I was hugely impressed with this when I played it on the psp from a visual standpoint but never liked the playability. This does the wii u no favours with graphics that look somewhere between ps2 and ps3 level.

Sure doesnt, but saying its halfway between ps2/3 Sure does the game and its actual system a lot of favors.

Its a 100% direct asset port of the 3ds game which was a graphically improved (and content improved, like 2 or 3x more game) port of the wii game.

Surely its more than that. The 3DS renders at a resolution of 400x240 twice and the wii u version is 1080p. The 3DS version is based on a Arm processor. Surely logically it will be based on the wii version due to the similarity of the cpu and closer visual resolution. The reality is it must have taken a fair bit of work to update to wii u and many would have hoped for a bit more ambition. I'm not bothered myself though as not my sort of game. I hope they have more ambition for any Gamecube updates like Windwaker and I hope they don't port the 3DS version of Pilotwings to wii u as I'd like a lot more content in the game than that.

Knowing that Monster Hunter is huge in Japan I would of thought Nintendo would push for a game that showed off the wii u hardware.

The uprendering is too ridiculously obvious to mention. Come on dude.

And no, it is not based on the wii version, its a direct port of the 3ds version, down to the mtframework 2 based new mtframework mobile engine version used for the 3ds port... An engine the original wii is incapable of running. Original wii uses an extremely gutted mtframework 1 engine called mtframework lite.

Mtframework mobile (and the 3ds's pica200 gpu) is capable of hd resolutions, mtframework lite, and hollywood is not.

The game is a direct asset and content port of the 3ds remaster. Including the 3ds exclusive graphical improvements, real time envoronment and self shadowing, normal mapping, and improved lighting, all the new content from monster hunter portable 3rd, but keeping the water environments lost in the psp port, and new 3ds exclusive monsters quests, areas, and weapons....

All the dual screen mechanics and controls of the 3ds game are used on the gamepad.

With 1 addition over the 3ds games, it has online.

The versions are completely binary compatable. 3ds players can sync to a wii u and play multi with wii u players through their 3ds, and even go online through the wii u on their 3ds.

Players can play the same game file from 3ds to wii u and back, with the files being updated via spotpass (or manually)

It is 100% The 3ds version, and 0% the wii version, which makes sense, as the original wii version is a tiny fraction of the game the 3ds remaster is and would take WAY more work than using the 3ds version.
