Is the graphic race worse now than in the early/mid 90s?

There doesn't seem to be more graphics whores than there were in previous gens. As Lupaie said it's to be expected of the start of a new gen, it's supposed to mark the release of newer hardware to the previous generation; isn't it reasonable to make comparisons?

Hello! My name is Kao and I am a Kangaroo! If you can see my kicking picture there, you can see me riding one of mine friends! I am quite popular in the area because I saved alot of animals turning in to women accsesories. It was quite painfull on the way, but I liked the experience! I plan on buying a plane with all my money I got and going on an adventure on the isles. My first adventure was when that Mcguffin Hunter cought me, but I escaped, and I don't want to let any animal in pain! What's your story, mate?

Hi, my name is Alph. I live on a planet named Koppai. I am famous for saving my planet from starvation. My best friends are Brittany and Captain Olimar, NOT Captain Charlie. I like surfing the KopNet and playing Kopetball.

I suspect the effects of this are still being felt.

Except bits kinda mattered for a while, now a game will look somewhat realistic on anything, probably.
Probably not worse, just worse people.

I'm happy with the way graphics are looking right now, if they stay the same of get better I don't mind, just as long as they don't get worse.
Complacency is a terrible thing, we should always want strives to be made in game design so as games can continue to get better. More power doesn't just mean better graphics, it means more gameplay opportunities.

Its worse now because there are more nerdy mongs who give 2sh1ts about gfx. They care more about frame rates than how many roots they can get. So many 40 year old virgins.
You do realize that higher frame rates can give you better reaction times and makes the game feel smoother, right? That increases the overall gameplay experience. I'm not a graphics whore and I know this.
I for one care more about AA (Anti-Aliasing) and FPS over hyper-realistic graphics. Battlefield 3 looked gorgeous on consoles, but it was very choppy and had horrible AA.

Had the internet been as common back then it would have probably been similar, though on a smaller scale.

This. today social networking has become so big that EVERY body has to give their 2 cents about this and that, even when it's not necessary. In the end, gamers have taken on the job of mud slinging the other companies. Rarely do you hear one company jab another. It's kind of silly really. Arguing about games, movies, music, etc
as far as the OP, the way of game developing (and really all other forms of entertainment) today is about "how can i grab your attention and commitment". they do this by getting a catchy beat vs meaningful lyrics, make a bunch of CG stunt double filled action vs write a well thought out script, or using cutting edge graphics and cutscenes vs well developed gameplay that runs smoothly and foster creativity.
And most people fall for this. Technology isn't all a blessing i feel, to some degree it's made us all lazy when it comes to being creative and applying ourselves.

Whatever you still get what I mean. People fess up to much about gfx and CPU speeds etc. Some of the best games ever made had terrible gfx.
