Onlive - A Cloud Gaming Service

11 November 2013 - 04:40 PM

For those who don't know what Onlive is

Onlive is cloud gaming! It's similar to video streaming services like Netflix and YouTube except that, instead of videos, your games are synchronized, rendered, and stored on remote servers and delivered via the internet all in real time! Games are running on 720p 60fps.

Currently Onlive is fully supported in only 3 countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, and Belgium.

Onlive is going to relaunch soon (should be this fall), so for now there aren't any updates yet.

On what platforms can I use the Onlive app?

PC

MAC

Smartphones/Tablets with Android

Onlive's own Microconsole

Trailer (good overview on how it works)

What do you guys think of the service? Have you guys already tried it?

I'm really a big fan of the tech behind it. People are praising the remote play on the PS4 for example, but with this tech, you could do much more imo! Also you don't need to upgrade your own hardware anymore.

Ofcourse internet will need to improve more to take more advantage of it. But that could be quick (who knows...). :)

http://onlivehq.com/forum/ is also a Onlive fan forum, if you want to learn more about Onlive or something.

3DS add-on for the Wii U?

20 October 2013 - 01:34 PM

Since Best Buy "leaked"(prolly a mistake but still) Brain Age and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon for the Wii U I was asking myself:

Is it possible to just release a 3DS addon for the Wii U lik we had for the Snes/GC back in the days?

Would that even possible since the resolution of the 3DS is really low compared to the Wii U resolution?

Wouldn't that much easier instead op porting every game? Ofcourse it wouldn't look much better without Wii U's effects.

That could be a way to boost Wii U sales and would give the Wii U a bigger library (Wii/3DS/WiiU).

I don't think it would hurt the 3DS, since people will still need a 3DS to play those games on different places/on the road.

What do you guys think?

Is it true I can't share save files between 2 Wii U's?

07 October 2013 - 07:36 AM

Hey,

I've got a question:

My "brother-in-law" has borrowed my Wii U for some days. However, he tried The Wonderful 101 and got completely sold!

Now he's thinking of buying a Wii U for his own, but is it possible to transfer his save file to his Wii U when he got one?

Or does he have to start over from the beginning?

Thanks!

Gamecraft to host special 24hr event with Nintendo at Culturetech Festival

11 September 2013 - 05:02 AM

Strange that there isn't some topic about it yet:

Quote
(Tues, July 30th – Derry-Londonderry) Dublin-based games development event, GameCraft , have announced a special twenty-four hour game jam with Nintendo on September 13th-14th as part of this year’s CultureTECH Festival in Derry-Londonderry.
The event will see over 100 games developers from across the UK and Ireland compete, from 7pm on Friday night to 7pm on Saturday night, to develop new video games centred around a theme to be announced on the day.

The involvement of Nintendo marks a unique opportunity for all participants. Developers have the chance to create a game for the Wii U console, with exclusive access to development hardware and using the new Nintendo Web Framework. Nintendo will provide hands-on technical support and internal game evaluation staff of the company will participate in the jury.

Quote
Nintendo Web Framework makes Wii U more accessible for developers, as you can create Wii U software only using HTML5 and JavaScript. I believe it is a rather interesting environment for a 24-hour game jam”, says Martin Buchholz, Manager of Nintendo’s Developer Relations & Support in Europe. Martin adds “CultureTECH is going to be an amazing festival and we are proud to take part in this special event.

The event builds on the recent success of GameCraft, which aims to help “game-makers to meet, share ideas, have fun, compete for prizes and most importantly make games!” Since launching in Dublin in 2012, with over 120 attendees producing more than 35 games, GameCraft has hosted events across Ireland with new events now planned for New York and London.

CultureTECH Festival Director, Mark Nagurski added:

Quote
“Not only are we thrilled to welcome GameCraft to Derry for the first time, but having Nintendo involved is a real coup for the festival. We have a really strong games programme at this year’s CultureTECH with workshops, tournaments and free-to-play arcades throughout the city but this announcement really puts it over the top. We also need to say a special thank you to Invest Northern Ireland for making the initial introductions which have led directly to this collaboration.”

Anyone interested in taking part in GameCraft at CultureTECH can register online athttp://globalgamecra...erry-gamecraft/. Full details of the CultureTECH programme are available online now at http://www.culturetech.co/prog.

Why is Sony getting so much indie love...

20 August 2013 - 02:20 PM

While Nintendo is working very hard to get indie games on the Wii U?

Even the PSVita (who sold poor) is getting so much popular indie love: Fez, Minecraft, The Binding of Isaac, ...

It just seems they don't like Nintendo or something... :(
