You might be surprised. Platinum is best known for once being clover, which sure enough, with games like okami and viewtiful joe, sure dont elicit horror.
But the members also started devil may cry (this is why bayonetta's team named themselves team angel may cry), which actually began life as one of the scrapped re4 games, it was a close working relationship with shinji mikami that created made the franchise possible.
All of Capcoms fled talent are all on good terms with one another. Including members of platinum and a certain Shinji Mikami.

It said 2D handpainted textures? I think WW. Metroid doesn't use handdrawn textures. Metroid is also kinda realistic, so... WW sure is artsy.
I thought that too, but apparently a lot of realistic games the textures are hand painted. Or something along that line.
EDIT: http://www.officialn...new-wii-u-game/
It has also been reported that the studio has picked up new designers and artists from the studios behind the likes of Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank and Darksiders for the project, extending their pool of game development talent.
Looks like it could be a more "realistic" game like Uncharted, or More "cartoony"/"stylised" like Rachet and Clank or Darksiders. I'm honestly not a fan of Nintendo having another cartoony art style, they need to attract those of a more realistic looking art style. But hey as long as it's awsome gameplay I'm there

Do you have an example of handpainted textures on realistic games?
I really do hope they're either making Metroid Prime 4 or rebooting another series. They did a fantastic job at "rebooting" the Metroid and DK series, maybe next-up should be Star Fox (but I'm not a huge SF fan so they would need to come up with something truly brilliant for me to buy it).

I don't but I think 3Dude corrected me in this topic if I remember, he'll explain.
There's a lot of articles before the Wii U was announced about Retro working on what's been their most asked for game. I presume it's another Metroid Prime game.
I'm hoping this could even win over some Halo fans if they throw in online deathmatch modes with customised bounty hunters (male or female). Or even make two games: Star Fox and Metroid and have a crossover when events in each game make in impact on the other. Plus you could get a stealthy FPS shooter for Metroid and a all out dog-fighting third person shooter for StarFox. Which I think would be awesome, plus we get two games coming out instead of 1

All of metroid primes textures of all 3 primes were hand painted in zbrush.
Retros artists are very, very, very, good.
This is digitally hand painted by a former retro artist.

MP3 looked amazing yeah, for a Wii game. Didn't know textures were handpainted.
And I thought this picture was a fake fan mock-up and not something that a Retro dev made? Do you have the original source link?

I'd like either one of two three things
1) A StarFox/Metroid crossover with uber detailed Fantasy visuals (Halo meets Rachet and Clank) with amazing next gen lighting, explosion, reflection, tessellation and particle effects. Two games one storyline from different sides effecting each other. One third person dogfighting mixed with gears of warish third person shooting levels, and a first person stealth shooter that allows you to take on the enemy either stealthy using morph ball and stealth camo. Or go in with high armour and all guns.
2) A photorealistic Metroid/Eternal Darkness survival horror game, let's face it if the enemies in Metroid were real, they'd be terrifying.
3) A complete curveball and we get a new IP that no-one expects in an unexplored genre such as sandbox/open world.

No, the idiot game media said it was a mock up. Its completely unrelated to metroid, aside from being art from a former retro employee who worked on prime.
Its dead space art, titled 'ishamura', and its a completely 2d peice. I have all the links in the threads here that cropped up in the mp4 concept art articles. I really dont feel like digging it all up again.

Ok place your bets:
I'm not willing to put money on this but what I would prefer is this:
They're working on 2 games, a Star Fox reboot and a new IP
They've done the Metroid Trilogy and I think they can leave it alone for a while.
Whatever they do with Star Fox is fine with me, I have faith in them.
The new IP i'd like to be an action/adventure/sandbox game with the occasional puzzle/platform sections.
I'd love a mix of cartoon style graphics and realistic fantasy, as in both styles in the game, not a compromise between the 2.
Extremely dark humour and an excessive amount of realistic gore, violence and horror.
Think Conker's Bad Fur Day + MadWorld + Eternal Darkness.
Throughout the entire game you should not be sure whether to laugh, cry or scream.
The best way to describe whats in my head:
Quentin Tarantino makes a movie with Disney and Pixar characters stuck in room 1408 with Jack Torrance and Regan MacNeil
My actual bet would be on just 1 game and it'll be Star Fox,
most of the original gameplay intact but some unexpected additions.
Not a change as big as Metroid, but not so close to the originals as Donkey Kong.

Hmmm it'd be amazing if the game used different art styles, like how I want Zelda U to be like (explain in a second).
As far as Zelda U it'd be great if all three Universes were imploding on themselves so you got an area which was third cell shaded, third photoreal an third 8-bit pixelated/minecrafty. So your job is to restore all three timelines into one. xD
Anyway Retro doing something where you have three characters from different worlds might be interesting, one is cartoony/classic-nintendo, one is photoreal and serious, and the other is kinda in-between all having to work together

Hopefully new Starfox game.
What ever happened to the Starfox-Metroid universe crossover game?
That was confirmed to be a fake rumor.
---
Thanks for posting, pretty interesting read. So basically, looks like it's going to be either Metroid Prime 4 or StarFox. I do recall reading that Metroid Prime's developers wanted to "leave the trilogy alone". I really would like to see a StarFox game, but an ambitious one, not another remake or what they would call a "standard" StarFox. I'd like something innovative, maybe a kind of hybrid between the classic space shooter and StarFox Adventures...
Still, I hate how this is getting crystal clear to us, and I'm reluctant to admit that we're right... It really might be the new IP.

Hm okay. But since it's from a former Retro dev, it's not really relevant for Nintendo anymore. Still, it really looks amazing.

Yeah, its just about what can be done with hand painted digital art.
This is the kind of talent they are looking to hire with the request about 'hand painted textures'.

I hope so. If only this meets the requirement of the guy's 'artistic route' he wanted to take.. it's good, cause I really love this piece of artwork.
