Pretty cool!

They are actually not calling it a ND, but a "live-stream event".

Maybe that means we will be seeing something different. :)

Hmm. I kinda noticed this, but didn't really think anything of it since it used the direct logo and is on the direct page. We'll see what's up on Thursday, I guess.

I didn't realise it when i saw it, but when i read the comments i saw something different. And for a minute this live-stream event made me remember the Digital event and the Treehouse stream that happened the other day.

For some time now that i hope Nintendo will do a new Digital Event to kickoff 2015's games. A Christmas present, if you will! :D

2.5 hours left... Is it typically best to view the Directs through Nintendo's own site? I use to do that, but sometimes I get disconnected.

Edit: 3.5 hours, sorry...

I usually watch from Nintendo's site, get disconnected, and then go to Youtube where it's generally pretty smooth. I'm going straight to Youtube this time.

Edit: Updated the op and title to state the video length and reflect the official name.

I'm not even upset with voice chat not being in matches. The only time I say things during a match is the occasional "Get Rekt!"

I think voice chat would be annoying during matches to be honest, so i agree. Glad the option is there for selection screen and at conclusion.

WOW.. this was an epic direct. 1080 60 fps, draw and build your own stages, so much... and they didnt even mention Amiibo!

I'm greatly pleased overall. Much more hype than I thought it'd be, definitely wasn't expecting Mewtwo. May consider bringing my Wii U to school to play 8-player smash at lunch.

and they didnt even mention Amiibo!

except they did :P

My only complaint, fully functional online tournaments are in a patch.  Until it sounds like just presets =/.

My only complaint, fully functional online tournaments are in a patch.  Until it sounds like just presets =/.

If Nintendo didn't want this out for the holiday, I am sure they would have pushed release date back to have that included from get go... but they need it for the holiday buying season. With so much in this game, it's quite stunning. Hopefully that patch comes before Christmas though!

bump for blind people.

1. More than 40 unique heroes will be available, with additional heroes available to unlock later.

2. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will have the highest resolution we've seen yet in the series.

3. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will support 8 players simultaneously, but only on certain stages, and only in local multiplayer. These massive battles will take place on much larger stages than we've seen in Smash games previously, in order to support all characters simultaneously.

4. These bigger stages include Palutena's Temple, Temple, and Big Battlefield. They will appear less regularly in online multiplayer, where battles will have a smaller player count.

5. Danger Zones can be lethal, and should be avoided. If a player with over 100% touches a danger zone, expect to be instantly KOd.

6. Based on Donkey Kong Country Returns, the Dual-plane Jungle Hijinx stage lets players jump between the foreground and background while battling. Players can use barrels to attack opponents from front to back and vice versa.

mewtwo-720x404.jpg

7. There are more stages in the Wii U version than in the Nintendo 3DS, and they will be structured differently, too. We were treated to a glimpse of several levels, including Wuhu Island, a Mario Circuit Stage, Luigi's Mansion, and Pilot Wings.

8. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will include a Miiverse Stage, where Miiverse posts on specific fighters will be integrated into the battle to cheer those fighters on.

9.  During Palutena's Temple, Palutena, Viridi and other characters from Kid Icarus will converse with Pit.

10. Metal Face will only appear on Gaur Plain at night, and will provide his unique brand of commentary. You can also KO him.

11. Samus Aran's arch-nemesis Ridley will appear in the Pyrosphere stage. If a player attacks him enough, he'll join that player's side. He will also evolve into Mega Ridley if he consumes enough energy; KO him to earn a point (even if he's on your side).

12. Coin battles return, letting players compete for coins that fall from fighters when they're launched off platforms.

13. Stamina battles are also returning. If your HP reaches zero, you're out for the count.

14. Special Smash Mode returns, letting you customize matches in the way that you like.

15. Adjust the frequency of items, or indeed, if certain items will appear at all.

16. My Music will allow you to select how often the music changes.

17. Menu music can also be switched up.

18. Almost all the music from the 3DS version of Smash Bros. will be included in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

19. More composers were involved in creating the Smash soundtrack this time around.

20. Players can 'collect' music by discovering CDs, made available while smashing or after completing challenges.

21. Players must complete various challenges to fill out all of the spaces in the challenge section.

22. Classic Mode has you fighting a series of battles until you reach the final showdown. In the 3DS version, players were allowed to choose the path they took. Here, you'll move forward based on how well you survive. You can change the difficulty in this mode by adjusting the intensity, but the greater the intensity, the greater the reward.

