underwhelming, and being more underwhelming than Brawl is... well, sad.

with October and Pokemon X and Y coming there might be a newcomer coming. I just have a feeling it will be another pokemon from X and Y maybe but who knows I might be wrong.

I don't disagree that they haven't built up hype for the game. I thought Brawl's dojo was one of the best things ever while Brawl was in development. It got me excited every time a new character was announced. Maybe I'm putting too much hope in the game, but I personally don't feel that it will disappoint me. But I'm in the same boat, wondering which new characters they plan to reveal. Let's hope that the game isn't rushed and a disappointment!

It's hilarious how Saturn runs when he makes these topics because he can't come with a proper rebuttal.
