So there are a number of rumors that have been swirling around and its fun to speculate and get hyped, they're all rumors and all should be taken with a grain of salt but if you look at all the rumors you can begin to piece things together to make an idea for what may be of the NX.

  • The NX is a portable console that works both independently and can be paired to a home console unit to increase its gaming performance
  •

  • The NX portable and NX home console will be sold separately of one another
  •

  • The NX will ship 12-20 million units in its first year
  •

  • NX will run games at 60fps and 900p
  •

  • The NX portable will be able to pair with the PS4, Xbone, and PC's
  •

Independently these rumors seem quite far-fetched, but all combined together they seem more plausible.

I think that they would do it for a number of reasons.

    1. Kimishima is more open minded than Iwata

    2. Assuming that the console is a handheld that pairs to a home unit to increase the gaming performance, the ps4, and xbone are capable of reaching the rumored specs.

    3. Microsoft and Sony have nothing to lose because they aren't in the handheld market and they both know and openly talk about how Nintendo makes the best games and would love to have Nintendo games on their consoles

    4. 12-20 million is incredibly bold, and if this device can't be sold as an add on for Playstations then I don't see anyway that they'll hit that mark and that incredibly bold prediction will miss the mark by a long shot.

If all these rumors are true then I would be happy as a clam.

True, although any NX stuff was already set in place by Iwata. Not that Kimishima couldn't do something to change anything in the plans however most of the NX stuff was far into development.

did the wii u even sell 20 mill?

Topic is about the NX, not Wii U sales numbers.

It won't be just a portable that inexplicably gets a "boost" if it just so happens to connect to a competitors console. That would cause developers to have to develop two games for one system - or one very high end game that utilizes low LOD when it is mobile only. Not worth the investment for those who will only use the mobile unit.

NX is a codename used to describe a NINTENDO family of hardware units that share data with each other with each utilizing a similar architecture for ease of cross hardware game and app development. The mobile system can share the "same" game data with the "beefy" home based unit allowing for high fidelity gaming at home and the "same" game (using shared saved data), but at a lower fidelity while on the road. Actually surprised no one has done this before.

Other Nintendo hardware units as well as some existing and future competing hardware units (phones, tablets, etc.) will join the home console and mobile unit to run Nintendo software to be called cohesively, the NX platform. Still just a codename. Pretty ambitious stuff.

    Interesting concept.

Am I the only one who envisioned the NX as a handheld device that can be connected to a TV using streaming technology? The NX would cost more than an average handheld because of its ability to stream HD gaming with performances similar to last gen consoles to a TV. Its selling point would be that you can play the games wherever you like, also on your TV. I'm struggling to explain this idea, but I hope it's understandable.

    No sig.

Eh, I don't know. I can try to guess the logical evolution of an existing Nintendo product (hence my believe in what the console will be) but I can't even begin to predict when Nintendo goes all left field. All I know is that it'll be a little weird then I'll want it badly.

Blackberry's QNX OS is capable of dynamic network distributed processing, where a device can link to other devices on a network and offload work to them as if they were another video card and such. It would be interesting if the NX can do something similar.

Mario Maker 3D would be damn well close to as good as a new console.

Then they'd make Mario Maker Complete or something which would have 3D and 2D levels along with all the slopes and stuff that they missed out on.

Nintendo should buy QNX from Blackberry so they have a solid operating system for the NX. But that's unlikely to happen since we haven't heard about it
