Continues? It's been pretty good, better than before in quite a few places. Though this is a odd choice, and a sad one. Google already has their Google Play Music All Acess, and all they really need to do is add the youtube artist and songs into that service. I don't think this effects Vevo, thats seperate I think. Only effects a small amount then, but still a bad idea. I don't think its going to stay for long, or its going to go under changes.
If they updated their paid subscription service for music channels for ones that want to use it (which I think the music labels kinda wanted this). I understand the idea of a paid music video service to skip ads, but to flat out remove videos isn't a smart idea. Shame because they were on a roll with better changes.
Also your a bit wrong about removing independent artist, they like them, like the youtubers that started in their bedroom. Its the independent lables that don't want to agree with Google's terms with this service.

Has this actually been confirmed yet? Saw it on /r/Monstercat and Monstercat said that wether or not independents will actually be deleted isn't publicly known for sure.

To this day I've never understood "x is better" when it comes to promoting music. Don't you people notice that the best promotional strategy would be to use all of the services available? You don't have to limit yourself to a single one.

Not really.
Youtube=billions use it, easy to jump from song to song, can capture attention with thumbnails
Souncloud= a couple million people maybe. Only advantage is easier upload. Tougher copyright watch, often pulling down things weren't even copyright infringement.
Oh and you have to pay if you really want soundcloud to be useful to you.
