Overrated: To overestimate the merits of; rate too highly.

Based on that definition and the amount of love vs the amount of hate the show receives, yes, I do think it's overrated. It's length has nothing to do with how good or bad the anime is (One Piece does not receive the hate Naruto receives but currently has more manga/episodes). It's story development is horrendous, the pacing is crap and the writing.. is.. so.. lazy.. it's infuriating.

The anime has other merits though (music being one). I loved Naruto when I was younger (don't ask me now.. now I'm so picky, it bothers me). So though it's overrated (in my opinion), it is incredibly enjoyable if you can look past the flaws.

Maybe back then when ninja headbands were actually considered cool, but it certainly can't be overrated now.

The manga is a different story, however, though I think the same can be said of that. It's still a part of the "Big Three" but the enthusiasm for it seems to have certainly leveled out. If people were to tell me it's the bet shonen manga being released weekly today, I'd probably disagree.

Actually, now that I think about it, in comparison to how popular Naruto was back in the day to what it is now, the fanbase has kinda mediated. No longer do you have countless people being Ninja wannabees but rather dedicated fans.

Calling it overated now doesn't seem right to me.

Personally I think Bleach or One Piece is more overrated than Naruto. Naruto (the manga) is actually good, the only problem with the anime is that it has so much filler.

While Naruto remained at the very least mildly interesting, Bleach stopped being fun a long time ago.

I'd say THAT'S the overrated one.

Overrated does not mean popular... at all... has nothing to do with popularity. Though, if we're on that note, Fairy Tail may be the new Naruto, but Naruto is still hella popular

It's a decent anime. It's nowhere near the best, nor is it anywhere near the worst.

I've found better anime to watch nowadays.

People stop dissing my Anime I love DragonBall, Z, GT and Bleach, Death Note is very underated though, I wasn't sure about it but after about 5 episodes I was glued to the screen.

Honestly, the fact that Naruto drags on too much is what I find annoying about it. The pattern is 20 episodes or so, then a fight, then half way through the fight it shows a 2 episode flash back, then the fight ends, then Naruto usually passes out or something, then it shows another 1 or 2 flash back episodes. The story itself is good, but most of the show is just filler.

I enjoyed it all the way up until the Chunin exams. For some reason I completely lost interest after that.

Nah, it's pretty solid, so I can see why it's so popular. I still read it weekly but it doesn't interest me nearly as much as other manga/anime.