23. If you clear classic mode, you'll be treated with a 'clear movie'.

24. All-Star Mode mirrors the 3DS version, insofar as opponents appear in chronological order. But now, you'll fight the newest fighters first. Two players can play through this mode together.

25. In Event Mode, you take on themed battles, clearing stages to see the path forward.

26. Smash Tour is a brand new mode. A board game, Smash Tour tasks you with spinning a wheel to advance round the map, using items as you wish. Instead of moving pieces around, you'll move your Miis. As you advance round the board, you collect more fighters to use in battle. Land on the same space as another player? Prepare to face off, and if you win, you'll get to swipe a fighter off their roster. Collecting as many fighters as possible is key for the final battle.

27. Target Blast, which gives you a time bomb to launch toward targets, has been tweaked from the 3DS version. This time round, the second bomb you launch will be much bigger, with a more significant explosion.

28. Stadium Mode now supports multiplayer.

battering-720x400.jpg

29. Master Orders and Crazy Orders Modes were also revealed. In Master Orders, challenge yourself to gain higher rewards, however you'll only get one chance. Crazy Orders requires gold or other special passes to pay. The challenge here is to survive battle after battle until you face off Crazy Hand, but if you're knocked out you lose your rewards, so play carefully.

30. Familiar with Master Core in the 3DS version? It's got a new form on Wii U, known as Master Fortress. It'll appear on tougher levels and you'll need to make your way through a dungeon to defeat it.

31. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U supports a bunch of controllers: the GameCube controller, the Classic Wii Controller, the Nunchuck, the Wii Remote Plus, the Wii U GamePad, the Pro Classic Controller, and the 3DS.

32. Play with a GameCube controller via a GameCube Controller adapter which plugs into your Wii U's USB port.

33. You can use your 3DS to control your fighter.

34. You can import your custom fighter from the 3DS version - equipment and all - into Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

35. Tons of trophies!

36. Final Smash trophies will capture your winning blow in trophy form.

37. Trophy boxes will allow you to gaze lovingly upon your rewards.

38. Photograph your trophies in different scenarios in the Photo Studio.

39. Trophy Rush returns, and can now be played with two players.

40. You can explore the backstory of your character in Smash Bros.'Masterpiece Mode, which  allows you to play demo-sized versions of classic Nintendo titles. We caught a glimpse of Super Mario Bros., Kirby's Dream Land, Kid Icarus, Pilot Wings and more.

messages-720x404.jpg

41. Nintendo outlined Amiibo capability in Smash Bros. for Wii U. The first Amiibo line up will feature characters from the Smash Bros. roster, which can join the fray as a 'Figure Player', or 'FP'. As you play with them, they level up and become much smarter and stronger. If you choose to import your Amiibo to someone else's game, your FP will become much tougher, and offer up rewards.

42. Connectivity: Nintendo recommends the Wii LAN Adapter if your wi-fi connection is slow.

43. Automatic notifications will spring up on the main Menu.

44.  You can now pair up with a pal locally to compete "With Anyone" online. In this mode, you pair up with someone on the same Wii U.

45. In the future, yo'll be able to set up your own tournaments, with Nintendo also promising Official Tourneys.

46. Tournaments will support up to 64 players.

47. The GamePad can display alternate info, including how much damage you're taking in battle.

48. You can screengrab with the GamePad, and then draw on your shots using Paint.

49. You can talk with friends via the mic on your GamePad, although this functionality is limited to before and after a match.

50. The Stage Builder allows you to design your own Smash Bros. stages, using fixed background templates and themes. Use the Wii U Gamepad to add the intricacies and slot in your favorite music.

51. At a later date, you'll be able to share your custom stages, photos, and more with other players online.

52. Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings!

53. Mewtwo!
