Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS launched in Japan on September 13th and has sold through over 1 million copies in just two days! 

The western launch of October 3rd is now just over two weeks away... and don't forget the demo version will be available from Nintendo eShop on September 19th.

1 million copies in Japan in only 2 days is incredible.

I wonder how well this game will do in the West?

Geez, Just Japan too... 1 Million world wide is what you would normally expect, but not 1 million in just japan, I'm really curious on how well it'll sell in the west now.

A good percentage will Double Dip... and more reasons to do so I think once we learn more about features when having both.

Only thing I'm worried about now is the game selling out when it comes over here...

I`m not so sure.

 

If Nintendo did some kind of promotion to those who already own the 3DS version, then that could easily happen. But Japan is a handheld country. Unless there`s something really relevant still hidden, for those who own both versions, i`m not so sure people will double dip that easily.

In the US and Europe, it might happen with more ease, but even then, it still needs to be something big to make people buy the same game again and even convince people to buy a Wii U.

I'm just waiting for the inevitable kids playing Smash Bros  with parental supervision commercial to air in the West.

I wonder if the Wii U version will end up getting more sales, smash bros was basically made for home consoles any ways, but it's still pretty fun on the 3DS

Only five games this year- DKTF, MK8, Bayonetta, Hyrule Warriors....  I guess you can throw in Sonic Boom.  I think the Wii U version will do fine.  I'm waiting on this and passing on the 3ds version for now.

Not in Japan, handheld is king in Japan. Perhaps it will do better on the Wii U in the West.

The October NPD will show if people are willing to wait or not - at least in the US.

I meant up until the time of release of Smash Bros.  Still, not a big number and Smash Bros. is the main title that people talk about besides MK8 and Zelda.

it isn't a doomed failure, it is just it's graphics aren't good.

It won't be enough to make people shut the f up, but I'd imagine we see some pretty solid sales from Nov.-Jan.
