Details have emerged regarding a brand new home console titled Ouya. The system will retail for $99 and will run Google’s popular Android operating system. The console’s games will be entirely free to play, but supposedly they will feature in-game purchases. The console is being designed, worked on, and marketed, by an impressive array of people. One of the other intriguing aspects is the underlying hardware is ‘built to be hacked’—every customer who buys a retail box will get a dev kit in the bargain, claims the developers. We should hear more about this promising project in a few days.

I don't know a 99$ console with free games doesn't seem very promising. If people think the Wii U will be weak if they sell it for $250 then I can't even imagine something for $99. Plus they want you to hack it? This is just getting weird. And I thought Wii U was a bad name.

Hmm...a fourth console in an already crowded console market...no advertising, never heard of it before now and at that price, I'm guessing at that price it requires a rather healthy internet connection for game streaming which most people do not have.

I doubt it'll be going much of anywhere in terms of amazing sales. The only part about it that sounds remotely interesting is that they claim it's basically a dev kit...but to what extent? Will the games I made only be able to be played on this strange console that nobody's ever heard of, or will I be able to possibly get another company such as Nintendo or Sony on board so I can sell the game on other systems?

The mystery abounds, but I highly doubt this will be going anywhere.

It's a dev kit, not a game creator, so you will need to have expertise in the field of developing games to make the games. But even if it does happen, it would make it easier to learn how to make games.

I don't think it will, they normally would want trusted and licensed developers to do that.

I cannot help but think this is just a consolized version of android tablet...

I dunno much about technology, but does android run on other achitecture other than ARMs? if not, then,, yeah.. it is useless..
