Im talking about the 720 and PS4 controllers.

those wont be out for like 5 or 6 years, PS3 is finally starting to get into stride and it would be suicide for Sony to launch PS4, and Microsoft will focus on Kinect 2... They have the smartglass and Vita crossplay to help counteract the WiiU for the time being, and then in 6ish years when next gen gets released then we will see a New Nintendo console

You really think it will take them 5-6 years to come out with their next consoles? That is madness, their consoles will probably be coming out within the next 2 years. I can't see them waiting anymore time than that. The WiiU will probably hit really hard and if they don't come out with something new in a decent amount of time it can really hurt them.

Sony will not use "gimmicks." They will probably make some high tech dualshock.

Move is a gimmick wonderbook is a gimmick. Your statement is false.

He wasn't saying that Sony doesn't use gimmicks. He was saying that he thinks that the next Sony console may not use gimmicks at all and just be a game console with a controller, that's it.

I dont see how a screen in a controller is a gimmick, its just an updated controller. I think that the wii-mote is a gimmick Kinect is a gimmick and move is a gimmick but something that helps core game-play is not a gimmick. If Sony added to their Dual shock controller, inserting a screen or even hologram mode or something that isn't a gimmick its improving upon your product. Same with Microsofts controller

I see A LOT of fanboyism in this thread. You guys should step back and reconsider how much bias your opinion holds. That aside...

The most I see either of them doing is possible creating an app for a tablet device that'll work with their consoles. I can't see them biting off this idea at all. Kinect has been a forefront for Microsoft and I'm sure they'll continue to build on it. Sony seems to be heading in an all out power machine direction.

Yes, they bit off of Nintendo's success, but did you see how fast the Wii was selling? I don't blame them for doing so.

Yes, I'm aware XBOX has Smartglass and Sony it's Vita. I think that's as far as they will go (or as previously said, some sort of tablet app for inter-connectivity)

Microsoft
I think they will use Kinect 2.0 as a main selling point to the System because its done so well in terms of sales and money. and Then it will probably have a normal controller too, No screen in the controller.

Sony
There ps vita sales are low, so they can't expect people to have one to play the games, and the bluray was not as successful as they hoped, making ps4 games more expensive to manufacture. Therefore i think sony will either go down one of two paths.
1. Sony make a new system which scraps bluray and has optical discs instead, it is not compatible with ps3 games and only focuses on one thing, Graphics. the controller is basic like the ps3 BUT has a small screen to display inventories and menu's.
2. Sony make a system with a controller like the Wii U and it has slightly better graphics that people can boast over.
That went on longer than I thought, but the point is I think that Microsoft will go their own way and the ps4 will copy Nintendo in some way.

The post I was informing you on wasn't even about a controller having a screen on it. All I was saying was that he didn't mean what you thought he meant. Don't come at me with your fight, especially not when it has nothing to do with what I said to you. Take it to someone who cares about what company has what gimmick.

Now to give you what you may or may not want to hear, their all gimmicks who cares, it just turns out that some gimmicks help gaming in a positive way. Touch screens and dual screens were a gimmick when the DS was released and it turned out to be great for gameplay in several ways. 3D is a gimmick yet in some games such as Super Mario 3D Land it allows you to see things that aren't seen in 2D. Motion controls are a gimmick but create unforgettable experiences in various genres by making it feel like you are actually there, especially FPSs since it gives you the best precision next to a mouse. They are all gimmicks each and every one, it just depends on how developers implement these gimmicks to create a better gaming experience.

Back in like 2006 2007 The wii came out and had motion controls and everyone loved it. Now its 2012 and the wii-u is coming out with the tablet controller which takes gaming to a whole new level basically putting an extra screen to make life easier. Who thinks that Xbox and Ps3 will follow suit and make tablet controllers for their next consoles? It makes the most sense. The wii-us controller is by far the best controllers so far in the evolution of video games.

Sony is going to with the.vita and ps3 cross play, remote, and cross controller.

I still like nintendo wii u better but its just how things goe.
The other companies just copy andake it better when they.see if selling.
Like sony move, which is a copy of the wii mote but better.
Either way the wii u is nintendo and i but it for the nintendo only games.

Smartglass has been in MS planning before Wii U was announced so that is in no way copying because I know for a certain and having used it before hand. Though it was more of a control interface, but technically from what I had used, they didn't have game control there but from the E3 press conference they do, so that could have been added on later or was to be initally added.

Just to note, that smartglass will never stream games, it's due to latency, because smart glass works over the internet through xbox live and not a local connection to the xbox.

Sony had similar things with the PSP, so I mean they've done the second screen stuff before but in the GBA to gamecube manner.

At the end of the day it doesn't bother me what they do and if they "copy" I'm not going to be but hurt over it.

I'm a consumer, so basically I win as a consumer because of this competition.

the PlayStation 3 features a slot loading blu-ray disc drive for games, therefore if Sony wants the ps4 to be compatible with ps3 games, they will have to stick to a Blu-ray based disc drive. Which will cost Sony more to manufacture, due to the Blu-ray not being as big as dvd and costing more overall.

So when you said Optical Disk, you means DVD?
That makes more sense, since Blu-Ray is a form of optical media.

Why would they go back to DVD when other companies will be switching to Blu-Ray?
The costs won't be as high, and the read speeds have improved.

yeah sorry, I mean dvd. I'm not sure they will go to dvd as they have been ok with blu-ray so far, but I think Sony were expecting the Blu-ray to be more popular so that the cost of manufacture would be cheaper for them.
As for other companies, I don't know. but if the blu-ray dies out completely and Only Sony use it, the cost will be extremely expensive. at least, that's what i've heard from speculation.

How popular a technology is doesn't really define how cheap it is to manufacture.
Blu-Ray isn't as popular as it could be because Downloads, and Streaming have caught on, with regard to movies and television.

When the PS4 and Nextbox come out, they will both have generic controllers. After a while when the sales are declining Sony will realize they need something new so they will charge $300 for a PS4 Sonypad which will do the exact same things as the Wii U Gamepad except that it has glowing shoulderpads and Sony will make a grand total of 5 games that utilize the new controller. Then near the holidays Microsoft will announce Ultra Smart Glass which is its very own touchscreen, but only a touchscreen. No buttons or sliders or joysticks or anything, just a screen. But after months of Microsoft Fanyboy hype people will realize that you can't play games with just a touchscreen, and also Microsoft will realize that this just like all of their other products, the Ultra Smart Glass is very fragile and will shatter in people's hands causing numerous lawsuits. And while all this is happening, Nintendo will be making tons of money, while Reggie is laughing and saying, "Looks like their body's weren't ready".
