Nintendo TVii?
But not that, I mean like, can you put a DVD in the console, or is it just streaming on the TVii?
No. Not DVDs or Blu-Ray discs.
You can on Nintendo TVii. (If you have Netflix, Hulu Plus, or Amazon Instant Video.)
Lame. Why won't they just add DVDs?! xD
Thank you.

Money, that's why. It's also why it wasn't in the Wii. You also probably already have a DVD player and most people do, so it would be a waste of money IMO.Lame. Why won't they just add DVDs?! xD

You can download through online services, but it's unknown whether you can play DVD or Blu-Ray movies. It's unknown what type of lasers exist in the Wii U. When that information comes out, shows that it's compatible, and someone finds a way to homebrew, then it's possible to get the right decryptor to play it, or so that's what I've seen being discussed. Can we watch movies on the Wii U? Like, finally did Nintendo make a console that can play DVD/Blu-Ray?
As for DVDs, you could watch them on the Wii. Of course, you needed to brew for that too.

Besides everyone owning a player by now and the laser issue, it would cost more to sell it as a DVD/Bluray player. Licencing, etc.But not that, I mean like, can you put a DVD in the console, or is it just streaming on the TVii?

Now that you mention it..there never was an "official" statement on this topic was there? I mean obviously it's not Blu-ray or it would of been a big feature they would of talked about...

But people like the convenience of everything being in a single device. It means less things plugged in and less room being used up on both your TV station and wherever you put remotes and stuff.
Things like the iPhone have prospered because the modern audience likes having everything under one hood.

it costs a bit more. its cheap to make it physically work but they would have to pay liscences so better off with only digital. who on earth doesn't have a DVD player these days?

The iPhone doesn't play DVD or Bluray either.
Okay, so its a portable device so perhaps we should compare to other portable devices instead? Well, it doesn't play 3DS or PS Vita games either.
So I disagree, it no more has "everything under one hood" than the Wii U does.

Especially since the system has dvr functionality. If it can download movies, it can play them.
But yeah, no physical media, nintendo skipped ahead of that, while also skipping the licensing fees tthat come with it.
Download your movies to your external hard drive and put them.on the wii u.
