(First off, I have no idea if this is in the right section or not. I just made this account today because I really would like to hear what other people think about this, and couldn't think of another place to post it.)
So I have been hearing a whole lot of good things about Bayonetta recently (for obvious reasons), and went and did a little research and... well... it actually looks really fun. And since I really don't like playing sequels to games without having ever played the originals, I am considering going out and getting it sometime soon.
However, there is a bit of a problem.... I'm a teensy bit prudish... and thus sexual stuff in games sort of bother me. And from what I have seen of the title character at least, this game appears to have a bit of a sexaulized style at first glance. And no I'm not one of those "OH TEH NOES THINK OF TEH CHILLLDRENS???" people who thinks videogames should be nothing but kids games. I honestly don't care what people put in games, so long as it is rated in a way that lets me know exactly what it is I am buying. I just don't like sexual stuff. It makes me feel kind of sick. If I had to explain the feeling in detail, it is sort of like looking over the edge of a really tall building combined with the feeling you get when you have eaten way too much.
So I was just wondering... exactly how sexual is the game? Is it just the main character? Is the game actually as fun as it looks? Fun enough to put up with all the sexual stuff? Like I said, I really want to give this game a shot. But I don't want to waste time and/or money if it indeed turns out being too much for me to handle.
TL;DR: I am a prude, but I want to play Bayonetta. Wat do?
You sound like me in some ways.
Basically you need to ask yourself why you want this game. What are the elements that appeal to you. And then see if there are alternatives.
If there are, go with the alternative.
If there aren't, you have a values based choice to make. Do you compromise your values over entertainment? Or do you do without and sleep better at night? It's your call.
The game doesn't appeal to me personally. But I am glad to see Nintendo purposely showing developers that there is no reason to artificially view Nintendo consoles as "not adult enough" anymore.
Anyone who played the first one would love this on wii u.
There are many who will enjoy this. And it's here for them.
There are also many adults who enjoy a mature story, insane graphics, plot twists and hardcore art direction, but don't care for "Teh naky video game chix" or cursing, etc. those things don't make a game "hardcore or adult" they just make them dirty.
Some like that. Some don't. Hopefully we will see a good amount of choice for the values conscious gamer without being relegated to the kiddy bin.
Mass effect would be just as good without sex or cursing. Relationships can still be explored without having to end up "doing the deed"
The Arkham games are a good example minus a few choice words in the second game.
Take the cursing out of gears of war and it's still the same gritty actioner.
same with skyrim, etc.
It would also be a benefit to have the option to turn off cursing in all games. That means all cursing. Some games now offer the ability to do so, but then they still let some "lighter" curse words through. Hopefully Nintendo is able to communicate this with developers. They are a business, but they are also values oriented.
Also bay 2 will not be an amazing looking game built from the ground up for wii u.
It is being built with their own in house multi platform engine.
