#136329 Wii U 'Has A Horrible, Slow CPU' Says Metro Last Light Dev

Posted by alan123 on 22 November 2012 - 01:07 PM

The issue is why are people comparing the Wii U to the PS3/X360, they should be comparing it to the PS4/X720 & the game engines that will run on those.

Nintendo MUST of known of the probably issues that could be caused by this CPU, so the actual question is why did Nintendo design the Wii U like this because for a small extra outlay on a more powerful CPU now it would have paid dividends in the long-term & maybe of extended the Wii U's life by a year or two.

#135618 List of compatible external USB powered Hard Drives

Posted by alan123 on 21 November 2012 - 02:40 PM

Can members please post what external Hard Drive they are using especially is it is USB powered, NOT Hard Drives that have their own power supply.

Wii U users have posted around the internet that they are having problems with the Wii U not providing enough power via the USB ports to power a external Hard Drive, there is a fix by way of using a 'Y' lead, so can members please post their Hard Drive information & if it works with a single USB lead or with a 'Y' lead.

Can we please keep this thread clear & members JUST post the relevant information ?

I have a - Western Digital Elements 320GB Portable USB 2.0 Hard Drive - Black http://goo.gl/givFd i do not yet know if this works but will update when my Wii U arrives on launch (UK)

#135479 Attention UK members with Wii U orders at Game retail stores !

Posted by alan123 on 21 November 2012 - 12:02 PM

I have just been to my local Game store as they had a 'Lock In' event this evening (the shop doors are locked, they let you in & then lock the doors behind you) they had Wii U's you could play on & also had a Nintendo Rep on hand for questions etc.

Firstly i was told by a Game staff member that the latest thing they have been told is that they will be opening at midnight for the launch, this is the majority of stores though & he said he was unsure is every store would be opening at midnight, the news coming though is that most will open but a actual finial decision by the store manager is needed, but mine will be so i was told, there will also be special offers available not sure what they will be though, the best advice is to go in the day before & ask on your local store.

While i was there i was talking to the Nintendo rep about some of my concerns, the power of the CPU, the lack of power for the USB, third party software.

CPU - I was told that she & Nintendo are aware of comments by developers about the power of the CPU & that Nintendo were working with all developers to get the best out of the hardware, she could not give me specific information on the CPU though because she did not have any on it.

USB (powered HD's) - She said she was not aware of this problem.

Software - Nintendo will do everything is can to get the best software onto the Wii U.

Impressions of the Wii U,

The unit itself was pretty quite, i could not hear any fan noise over the sound of the game (Zombi U) music/audio,
The unit is pretty small, it does show up fingerprints though because of the black gloss finish,
The menus seemed to load ok, they didn't seem to take very much longer than the PS3/X360, but they were not as fast, i think this was a updated console but i do not know,
The game-pad is a ok size actually  it didn't feel to big at all, it is pretty light as well, i did shake it about & couldn't really hear a rattle (there was quite a bit of noise in the shop though),
The screen is pretty responsive to touch & movement,
One thing i did not like about the game-pad was that when you hold it vertical for certain games, the ridge underneath is on the left hand side & after a while it will dig into the fingers a bit.

Overall impressions were good, it seems like a solid unit, the game-pad will take getting used to having to look at it & then back to the TV but in time you will just get used to it, the controller does show up fingerprints very easily though, in the end it is the games that will make or break the Wii U, my only concern is the issue with the USB power for my HD.

Games i played, NintendoLand about 3 single player games & one 2 player game, i also played a bit of Zombi U & it looks & plays great, it was limited though because you could not play it when children were in the store as it is a 18 rated game.

You local Game store may have a  'Lock In' event of their own, got told via a text message because i have a Wii U on pre-order, they have also been Tweeting from their local store accounts, they also have notices in the shop window.

I did overhear another customer asking about pre-orders & the shop assistant said that all white versions had sold out but they had some Zombi U packs still available, this was my local store so yours may be different.

If anyone has any questions i will try & answer them.

#132189 How do you tell how many percent the day 1 update is done?

Posted by alan123 on 18 November 2012 - 09:46 AM

I have really fast internet speed so I'm not gonna worry about that update :D

I have 60mb constant but it really depends on what the server load is, if everyone is downloading the update at the same time it could be crawling along for ages.

I have the day off work though :D

#121852 UK Pre Orderer's MIGHT Not Get Their Wii U Day 1

Posted by alan123 on 27 October 2012 - 02:34 AM

Well my local GAME store where i have my ZombiU Wii U pack is opening early in the morning, not sure of the time yet, i will ask in-store the week before release when they will know more.

The thing is Nintendo will have said to retailers we have 100,000 units available for the UK & then asked the retailers how many they each want, if GAME said they want 30,000 & Zavii want 10,000 & Amazon want 25,000 etc then they will get the amount they have ordered, people who have one pre-ordered at a actual psychical shop are more or less (99%) certain to get the console they have ordered, most at risk are the online retailers, it has always been the same, also GAME are the official partner for the launch of the Wii U, so i would say that if you have a order with GAME you should be fine.

All the orders are taken on first come first served & as soon as the 30,000th person orders a Wii U no more orders can be taken (at GAME for example) you have paid a deposit in-store, so each shop will get the number of consoles that have been ordered, also with the negative press some people will have canceled their order but this will not go on the system or another way be made available to be reserved/ordered by someone else.

#116457 Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 cheap for UK Wii U owners

Posted by alan123 on 10 October 2012 - 09:38 AM

I was getting Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on my X360 but after going into Zavii to change my card details, i went to re-order Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 & noticed that it was only £32.95 saving  £17.04 so i switched from the X360 version to the Wii U version :)

#115984 Zombi U bundle DOES NOT come with Nintendo Land (UK bundle)

Posted by alan123 on 08 October 2012 - 02:09 PM

Went in GAME today and they just wouldn't listen to anything I was trying to say, so I'll just have to shell out £40 on launch day for Nintendo Land. Preordered Pikmin 3 whilst I was in there anyway.

I wish i was a fly on the wall.

I cannot see why it is so hard to understand.

You have ordered the Premium Wii U Zombi U bundle !

Do you want the Zombi U game ?

Do you want NintendoLand ?

It makes no difference what you were told in Game when you pre-ordered it, there was a lot of confusion when it was announced.

When you go into Game to pick up your Wii U it will come in a box like this,

Posted Image

It will be a factory sealed box, sealed in China in the Nintendo factory, the contents contained in the box are as follows:

Wii U Console (Black) x1
Internal flash memory 32GB
Wii U GamePad (Black) x1
Wii U GamePad stylus (Black) x1
Wii U GamePad Cradle x1
Wii U GamePad Stand x1
Wii U Console Stand x1
Wii U AC Adapter x1
Wii U GamePad AC Adapter x1
HDMI Cable (1.5m) x1
Sensor bar x1
Nintendo Network Premium
Wii U Pro Controller (Black) x1
Zombi U (Game)

Do you think that Game are going to open up the box & put a copy of NintendoLand inside ?

Do you want to know something ?

I have ordered the Premium Wii U Zombi U bundle from Game & when i placed my order i asked if it came with NintendoLand, & they said yes,

I asked this because people were not to sure online some said it did & others said it did not, i ordered mine the day after the announcement, however what i understand is that it is Nintendos fault because they have left it so late & the announcement show was so confusing.

I think you need to calm down, or change your order & get the normal Premium Wii U bundle & buy a copy of Zombi U on release.
