Seeing as what the leaks have shown us as far as specs go this is extremely likely.

If this was the case than we can all rest assure that the next Playstation won't be a very big leap in terms of power when compared to their past consoles.
SONY would be stupid to think they can be selling this new system at a loss.

Well yeah, the Wii U is overpriced in my opinion. And that's because the UPad is something like $100 of the overall cost, which is insane to dedicate 1/3 of the cost to the controller.

I don't expect the leap to be as big as PS2 to PS3, but it looks like it will be quite impressive nonetheless. Keep in mind that PS3's $599 price tag was the result of the inclusion of a Bluray drive and an estimated 400 million dollars in R&D costs for the Cell processor's development. PS4 will not be burdened with a costly CPU this time around and Bluray drives are much cheaper today. PS4, to my understanding, will be using off-the-shelf components which will allow Sony to deliver a powerful console at a decent price. They won't have to worry about astronomical R&D costs this time around.

400? Its a good start but 349.99 would be a sweet spot no doubt.

Im going to guess that the 400 dollar price point is going to be the bare bones system, minimum storage space, ect. Just a guess though...

If I recall correctly, someone (I really don't remember who) said the successors to the Xbox360 and PS3 will have only one standard SKU at launch (may exclude store specialties).

Then again, that may just be me recalling the Xbox360 and PS3 themselves.

Trophy Cards are classy too! LOLZIGZAGOON

I wonder if people will complain about PS4's pricing like they did the Wii U.

Without a doubt the console is still going to hold good power inside it and with SONY's first party devs they will definitely use it's full potential. Interesting that you pointed out that they will use off-the-shelf parts as that seems quite likely for balancing strong power as well as price.
This will be the first time SONY is not going to use a new disc medium (as that would be suicide, literally) with their succeeding console. As for the CPU, I doubt they would reuse the Cell Processor, seeing as how much negative feedback that received from 3rd party developers; mainly on it's complex architecture.

The leap isn't going to be big, and it isn't going to create the same WOW we got from the PS2 --> PS3 generation. Although I am still baffled by certain people on the internet who think SONY is going for gargantuan specs, creating Avatar-like visuals, all in 4K resolution.
You'd think by now that these people would turn to PC gaming if they wanted pure gaming power.

The leap won't be like PS2->PS3. But there will be some big differences like better lighting, better AA, higher resolutions and a higher polygon count. If Sony aims for pure power this time, they will be comitting corporate suicide.
