#280754 If/When a Wii U breaks...

Posted by Merky Water on 10 April 2014 - 08:33 AM

I don't see horror stories, for some reason people just don't have the patience to contact Nintendo and try and get things straightened out.

True fact.  I called Nintendo about another issue(seeing if they planned to bump up the friendslist capacity since I'm full and MK8 hasn't even dropped) and while on the phone with them, asked them about this.  They said it's no big deal.  Send them the busted console and they'll pop your purchases over to a new console.  Of course, I'd say call them first if this happens to see if they haven't put out something that can be done on the user end by then.

I didn't ask them about game saves but, even if those don't get transferred over, at least ya keep your purchases.  This was a big deal to me as I kept buying disc copies in fear and kinda letting my Digital Deluxe Promotion go to waste prior to this conversation.

#279200 Zap U. My take on the Wii U Zapper.

While i like it, I personally prefer the hands being separate.  This allows for a right hand gesture and a left hand gesture and, potentially down the road, even more gestures with pushing the gyro to different directions.  Currently, I prefer shooters that allow me to assign what I like. ...like shaking wiimote to reload and slashing nunchuk for melee.  That said, I still might buy this.

Where ya could hook me for sure is getting the gamepad comfortably into a wheel for the racers!

#278979 Watch dogs wii u delayed

Really wanted this game on Wiiu, but looks like its PS4 now.

Same here, I was just about set to get it on wii u after hearing all the praise that Ubisoft will use the gamepad in a innovative way for the game. But unfortunately, with this delay, I'm going with the ps4 version :(

Still baffled why ya'd settle.  Why not wait and get what ya want?

#274394 Wii U's Memory Bandwidth, GPU More Powerful Than We Thought?

While I believe the Wii U can handle more than Nintendo's being given credit for, this article really does say nothing but hypotheticals.  Of course, since plenty of propaganda with similar basis is readily distributed on the internet, just with anti-Wii U sentiments instead, I could see how it would seem to some a good thing to now see some pro-Wii U.  But I personally would rather no conjecture... either way.  I'd much rather let the systems stand as they are and leave the proof in the pudding.  If gamers enjoy it, then they play it.  But the war of words and continued console war trying to disuade gamers from trying their competition is a sad thing.  When that war continues at the gamer level, an even sadder state.  But it's in the console developers best interest to perpetuate this.  As gamers, we should be enjoying the various products.  If we do, there should be room for any good console or game that rolls around.

#274151 Was Nintendo wrong... what is the consumer saying?

I honestly hope they don't slide away from the gamepad or motionplus controllers.  Nintendo has always stood apart as trying for new innovation while comparisons are so often made between xbox and playstation because they're so similar.  I'd say don't confuse a gimmick with innovation though.  That second screen has a lot of potential and i think even sony's seeing that hence why they're dabbling into making the vita be your gamepad.  Suprisingly, sony usually drills negatively at these innovations.  I'm sure everyone remembers the commercials bashing motion controls only to make the Move a little while later.  Since they're already in production trying to make the vita and ps4 work hand in hand, attacking the gamepad would go poorly for them and they clearly don't need to go negative ads for numbers.  What will be interesting is if they stick with the new control options this time.  ...or let it die like the pretty much did the Move.

I know i've read some rhetoric on why the gamepad should have been an optional additional purchase rather than inbox.  But i think if it wasn't incorportated into the purchase, developers wouldn't touch it at all.  ...kinda like they did with the Move and Kinect since those were after thoughts.  The developers don't need to go crazy with the gamepad or vita and clearly, some don't.  But I think those that do are going to be remembered.  Dual analog's clearly sticking around... similar to the D-pad.  But if gaming doesn't continue to innovate, that's when the market goes stale.  Is nintendo moving too fast on the innovation front?  Perhaps.  But i wouldn't be able to stand if 3rd party set the pace.  Working with new controllers takes money.  A lot more than making cutscenes look prettier with HD graphics.  But pushing the envelope keeps the ball moving.  Else we'd all be back on   (insert your favorite past console here) !

Nice!  already more effort than i've seen from the Nintendo team.  Great choice of tunes although not sure Nintendo would pony up for Queen rights.  One critique i would say would be possibly have all of the titles slide in or bolt toward you with a a nice transisition as you did for most of the 3rd parties near the end.  Changing the white lettering on the red bar during the 1st party showcase just didn't pop enough to let the viewer know you've cut to another title.  Even if it just swapped which side of the screen the red arrow came from, it would probably distiguish the fact you're showing yet another game... which i'd imagine is a main priority is to quell the misconception that the system has very few games... and of course bring to attention that the console exists to the rest of the world which.... well, i'm not sure how to go about that better.  Nintendo shot itself in the foot with that "Wii" U thing... still hoping the just drop it to the "U" in future ad campaigns to end the confusion.   Kinda like the NES... rare to find someone use the full "Nintendo Entertainment System" (or, likewise, call the Famicom by it's original name of the Family Computer).

#265054 I think Wii U did the impossible!

I think, depite best efforts by some reviewers, the Wii U is here to stay.  Plenty of people are afraid of launch window bugs or poor reviews and steer clear for a year or so.  Now, people either feel bugs are worked out or have tried their buddy's U and see the reviews are off base.  They're joining the ranks of console owners and the system can finally stand on it's own for what it is.

It hardly seems fair to judge all of Qubec by the actions of one of it's residents.  I'd imagine elsewhere in the country and surely the world there's been similar tales.
