So today I decide to put in Super Mario Bros. U. I have had no issue playing it the last few days and it has zero scratches or smudges. Oddly (and with this game only) whenever I launch the software the wii u wont go any further and freezes on the launch screen. If I shut down the wii u from my gamepad it will only shut down the pad itself and not the console. Also, if I go to shut it down from the system it does nothing but stay on. Only way to shut it down is to actually unplug the system.
No, I have not shut down the system during any updates incase that's what people are thinking.
This is the deluxe model; has anyone had a similar issue?

I had a similar issue today where my WiiU froze and I hit the shut down button on the gamepad and only the screen shut off, then I went to the console and hit that shut down button and nothing happened. So I unplugged it, then I didn't have the issue again.

I wish I didn't. I tried again and same thing happened :/ I'm gonna try again later and see if it has the same results when changing discs rather than starting the system with that disc. If it happens again I'll have to determine if the disc is unreadable or if something is wrong with the system itself to cause it to freeze up like that. I know the gamepad itself is fine, I can access the TV control while it does that still. But yeah, it sucks haha
Hopefully its like your two guys' and will self-resolve

I just had this happen to me too about a half hour ago. I launched amazon video and it froze while loading the app and ended up having to unplug the Wii U to turn it off. Hopefully it doesn't do this to much I've only had mine couple days.

Happened to me once on YouTube and a couple of times on Nintendo land. Haven't had it happen since the last update though.

This happened to me a couple of times while I was playing Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge. I have a feeling this is just something Nintendo will have to fix with an update.

Must happened to me when sending a message. Unplugged it and it seems ok now.
My PS3 does it all the time and so does my sky box.
