Great, now I'm overwhelmed with emotions I didn't know I had.

I came in here half expecting to roll my eyes at a different dad/daughter story far more superficial and pointless....

But found something totally awesome I strongly agree with instead. Faith restored.

Hah, ESPECIALLY the part about educational games. I HATE most educational games, they suck on every level. They have crap gameplay, they have crap educational benefit compared to the critical thinking, problem solving, and reading comprehension required out of intelligent real games. They are too easy. Its like a slap in the face, an insult to your intelligence.

I had a college reading level by the fourth grade. Something I place soley on my interest in videogames.

Instead of reading sam i am i was playing ultima iii. Final fantasy, dragons quest. Final fantasy 6 and Chrono trigger.

I owe half my vocabulary to wanting to know what was going on in videogames. How many fourth graders could make sense out of context that included phrases like temporal displacement? The ones who played videogames in the 80s/90s could.

And he knows this, and is going the extra mile for his daughter.

Applaud this man.

He hit it right on the nail when he said that educational games are too simplistic. They are made to treat child how adults perceive children (insert Avatar: The Last Airbender rant here). This was quite the beautiful story that I actually ignored until reading the comments here.. Thanks for that ; u ;

A good stepfather right here, all that work just to help his stepdaughter learn. Awesome.

Not at all! It's my absolute favorite show. I referenced it because it's one of the rare shows that doesn't treat children like idiots, much like the approach the step father was taking towards the game.
