PlayStation's president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida has ruled out the possibility of offering PS4 owners the option to disable the DualShock 4's light bar. Yoshida addressed fans via Twitter after the exec was quizzed on the likelihood of a "future update" that may offer the ability to turn off the illuminated panel on the upper surface of the controller for games that make no use of it.

"No," replied Yoshida, in response to the question.

Common complaints from players and critics include the light bar reflecting in the TV screen and the controller's relatively short battery life (around 7 hours) compared with the DualShock 3.

When it was later implied such a feature would help extend the controller's battery life, Yoshida added, "The LEDs do not use much battery".

I don't understand why won't they do it...

I though the colour is how you distinguish between the four players? Or does it also have the little player 1-4 leds?

Well I mean, they essentially put a big light on the part of the controller that would be facing directly towards the TV which, if I've done my math right tends to have a reflective surface.

So to answer you're question, they may not be dumb but they're not exactly smart either.

Leds don't use much battery at all. Plus how would you know if the controller was on or not if the light wasn't on?

Mines has never reflected off the tv but probably cause my tv is higher up then where my hands are. It doesn't brother me and some people have even put tape on it to block the light.

But imo there is nothing wrong with it. The Xbox has abog flowing led, ps3 has the player marker, the wii notes had player markers. And that didn't run down the battery.

I think the shorten battery of the ds4 is due to the touch screen and better build. It just used more powerin general.

The light doesn't bother me and play in total darkness most of the time. People just want something to complain about

Wait, people don't like the light? It's my favorite thing about the controller next to the triggers. I just love it for some reason. It doesn't even sound like a big deal. The shorter battery life is probably due to the touchpad (more tech makes for a worse battery life), or they just used a worse battery.

I assume it's the thing on the front what serves as move's balls of light.

Yep it's move. That's it's function. Move didn't sell very well and Sony wanted to force move on PS4 owners but then scrapped that the very minute MS announced the 500$ price tag. Sony honestly dropped the camera that very minute to 1up MS in price. Now it's there to look cool for every PS4 owner who did not buy the camera.

Random side note. PSmove functions opposite how a Wii Remote works basically. Wiimote has the camera and the sensor uses the light.
