the name is alittle strange BUT this could definately work. nostalgia would kick in for many people. also how are we supposed to know they aren't just refering to the wii but in a different fashion.

They could blatanly advertise, "Enjoy next generation gaming on Nintendo's brand new home console, Wii Entertainment System" yadda yadda talk about features, yadda yadda Now You're Playing With Power.

Sounds fine to me. Nintendo seems really attached to the Wii name these days, so WES is a good compromise IMO.

Ahh! Why couldn't announce the name on my Birthday, they announced the Wii name on my Birthday.

i thought a rename would mean not the word wii in the name at all, so that people (non gamers) don't get confused.
Wii Entertainment System just sounds like a longer way of saying wii.

I'm kind of hoping this isn't true. The name just doesn't appeal to me. Sure it worked for the NES and SNES, but just saying WES doesn't sound right for some reason.

Yeah. WES sounds like a remake of the Wii. At least Wii U sounds like a sequel.

Ehh, the name doesn't sound as nice to the ears as Wii U does. I've grown to the Wii U name to the point where I actually would prefer it to other alternatives.

"Wii Entertainment System" just doesn't have that 'ring' to it.

What's so awful about the actual name?
I understand the fact that it may confuse casuals but hey, if they advertize it, there would be no problem anymore. They will understand its a brand new console.

It should just be called nintendo! They are a massive brand everybody knows what to expect and if u were with ur friends at home all u have to say is 'wanna play nintendo' . Back to simplicity is all the rage!

If they want to go retro they should just call it the 'Super Wii' ala the Super Nintendo or scrap the wii name altogether and go with the SNES2.... I would crap my pants.

I don't believe the rumor. That's all I can say. It's a horrible name. Nintendo has inovated the gaming industry for years, why would they want to get back ?
